Sugar Ending Explained: Does Sugar Go Back to His Home Planet? ( Photo Credit – Apple TV )
Apple TV’s sci-fi detective thriller Sugar wrapped up its first season with another twist, which was difficult to anticipate. However, nothing can match the major twist of the show that revealed John Sugar to be an alien, residing on earth with other fellow aliens, to study the behavior of human beings. Despite not being as shocking as this twist, the ending is pretty tight and leaves room for unanswered questions that hint at the possibility of a second season.
What Happens in Sugar?
Sugar follows the journey of its main character, John Sugar, a Pi who is also obsessed with movies. He kind of thinks of himself as a movie star and several shots of the show cut to different hollywood noir and detective movies. We learn that Sugar finds people who cannot or...

A former rock star turned junkie, who eventually became an activist for women’s safety in abusive relationships, Melanie Mackintosh in Apple TV’s Sugar is one of its most significant characters. As a fan of The Office, seeing the adorable Holly (Amy Ryan) play a layered and solid role is always delightful. Melanie is the ex-wife of Bernie Siegel and the last person who saw Olivia before she disappeared from the face of the earth.
Melanie is a woman who knew success from a young age and then fell off the tracks as she grew older. One can imagine that marrying Bernie Siegel definitely put some of her prime years to waste. Now Melanie finds herself an alcoholic who starts drooling when she sees Sugar for the first time. After a night of constant drinking, Melanie invites Sugar back to her house. She thought the dynamic would be different,...

What happens when Sugar meets Dr. Vickers?
The mysterious Dr. Vickers Ruby is working under seems like a gentleman who just checks on Sugar’s health. His personality is oddly similar to that of Gus Fring from Breaking Bad, as he, too, looked harmless at the outset. Vickers and Sugar talk about a movie where a patient has teeth inside his stomach, and the teeth amputate a doctor’s arm when he cuts it open. Vickers notices Sugar’s trembling hands...

There’s blood in the water, and the sharks are circling around. The third episode of Apple TV’s Sugar reveals a lot of secrets. John Sugar is closing in on the Siegel family secrets, and vice versa. If the first two episodes told you anything about Sugar, it’s that he’s a man of persistence. He’s set on a case that is far more twisted than it seems, and the men in Teresa’s house only complicate things further.

Colin Farrell in ‘Sugar’ episode 2 (Photo Credit: Apple TV+)
As Apple TV+’s Sugar episode two opens, John Sugar (Colin Farrell) admits his investigation into Olivia Siegel’s disappearance got off to a rocky start. John is taking a swim in the hotel’s pool while collecting his thoughts and working through what he’s learned about Olivia. He stares at the moon (something we’ve noticed he frequently does) while confessing he knows he’s good at what he does.
A short while later, he meets with Bernie Siegel (Dennis Boutsikaris), Olivia’s dad. Bernie’s a movie producer, just like his father (John’s current employer), but definitely not in his father’s class. Bernie cuts to the chase and reveals he’s sure Olivia will return on her own at some point, ready for rehab again. Bernie also reveals he’s aware John met with Melanie Matthews,...

Get ready for a gritty noir mystery thriller series set in Los Angeles created by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) and directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God). Apple TV+’s latest series titled Sugar is an original story and it follows the titular character Private Detective John Sugar, who goes to LA to find a missing girl named Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As he digs deeper into the case he finds some secrets the Siegel family would have liked to keep buried.
While the critical reception of Sugar is not as good as I would have hoped, it is still an impressive series and worth your time. So, if you want to lose yourself in the dirty underbelly of LA with Pi John Sugar, here are the dates for the series’ upcoming episodes.

A missing rich girl, an unidentified dead body, hidden secrets, and a charming detective in the middle of it. The second episode of Sugar introduces the audience to all the members of the Siegel family. If the suited-up Colin Farrell wasn’t hot enough already, this episode begins with a shirtless Farrell taking a swim in his full glory. The secrets of the family are an obstacle to Sugar if he’s to find Olivia, and Jonathan Siegel is probably the only one who wants her back.

Review: Detective stories and noir films are iconic genres in film and literature. Who doesn’t love a grizzled private eye who saves the girl and beds the femme fatale? From The Maltese Falcon to Chinatown, detectives have a long and storied history on screen. With the new series Sugar, Colin Farrell adds another great character to the list. A suave, calm, and skilled investigator, John Sugar is an idealized hero straight off the silver screen. And, like any number of great cinematic detectives, he has a weakness. Having seen the full eight episodes of Sugar, audiences will love or hate John Sugar’s weakness,...
