Set in what appears to be a dystopian, and possibly post-apocalyptic America, Shadow Master opens with a Swat team walking in on a martial arts battle in what looks like a hospital turned into a slaughterhouse complete with hooks and chains.
They arrest the only person still alive. Back at the station Detective Russells begins interrogating the suspect. He claims to be John Doe, although we’ll later find out his mane is actually An Voaen, the hospital’s night watchman. A job that paid him with food and a place to live.
The hospital is actually abandoned, and judging by its occupants such as the Harley Quinn wannabe Dewitt and her mother might have been an asylum. The group’s leader Boon-Nam tells him that there have been issues with children disappearing in the night,...

Office equipment turns deadly after a bomb-maker targets a reformed hacker at work. Can Mel Gibson and a D-list cast save him from server-room peril?
Kevin Dillon heads a mostly D-, E- and F-list cast in this schlocky but not entirely unwatchable thriller; he plays Orlando Friar, a one-time hacker who’s gone straight and works for a computer helpline. One sunny day in southern California, Orlando makes excuses as to why he can’t stay at home and attend the birthday party of his teenage daughter Zoey (Anna Harr), citing work demands. His wife Kim (Lydia Hull) is so fed up with his perpetual absence, she hands him divorce papers. But off to work he goes nevertheless, where he is soon punished for his lack of paternal commitment when he discovers that an unseen bomb-maker, at first just a voice on the phone, has set a trap for him at work.

Hot Seat, is the new thriller from director James Cullen Bressack, working from a script by Collin Watts and Leon Langford. And, at least on the surface, it seems to have taken its cue from his other recent thriller, Fortress, one of whose plot threads involved a former hacker forced to break into a financial company’s systems.
Here, that goes from subplot to the main storyline as reformed hacker Orlando Friar’s day goes from bad to worse. After he’s called in on his day off, which also happens to be his daughter Zoey’s birthday his wife Kim serves him with divorce papers. But the worst is yet to come. Every month there always seems to be a new horror anthology released and Tales From the Other Side is one of the latest. A very low budget one but that is something I’m used to and anthology horror is something I generally enjoy so I was happy to give this a go.
Featuring one wraparound segment and six ‘tales’ there’s plenty to see here. So let’s get straight into the first proper tale. ‘Petrified Boy’ at least starts off with some kind of creepy story about a touring circus and its main attraction – the petrified boy. The problem is the...

For actor Zack Ward, his very first appearance on screen turned out to be the one he will forever be remembered for. In 1983, a young Ward played the yellow-eyed bully Scut Farkus in Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story, and thanks in no small part to TBS’ annual all-day marathon of the holiday classic, Ward’s deliciously villainous performance in the film is one of the most iconic in screen history. Not bad for a first time actor, eh? Unfortunately, Ward’s directorial debut isn’t quite as memorable.

“Don’t follow too close.”
When his wife and daughter fall victim to a Jigsaw-like serial killer by the name of The Night Stalker, Henry (Stephen Manley) has only one thing on his mind – to return to the scene of the crime and begin plotting his revenge. Yeah, that’s not true at all. In fact, you couldn’t be further from the truth! Upon finding that the killer is in fact dead, Henry actually wants to return to the Night Stalker’s torture mansion (that sounds quite pathetic doesn’t it? I could have worded it much better, but oh well!) to see if he can locate and make contact with the spirits of his wife and daughter. Seems a little farfetched?...

If there’s one director whose films I will watch without hesitation or question, it’s Pearry Teo. In fact his filmic career is actually one that is key to mine. His second film, the 2009 fear flick Necromentia (which I still think out-Hellraiser’d Hellraiser itself), was one of the first films I ever reviewed professionally; and I’ve reviewed each and every one of his films since. Why? Because of the impact his twisted vision in Necromentia had on me and because no matter the story, no matter the budget, Teo always finds something interesting, admittedly often dark, to do with the subject matter.

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is part horror, part dark fantasy, part supernatural love story, and part haunted house movie. A film that tries to fit so much into a brisk eighty-nine minutes could easily wind up being a mess, but Sleeping Beauty combines its various genres and subgenres into something that feels like a coherent whole. The Curse of Sleeping Beauty might not fit comfortably into any one genre, but I say if a film works, it works, and The Curse of Sleeping beauty works.
