'Salem's Lot' will be released on the streaming service Max rather than being launched in cinemas. The studio behind the horror picture, New Line, has confirmed that the flick will appear on the streamer at some point in 2024.The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1975 novel of the same name and has an ensemble cast that features Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh and Alfre Woodward. The movie had initially been slated for release in 2022 before being pushed back to spring 2023 as a result of Covid-related delays. It was then taken off the release schedule altogether by Warner Bros. - to the bemusement of King himself.Taking to social media platform X (previously Twitter), the author wrote: "Between you and me, Twitter, I've seen the new 'Salem's Lot' and it's quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. "Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it's embarrassing,...

The adaptation of Stephen King’s vampire novel Salem’s Lot won’t be deleted as many had feared; but it won’t see the inside of a cinema either.
Around a month ago, we wrote about the decision Warner Bros was facing regarding the future of Salem’s Lot, the adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975’s vampire novel. Filming completed on Salem’s Lot all the way back in November of 2021, but the film has been in limbo ever since. In the interim, Warner Bros top brass have seemingly gone back and forth regarding the film’s fate as the studio has repeatedly shifted its strategy towards theatrical releases.
Originally, the film was set for a streaming-only release on the studio’s Max platform. Then, as Warner Bros moved away from those plans and began to focus on projects that could be released theatrically, it also began to delete films so that...

The new adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot is no longer getting a theatrical release. Originally scheduled to debut in theaters way back in September 2022, New Line has now confirmed it will stream on Max instead.
The announcement didn’t include a premiere date but did state that it’s expected to arrive on streaming in 2024.
“Author Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book only to discover his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire,” reads New Line’s synopsis. The cast is led by Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears and includes Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, and Bill Camp as Matthew Burke.
Spencer Treat Clark plays Mike Ryerson, Pilou Asbæk is Straker, and John Benjamin Hickey is Father Callahan.

Stephen King fans, rejoice! The fate of the film adaptation of "Salem's Lot" has been up in the air over the past couple years, despite revealing footage from the project at CinemaCon back in 2022. Not even Stephen King himself knew what was going on with the film's potential release, though he wasn't shy about singing the praises of the movie from filmmaker Gary Dauberman, the director of "Annabelle Comes Home" and co-writer of "It" and sole writer of "It: Chapter Two." Thankfully, fans no longer have to ask when they'll be able to see the new "Salem's Lot" movie, because we finally have an idea of when it will be released. But it won't be in theaters.
Max has officially announced that "Salem's Lot" will debut on the streaming service sometime in 2024. They didn't give a specific release date or even a season of the release, but at least the...

“Salem’s Lot” Will Skip Theaters to Stream Exclusively
The long-in-development film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” is being made, after all, but will no longer premiere in theaters, opting for a Max-exclusive streaming premiere this year with an official date to be announced later.
Originally intended for a September 2022 theatrical release, New Line Cinema pushed the film to 2023 citing the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown for delays before removing it from its release calendar entirely. King’s 1975 novel was first adapted for the screen with CBS’s 1979 miniseries starring David Soul.
“Salem’s Lot” is written and directed by Gary Dauberman (“Annabelle”). The new version will see Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) return to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot looking to come up with an idea for a new novel but discovers his hometown’s residents are becoming vampires.
The ensemble also features Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark,...

Well, Mr. King, here’s your answer: the newest version of horror maestro Stephen King’s novel “Salem’s Lot” is coming out this year. Sometime. On streaming.
After initially being expected to hit theaters, New Line’s film adaptation of King’s 1975 bestselling novel “Salem’s Lot” will debut on Max in 2024, the streamer announced today. As for when in 2024, we still don’t know, and as for what this thing will even look like, still no answer there, as today’s announcement came without any sort of handy-dandy still to round out the news.
The film was first announced in 2019 and was shot way back in 2021. Last month, King himself took to Twitter (X?) to publicly wonder where the heck the film was. “Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new ‘Salem’s Lot’ and it’s quite good,” King wrote on social media. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build,...

Some good news, ladies and gents – it appears as though the long-shelved big-screen adaption of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here) won’t be deleted after all. Variety just broke the news that New Line and Warner Bros will put the movie out on its Max streaming service this year. While this was widely anticipated, in recent months, the buzz had turned pretty dark, with it heavily rumored that WB would be taking a loss on the film and deleting it, which is what they did with Batgirl. The Looney Tunes/live-action mash-up Coyote vs Acme seems to be going that way as well (unless John Cena’s comic performance at the Oscar swayed anyone).
This is the third adaptation of Salem’s Lot. The previous two were both mini-series, which aired in 1979 and 2004. This new take on the concept is said to be set...

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we’ve learned from The Hollywood Reporter this afternoon that the film will Not be releasing in theaters at all.
As we suspected, Salem’s Lot will be a straight-to-streaming release for the Max streaming service. THR notes, “No date was given, but sources believe a fourth quarter release is likely.”
Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, before getting ejected from the theatrical slate.
For what it’s worth, Stephen King has recently tweeted praise for the film.
King wrote earlier this year, “I’ve seen the new Salem’S Lot and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything.

The fate of New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot has been sealed.
New Line parent company Warner Bros. Discovery will debut the vampire thriller on the streaming service Max later this year, the company said Tuesday.
No date was given, but sources believe a fourth quarter release is likely.
Veteran horror scribe Gary Dauberman, known for writing the It and Annabelle films and for helming Annabelle Comes Home, wrote and directed the movie whose distribution plans have been in flux since WarnerMedia, which owned New Line and Warner Bros., merged with Discovery Inc. in spring of 2022. The movie was originally due to hit theaters in September 2022; then after the merger, it was moved to April 2023. Later, it was taken off the theatrical release schedule completely.

Max has made it official that New Line’s feature take of Stephen King’s 1975 bestselling novel Salem’s Lot isn’t going in theaters, but on the Ott service this year. No exact date has been announced.
The buzz of this was heavily out there. It’s sort of an upset to Warner Bros Discovery: CEO David Zaslav has emphasized how he’s about theatrical, and how he doesn’t believe in straight-to-streaming movies. Salem’s Lot was expected to be another big play for New Line in the revived Stephen King big screen universe following the massive $1.1 billion global grossing success of the It franchise. In fact, the co-writer of that movie, Gary Dauberman, directed, adapted and executive produced Salem’s Lot. The movie originally occupied the post Labor Day space of 2022, a frame made rich by Warner Bros with Stephen King and Conjuring horror fare, until they pulled the...

For a guy who writes about awful stuff happening to people, Stephen King sure likes liking things. Just think about how many times he’s used his position to praise other creatives and projects. “I have seen the future of horror and his name is Clive Barker,” declared his blurb for the American release of Books of Blood. “Tight, terrific, and very, very scary. Reminded me a bit of Duel,” he said of The Fall on Twitter in 2022. “Wish I’d written it.” Heck, his horror history book Danse Macabre ends with an appendix recommending over 100 books and nearly 100 movies.
But when the 76-year-old writer praises the upcoming film adaptation of his seminal novel Salem’s Lot , King’s word carries a bit more weight. King published Salem’s Lot, about a man who learns that his old hometown has become infested with vampires, in 1975 and is still regarded decades later as...

Stephen King is calling out Warner Bros. for holding off on releasing Salem’s Lot, which had been set to release in 2023.
The horror book author took to social media to share his thoughts and update his followers that he had seen the film and was pleased with it.
“Between you and me, Twitter, I’ve seen the new Salem’S Lot and it’s quite good,” King shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff.”
He continued, “Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing, or anything. Who knows. I just write the fucking things.”

After the 2017 feature film adaptation of Stephen King's "It" became a blockbuster, studios rushed to greenlight new Stephen King adaptations. One example was a new film based on "Salem's Lot," King's 1975 novel about vampires who take over a small New England town. The new "Salem's Lot" movie was announced in 2019, and believe it or not, the film has long since finished production.
So where the heck is it?
Sitting on a (digital) shelf somewhere, that's where. Warner Bros, the studio behind the vampire adaptation, has been holding the film back for years now. It was initially scheduled for a 2022 release date, and now here we are in 2024, with no new date in place. King took to social media last year to complain about the film not being released, and now he's done it again, commenting that he thinks the movie is quite good and he still has no idea why WB isn't releasing it.

The long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is still without a release date, but we did get a bit of an update on Halloween night earlier this week. One of the biggest questions this year in terms of horror releases remains: Where’s the Salem’s Lot remake? According to Variety, the Gary Dauberman-directed Stephen King adaptation may be heading to Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform.

While a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Variety, “No decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans,” the outlet cites that “the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has created a growing need for Max content.” That makes Salem’s Lot a prime candidate, considering how long the adaptation has been shelved.
Perhaps, with vocal support from fans, Salem’s Lot may yet head to theaters as Evil Dead Rise did earlier this year.

Variety’s report reads: “A source with knowledge of the back-and-forth says the move is not a reflection of the film’s quality but is due to the fact that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has created a growing need for Max content. ‘Salem’s Lot’ is one of a few Warner Bros. films deemed to make the jump.” In response, a Warner Bros. spokesperson said, “No Decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans.” If the studio really does decide to release Salem’s Lot on Max, I can only hope that it might see a theatrical release as well; it’s...

Did Warner Bros. get spooked?
The studio is looking to jettison its horror film “Salem’s Lot” to Max, sources say. Warner Bros. developed it for a theatrical rollout, but after sitting on the shelf for a year, the Gary Dauberman-directed Stephen King adaptation is poised to make its debut on the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform.

Close to thirty years after their debut, the Gargoyles will be returning. THR reports that Gary Dauberman and James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company are developing a live-action Gargoyles TV series for Disney+.
Gary Dauberman will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner on the Gargoyles live-action TV series. There had been rumblings of a live-action Gargoyles movie since the animated series began. Jordan Peele even reportedly pitched a Gargoyles movie to Disney in 2018, but nothing ever came of it. There were rumours that Kenneth Branagh was attached to direct a Gargoyles movie earlier this summer, but Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman quickly shot it down. After so many years of rumours, it’s exciting that something is finally happening with the cult franchise.

The animated Gargoyles series followed a group of nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles who turn to stone during the day.

While it might not have a solid release date quite yet, it sure sounds like the remake of the classic adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot will eventually come to the big screen. At least, we and star Lewis Pullman certainly hope so. After all, Stephen King's vampire novel deserves to be reintroduced to a new generation. Hopefully, director Gary Dauberman will get to see his adaptation finally release amidst ongoing uncertainty at Warner Bros. Discovery.
What exactly will this adaptation entail? While major changes are still being kept under wraps, Pullman recently told ComicBook.com that some key aspects from the original novel will be retained for the big screen. While many book-to-movie adaptations promise to be faithful to varying degrees, it sounds like "Salem's Lot" will be taking that a step further.
"For the most part, [Dauberman's] really true to the book and [is] keeping a lot of the original dialogue in there,...

Warner Bros. still hasn’t announced a new release date for director Gary Dauberman‘s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel Here), which was originally supposed to be in theatres this past September. Then it was moved to April of next year. Then it was removed from the schedule entirely when Warner Bros. dropped Evil Dead Rise into its release date. But it will be coming along eventually (unless it gets Batgirled), and star Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) believes fans of the book will be satisfied when they see the movie.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Pullman said, “Gary Dauberman, the director, is really keen on doing justice to the book. But also, the previous adaptation was a two-parter, because it’s such a hefty book and there are so many different moving parts and so many characters. So there are some parts...

The new adaptation of Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman is currently missing in action, originally set for release in September 2022 before more recently being bumped to April 2023. As we learned over the summer, the WB/New Line movie is now without a release date entirely, and we’re waiting to hear more on that.
In the meantime, star Lewis Pullman (The Strangers: Prey at Night) has offered up some thoughts on Salem’s Lot in a chat with ComicBook.com, teasing the faithfulness to Stephen King‘s novel. How faithful is the new adaptation? According to Pullman, quite faithful.

Gravitas Ventures has released the first trailer for Light Years, the coming-of-age comedy with Andrew Lauren and DJ Gugenheim at Andrew Lauren Productions and Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin’s Free Association producing and Colin Thompson directing.
The film follows a thirtysomething man as he embarks on a cosmic vision quest. Thompson stars in the pic alongside Christopher Gray, Jennifer Lafleur, Makenzie Leigh, Russell Posner and Libby Winters.
The story of how the film came together has its own, overcoming-the-odds feel to it as Thompson did everything from overcoming hurdles in post-production due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to having to play a number of characters to cover the actors not able to partake in filming, and to the script eventually finding its way into the hands of Free Association.

In the era of #MeToo, Time’s Up and a time when women are being treated unfairly in the workplace, The Assistant couldn’t be released at a more relevant time — and the fact that it takes place in Hollywood makes the story too on the nose.
Written and directed by Kitty Green and starring the indelible Julie Garner, the drama follows one day in the life of Jane (Garner), a recent college graduate who has hopes of becoming a film producer. She recently landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul (is this beginning to sound familiar?) Most of her day is spent doing what many expect from an assistant job: she makes coffee, orders lunch, takes phone messages, takes messages, loads paper in the copy machine — it’s your basic gofer work. But as we see her go through her day, she begins...

There is untold damage that sexual predators like Harvey Weinstein have perpetrated upon the world. It begins, of course, with the victims, but it doesn’t end there. The impact it has on those who observe these actions is palpable and horrific as well. Filmmaker Kitty Green dramatizes this in The Assistant, a searing fictionalized account of what operating in the shadow of someone like Weinstein can do to a young woman. Hell, it even shows how a virus like that can infect everyone in the circle, regardless of gender. Opening this week, it’s a flick that will be a tough sell for the masses, but anyone looking for high quality independent cinema at the start of the year would do well to seek this one out. Just brace yourself. The film is a drama, focusing on a day in the life of a young assistant to a powerful movie executive.

Today kicks off the Sundance Film Festival, the premiere independent film festival in the industry. Every year, Sundance is home to a ton of quality indie titles, as well as furious buying frenzies as distributors hope to suck up the next big thing. Last year, movies like Blinded by the Light and Late Night were the toast of the festival, and even if they were box office disappointments, they were quality cinema (the former being my favorite film of 2019 by a wide margin). This year, the fest may not generate the same acquisition heat, but the slate offers up a handful of interesting flicks that should be on our radar for the rest of 2020. Below you’ll see twenty such films, though at this point, not being on the ground in Park City, this is a total shot in the dark, in terms of what will blow away pundits in Utah…...

Although he is faithful to Carlo Collodi’s ideas, he has nevertheless created a very personal Pinocchio that is much more cheerful than we’ve experienced before.”

"What did you say to her?! They told me you were smart!" Bleecker Street has debuted the first trailer for an indie drama titled The Assistant, a sort-of-fictional take on the Harvey Weinstein debacle, following a young assistant who starts working at his offices in New York City. This already premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, and it's also included in the Sundance 2020 line-up as one of their Spotlight selections. The film is about the stressful daily life of Jane, played by Julia Garner, who is a new hire. As Jane follows her daily routine, she, and we, grow more aware of all the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her workday, and she finally tries to make a stand. Also with Matthew Macfadyen, Makenzie Leigh, Kristine Froseth, Jon Orsini, Noah Robbins, and Stéphanye Dussud. This looks incredibly chilling and upsetting, which is the point, to show you what...

In the trailer for “The Assistant,” we never get to see the boss of Julia Garner’s character, only hear his voice. But we have an idea who he could be.
Garner stars in the film from writer and director Kitty Green, who interviewed several former employees and assistants of Harvey Weinstein and used their experiences as an inspiration for her screenplay based on his #MeToo scandal.
“Whatever’s going on, you can tell me, that’s what I’m here for,” a calming Hr representative tells the young Garner. “It’s a tough job, but I can see you’ve got what it takes.”

High up on our most anticipated American indie offerings for 2019, the probable gross “rite of passage” exposé of working under the indie film flagships and being at arm’s length of a predator has found its set of players. Joining Julia Garner, Deadline reports that the Matthew Macfadyen, Kristine Froseth, Makenzie Leigh (Sundance Trading Card), Noah Robbins, Dagmara Dominczyk and Purva Bedi are the supporting players on what is tentatively known as The Assistant. With a text that will likely provoke and make everyone pose some hard questions, Ukraine Is Not a Brothel/Casting JonBenet helmer Kitty Green has been hard at work since January. …...

Exclusive: Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Kristine Froseth (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) and Makenzie Leigh (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) have joined Julia Garner in writer-director Kitty Green’s untitled movie based on a day in the life of one of Harvey Weinstein’s assistants.
James Schamus (Brokeback Mountain), Scott Macaulay (Casting JonBenet) and Jen Dana (Brigsby Bear) are producing the Symbolic Exchange feature whose plot details are being kept under wraps. The movie is currently in production in New York.
Garner (Ozark) will star in the lead role; Macfadyen will play a human resources exec; Froseth will play an applicant to an intern program, with few skills for the job, who is put up in a nice hotel; and Leigh will play an actress auditioning for a film. It is unclear at this stage whether the character of Weinstein will appear in the film. His shadow will certainly loom large.
