Steve Goodman, Better known as electronic music producer Kode9, spent the early 2000s writing about the UK’s garage scene on his webzine, Hyperdub. Goodman, who holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of Warwick, launched the now-defunct Hyperdub publication in 1999 to document the happenings of the scene that blended dark garage, a more experimental subgenre of UK garage which moved away from its pop R&b influence, and grime, its gritty emcee-centric successor that also draws from jungle, dancehall, and hip-hop.

There are several moments on Four Tet’s new album Three that sound like Aphex Twin B-Sides, which is less a sign of a lack of imagination but instead, proof of how widespread a particular take on ambient music has become. Maybe chalk it up to YouTube’s recommendation algorithm, the platform is awash in hour-long mixes of Aphex Twin tracks on loop (sometimes accompanied by a video of a serene-looking monkey relaxing in a lake), designed to play while you focus on work or school, or whatever. Kaskade is ready to enter his Taylor Swift era.
The eight-time Grammy-nominated DJ-producer has remixed songs by Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and halftime show superstar Usher. He hasn’t worked his magic on a Swift track, but he’s ready for it.
Looking into the camera, he says: “Taylor, what’s up? Taylor, you don’t want that Kaskade treatment?”
“I got to call my girls over,” he added when asked which Swift song he’d like to remix. “I got three kids, all girls. Taylor Swift all day at my house.”
Swift, who is dating Travis Kelce, was seen at the game with Blake Lively and Ice Spice. Kaskade, who has collaborated with Meghan Trainor, Skrillex and deadmau5, quickly filled in for Tiesto as the Super Bowl’s first in-game DJ on Sunday. He said he was “pretty stunned” when he got the call to perform.

Taylor Swift receives the award for Best Pop Vocal Album at The 66th Annual Grammy Awards
Women absolutely dominated the 2024 Grammys, from winning the top awards to delivering the most memorial performances of the February 4th broadcast. Miley Cyrus took home her first-ever Grammy wins, while Taylor Swift made Grammy Awards history for the most Album of the Year wins ever.
Swift also made Swifties worldwide happy by announcing she’ll release her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19, 2024.
Tracy Chapman brought down the house with a stunning performance of “Fast Cars” alongside Luke Combs. Joni Mitchell earned a rousing ovation for her first performance on the Grammy stage, singing “Both Sides Now” while backed by Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, Sistastrings, Lucius, Jacob Collier, and Blake Mills. And Celine Dion, who is suffering from stiff person syndrome, put in a surprise appearance as presenter of the Album of the Year award.

Taylor Swift is the odds-on favorite to make history with an Album of the Year victory for “Midnights.” It would be her fourth win in the category following victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” That would set a new record for the most Album of the Year wins for any recording artist ever, breaking Swift’s tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. Kid Cudi has teamed up with Travis Scott and Pharrell Williams for his new song, “At the Party,” off his upcoming album, Insano.
Along with delivering the song’s hook, Pharrell produced “At the Party,” mixing speaker-rattling kick drums, bass thumps, and an array of heady synths that flit between psychedelic and sinister. Since it debuted on Netflix in early October, the Benicio Del Toro-starring "Reptile" has consistently been one of the top 10 most-watched titles on the streaming platform. The film is the feature debut of director Grant Singer, who cut his teeth directing music videos for artists like The Weeknd, Sky Ferreira, Lorde, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Ariel Pink, and Skrillex. "I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don't know where it's leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you," Singer said in the film's press release. "And people who like things that are intense and visceral and suspenseful, I think they'll find something exciting in this." Here's the film's official synopsis:

[This story contains spoilers for Reptile.]
In the two weeks since its release, Grant Singer’s Reptile has remained atop Netflix’s own film charts with 19.9 million views and counting. The Benicio Del Toro-led crime thriller is Singer’s feature directorial debut after nearly a decade of making inventive music videos for the likes of The Weeknd, Lorde and Ariana Grande. The film centers around Del Toro’s Detective Tom Nichols, as he investigates the murder of a real estate agent (Matilda Lutz) and uncovers a tangled web of corruption within his new community in Maine.
At a time when crime dramas and murder mysteries are still immensely popular, especially on Netflix, Singer, along with his co-writers Benjamin Brewer and Del Toro himself, knew that they had to work overtime to keep viewers on their toes.

Alicia Vikander Says Her Role in Sci-Fi Thriller ‘The Assessment’ Is ‘Pretty Wild,’ and ‘Scares’ Her
Alicia Vikander, the Swedish actor who won an Oscar for her role in “The Danish Girl” in 2015, has taken on a remarkable range of characters in recent years – but is still stretching her boundaries, she says.
Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where she presented the historical drama “Firebrand” on opening night, Vikander says she’s now prepping for films that offer distinctly different challenges than her turn as Catherine Parr, the only one of Henry VIII’s six wives to outlive the marriage.
One character she admits she’s still deciphering is the central figure in the upcoming sci-fi feature “The Assessment,” a feature project with Paris-based writer/director Fleur Fortuné.
“I got the script sent to me,” says Vikander, adding that something about the story instantly intrigued her. Details are still under wraps, she says, but the film is set in a world of the near future...

What must the inside of Tainy’s head be like?
In there, past the archive of memories — all the awards and reggaeton hits since he began producing as a precocious 14-year-old kid in Puerto Rico — it’s easy to picture an infinite library of unlikely influences: a tangle of obscure anime films, cyborg fantasies, old-school hip hop beats, fine arts books, random nights in Tokyo. The Recording Academy has added three new categories to the Grammy Awards, including best African music performance, best pop dance recording and best alternative jazz album.
The changes were voted on and passed at the academy’s Board of Trustees meeting last month. The 66th Grammys, which now has 94 categories, will air live in early 2024.
The addition of the best African music performance category reflects how African acts such as Burna Boy, Wizkid and Tems — along with the rise of the Afrobeats genre — have become global chart-topping stars and streaming juggernauts. The new category “recognizes recordings that utilize unique local expressions from across the African continent,” including subgenres like Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, Afro pop, Bongo Flava, Ethio jazz, Kizomba, High Life, Fuji, Ndombolo, Mapouka, Ghanaian drill, Afro-house and South African hip-hop.
