I liked a lot of Friday (March 13) night's episode of "The Amazing Race," but maybe I didn't like it as an episode of "The Amazing Race," if you know what I mean. No? I really did find myself getting a kick out of all of the bickering couples, but I may just have been amused by how silly they made this season's twist/theme look. I enjoyed some of the things the pairs were getting to do, even though they didn't feel like "Amazing Race" kinds of things to do. And I found myself really rooting for the team that went home, even though I never felt for a second like they had any chance of cheating their fate again... More after the break... So for the third consecutive episode, the team that started the Leg in last ended the Leg in last and, for the third consecutive episode, that...

As Tim Sweeney hit the mat on Sunday night's "Amazing Race" finale, a spontaneous cheer broke out. "Tim! Tim! Tim!" the other Racers yelled. Had Tim and partner Marie won "The Amazing Race"? No. Marie completed the Million Dollar Flour Drop Roadblock well behind eventual Race winner Amy of Jason & Amy, as she and Tim settled for second place and the split of two exotic trips won for topping different Legs. The cheer that went up? "I think that was in appreciation for what I had gone through in sorta managing Marie's outbursts and anxiety and yelling...

Two inches might have come between Tim and Marie, and the $1 million on The Amazing Race 23. That's how much Marie's first flour drop missed the target by on her first try. "If I had gotten that and Amy got hers on her second try like she did, who knows what would've happened," she tells TVGuide.com. Instead, Marie took 12 tries, and the bickering exes came in second. Why did she have so much trouble with the drop? And does their 60-40 split contract still stand? Find out below.

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 11: “Amazing ‘Crazy’ Race”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Two-hour finale! Can you feel the excitement? It’s hard, considering we’ve been looking at these same four teams as front-runners basically from the beginning, and that they never really broke out of their initial molds, but nice that the fun-loving Afghanimals still get to play, and that we get to finally see everyone really go for it in terms of breaking alliances for the million. Jason and Amy depart first from Indonesia and fly to Tokyo.
Their strategy is to stay with the group, so they make sure to tell Mr. and Mrs. Dr. which flight they’re on, and they let Tim and Marie in on the info as well. All three have a semi-pathetic pow-wow on how to keep the Afghanimals out, still citing the Afghanimals’ “lies” as the reason,...

"The Amazing Race" Season 23 came to a close Sunday (Dec. 8). Read on to find out which team took home the million dollars.
Leg 11
The two-hour finale did something new for the show this year -- it started out with four teams left racing. The teams traveled from Indonesia to Japan, where cousins Leo and Jamal came in last at the pit stop and were eliminated in fourth place.
Leg 12
The last leg of the race took the final three teams from Japan to Alaska, where Nicole struggled with the roadblock where she had to hit a target from a prop plane. It put the married ER doctors Nicole and Travis in last place going into the final stretch of the race.
Unfortunately, Nicole also struggled with the ice-climbing challenge but the patented "Amazing Race" finale end puzzle was the great equalizer. Jason/Amy and Tim/Marie definitely had a lead,...

It is finally time to find out which globe-trotting team will be the winner of The Amazing Race. Last time, Jason and Amy were the first team to reach the Pit Stop, followed by Timothy and Marie (Reebs). Nicole and Travis grabbed third place.
Leo and Jamal (the Afghanimals), after a disastrous Detour, were the final team to reach the mat and were elated to learn that it was a non-elimination leg. The cousins will have to complete an additional task, a Speed Bump, which certainly may impact their chances of winning.
So who will reach the final Pit Stop first and win The Amazing Race? Let's find out!

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 10: “Cobra In My Teeth”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
We begin the 10th leg in Bandung, Indonesia, where the Afghanimals depart first to King Cobra House and eat snake, sadly, alone, as their race wives were ejected last week. Come to think of it, all the weaker teams are now gone, and we might have an exciting episode with some heavy-hitters duking it out for once. How it lies in the beginning is that the Aghanimals are aware they are the target; Marie is the toughest girl Tim knows, but it could all end with Marie’s weak stomach; Jason and Amy have not won a leg yet, but Amy is excited to eat snake; and the Dr.’s are itching to come back from their poor performance in the last leg.

Well, I didn't see that one coming.
Timothy and Reebs (Marie) spent nearly the entire 10th leg of The Amazing Race doing everything they possibly could to win themselves a U-Turn Award, but it was all a tease. All their perceived missteps during "Cobra in My Teeth" wound up not being all that bad, and another team swooped in to steal their dubious thunder.

Last time on The Amazing Race, the five remaining teams raced to Bandung, Indonesia, where the challenges literally went to the animals. Teams had to work with rams, elephants and birds. Nicole and Travis were stressed when Nicole had difficulty assembling a bamboo instrument, and Amy helped her friend. Travis told his wife that he was embarrassed by her performance.
At the Pit Stop, Leo and Jamal were the first team to arrive, followed by Timothy and Marie (Reebs) and Jason and Amy. Ally and Ashley were the final team to reach the mat and were eliminated from the race.

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 9: “Part Like the Red Sea”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Abu Dhabi is the start of 9th leg, but soon everyone must fly from the land where political correctness has been king, to Bandung, Indonesia, where racers can ask “Are the people there Chinese or Indian?” and it can make it to air. On the way to the airport, Mr. and Mrs. Dr. surprise no one by ramping their self-righteous attitudes up a notch from last episode, saying they aim to be beacon for God’s light in the race, unlike those filthy, lying Afghanimals. The Afghanimals counter in their car by saying things like “all gloves are off,” and “no more playing nice,” and “we didn’t come here to make friends,” (Ok, thank God not that last one). Meanwhile, Marie is sick of feeling bad for ordering Tim around so much,...

Poor Nicky and Kim, who also had to perform a Speed Bump because they were the last team to arrive on the previous leg, were U-Turned by Timothy and Marie (Reebs).

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 8: “One Hot Camel”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1 race track is the sleek beginning of this hit-and-miss 8th leg. Afghanimals leave first, and must use the satchel of coins they picked up earlier to unlock a car and get going. Not much of a code, though, since most teams came prepared with their numbers already—except the Ice Girls, who have a typical ditz moment holding up the coins to the lock like a sensor. Also typical, Tim asks his ex to promise not to yell at him if he drives, to which she yells at him to promise not to drive slow. Oy, just screw already.
Mr. and Mrs. Dr. have an Express Pass, and say that they will definitely be using it with the Double U-Turn coming up. They also might use the U-Turn itself on...

Speed Dating is the Worst
Only six teams are left, and Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria is the start of the 7th leg to cut it down to five. Mr. and Mrs. Dr. head off first, then the Baseball Wives—but the Afghanimals become the favorite for the leg when they find out they’re headed to Abu Dhabi and are “going home!!!” They even quickly book a flight before anyone else, putting themselves a whole, er, ten minutes ahead of the pack (again, no idea why people try to separate themselves—just not worth it). The Ice Girls feel like underdogs going last, but will rely on their Race Husbands to navigate their way through the “man’s world” of the Middle East; also some solid strategy.

Last week, the remaining teams on The Amazing Race arrived in Vienna, Austria. The teams had to sing with the Vienna Boys Choir, which was probably as excruciating to attempt as it was to watch.
There was also a major disagreement between Jason and Amy and Timothy and Marie (Reebs) as to whether Jason and Amy's taxi was taken by the other couple. Although Jason and Amy's bags were taken out of the cab by their driver, they still maintained that they would not have taken the cab if the same thing had happened to Timothy and Reebs. So much for friendship on The Amazing Race!
Nicole and Travis were the first couple to reach the Pit Stop. The final team to arrive, Tim and Danny, were eliminated. So who will take the lead on this leg of The Amazing Race? Let's find out!

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 6: “Choir Boy at Heart”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
We are in Poland, on the longest pier in Europe, where Tim and Marie depart first off the edge. Well, in my fantasies. In reality, they are instructed to take the train to Vienna, Austria, and find the Vienna Opera House, where a creepy “Rigoletto” will lead them to the costume department and their next clue. Jason and Amy depart second, and Amy starts off the episode delighted that she’s going “where The Sound of Music is!” We get a random cut-away of Tim from Team Oklahoma’s butt-crack, and with that the “opening” is complete.
The order from last leg soon loses all meaning when all the teams meet up in Warsaw for the connecting train. They get a chance to discuss Brandon and Adam’s loss. Everyone asks the Afghanimals if they U-Turned them,...

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 5: “Get Our Groove On”
Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
We begin with the reveal of an amazing Amazing Race Fake-Out! Last week it looked like Nicole and Travis were laughing maniacally while leaving the Exes in a literally clue-less lurch—but alas, no such luck. With the urging of Tim, the Express Pass the Exes have been clutching on to since the very first episode is finally—Finally—passed on to the Married Physicians in exchange for Pit Stop information. Little do they know, though, their place in the race is secure anyway: no one is being eliminated in this leg, and they are to keep racing to Poland all together. The Baseball Wives, who are last, are relieved; The Zz Tops, who are first, are insanely, pointlessly delighted; and they’re all off to where Communism collapsed in Eastern Europe, and...

Last week on The Amazing Race, nine teams arrived in Norway from Lisbon, Portugal. Brandon and Adam were the first to arrive at the Pit Stop, which was a Viking Longhouse, complete with rowdy, feasting Vikings. I loved the Vikings, and Brandon and Adam felt right at home with their bearded brethren. They received a prize of $5,000 each, and the news that the teams were still racing.
Nicole and Travis offered to help a desperate (and lost) Timothy and Marie (Reebs) in exchange for the Express Pass. Reebs was not pleased with Timothy's decision.

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 3: “King Arthur Style”

From winning last leg, Chester and Ephraim depart first from Chile, and find out they have to go to Portugal. This is a challenge for them, though, because usually they have “people” to book everything and line it up for them, and now they must find a flight themselves–an awful reminder for us that these people are already millionaires.
We get some characterizing time. The Afghanimals are excited because Jamal can use his Portuguese; also because they’re always excited. Nicole does the obnoxious exposition parrot routine she so enjoys: “We are Husband And Wife… Physicians.” It’s nails on a chalkboard.

The Amazing Race is heating up as the teams hit Lisbon, Portugal in episode 3. Check out some photos from tonight — with context provided from brow-errific host Phil Keoghan himself — below:
In a Detour, teams must assemble a life-size puzzle using fragile Portuguese tiles. “This is a great way to put together the perfect woman,” Phil remarks on Jamal and Leo (self-proclaimed “Afghanimals”)’s attempt.
“They may be blonde, but they’re smarter than they look,” Phil says of L.A. Kings Ice Crew members Ashley and Ally. “They are out to prove themselves on this Race.”

The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 2: “Zip It, Bingo” Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS

They depart first, but the positions prove to be pointless as they all have to wait overnight for a nearby boat to open. Marie doesn’t give up so easily, however. We pick back up in Iquique, Chile, where Exes Tim and Marie preen in their victory from the last leg and talk about their two express passes, which they plan to hold on to as long as humanly possible, because power. They depart first, but the positions prove to be pointless as they all have to wait overnight for a nearby boat to open. Marie doesn’t give up so easily, however. The Amazing Race, Season 23, Episode 1: “We’re Not in Oklahoma No More” Aired Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Phil Keoghan appears and tells us it is high noon, and that we are in an old western movie ranch. This is merely an excuse for fun music as nothing is really accomplished here, even after a tease that the money has been “stolen.” At least we get treated to two whole seconds of a stunt show style performance, because how else would you start the 23rd season of a reality show? Anyway, after a stumbling beginning, it’s thankfully all business as we meet the contestants. They are:
1. Former NFL Teammates Chester and Ephraim, who, incredibly, went from being bagger and customer to ending up on the same NFL team.
2. Theatre Performers Rowan and Shane, drag queens whose relationship is left predictably unclear.
3. Exes Tim and Marie, who have a hate/hate relationship.

"The Amazing Race" returns Sunday, Sept. 29 with Phil Keoghan still at the helm and now CBS has announced the 11 teams that will race around the world for a $1 million prize.
See all 11 teams here in our photo gallery
This season, which marks the 23nd race around the world for the series, will bring back the Double Express Pass twist that was introduced last season, in which the first Team to check in at the first pit stop will earn two "Express Passes" -- one to keep for themselves and one that must be given to another Team by the end of the fifth leg of the Race.
As Teams travel through four continents and nine countries, spanning more than 35,000 miles, they will paraglide high above the skies of Iquique, Chile, subject themselves to a bone-chilling plunge in Norway and buckle up for Formula One Racing in Abu Dhabi.

There's a reason the comedy is making a comeback on television in recent seasons, and it was made very clear when People magazine partnered with ABC for a "20/20" special called "Best in TV: The Greatest TV Shows of Our Time." Every television series that found itself in the Top 5 on the list was a comedy. This despite there being a separate category for best comedies.
In fact, the special had plenty of categories, so it could honor all sorts of different shows. They looked at the tops for Best Comedy, Drama, Legal or Cop Show, Reality Show and Variety Show. They also touched on a few other categories like Best TV Mom, Host, and Non-Human Character.
But when it came to the Best TV Show of All Time, America said they wanted to laugh. The Top 5 counted down through "Cheers," "All in the Family" and "Seinfeld" before declaring "M*A*S*H" a close second.

Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs aren't the only 2 Broke Girls on CBS. Liz and Marie Canavan didn't have a penny to their name when they arrived in Bangkok on The Amazing Race after giving all their cash to a cabbie. So they were forced to walk most of the way to their destination, eventually leading to their elimination. "I think we could've caught up had we had money," Liz tells TVGuide.com. "We could've taken cabs and you saw how unpredictable that got." The twins did get two free cab rides — albeit too late — but they don't regret not asking for them earlier. Find out why — and why they love elephants.
Amazing Race's Kaylani and Lisa: We're shocked Marcus forgot the answer
How far behind Jeremy and Sandy were you?
Marie: Well, we were probably an hour behind them. An hour to two hours. ... We knew we were last.

We don’t know how many teams are in front of us and how many teams are behind us.
Without knowing it, Marcus’ comment while riding in to Bangkok turned out to be perfect foreshadowing for a tremendous ending to the leg. The 19th season of The Amazing Race has been a lot of fun and this week’s episode, "I Feel Like I'm In The Circus," continued that trend.
Despite a solid start to the leg which included an unexpected back to back Roadblock the real drama for this week did not occur until the last third of the leg. With the aforementioned two Roadblocks complete the teams scrambled to find bus transportation for a 500 mile trip to Bangkok. There were plenty of options and the separation and confusion that occurred because of those options gave us our phenomenal finish.
In terms of shaking up the standings at that time,...

One of the biggest complaints I've had about Emmy powerhouse The Amazing Race is that the results have increasingly been determined not by the performance of a team in that leg's road block/detour but more logistical errors that render said challenges pretty irrelevant. It doesn't make as much of a difference in the grander scheme of things, considering how frustratingly simple the detours and road blocks have gotten in recent years, but for a show with as strong a pedigree as The Amazing Race has to let cab drivers and plane tickets trump the supposedly amazing part of your race is pretty maddening.
"I Feel Like I'm in the Circus" is arguably the most prime example of this phenomenon thus far in the season, as the two road blocks had absolutely no effect on the outcome of the race. I understand that there are other factors that determine who wins The Amazing Race,...

'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8Pm Et on CBS) made its way to Thailand this week, where teams got a chance to give back to the region -- kind of -- after the 2004 tsunami ravaged the region. Particularly, the coral was devastated. So teams had an option to help rebuild the by building a coral nursery.
Of course, the other option was helping set up chairs and umbrellas on the beach which helps ... the toursim industry?
Both tasks proved more challenging than most teams expected, with twins Liz and Marie perhaps struggling the most with their umbrellas. Wind and umbrellas does not make a good combination.

First coined by sociologist Robert Merton, the self-fulfilling prophecy is a concept that involves expectations forming reality. If one chooses to define their situation a certain way, the reality of their definition will eventually come to fruition, which is often a fairly negative ordeal.
In a nutshell, if you think something will be awful, chances are it'll be awful, which can easily transfer to television.
When I first saw that the title of Sunday's episode of The Amazing Race was "This is Gonna Be a Fine Mess", I had to laugh because, like America's Next Top Model last season, the show was just taunting me. It's been a lackluster season of the race, characterized by lame challenges, static running order plagued by time equalizers, and a lack of charismatic, root-able teams in which to invest in. If you're going to title your episode something about a "fine mess", you're just asking for it,...

Last time, twins Liz and Marie just barely scraped by into eighth place, and Cathi fell down, but it was showgirls Kaylani and Lisa who were out. The Amazing Race teams are headed for Phuket, Thailand, which is pronounced poo-ket, even though it looks like it could be something naughty. Laurence pronounces it "Pucket," which is charming on him.
Andy and Tommy find out that there's no direct flight to Phuket, so they go to Jakarta first, with Laurence and Zac in tow. I hope they're right. Are you drinking along tonight? Because the twins are already talking in unison, Andy and Tommy are extraordinarily relaxed, and Bill and Cathi are talking about their age!

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race, "Don't Lay Down on Me Now," was certainly the best of this short season and definitely one of the best in quite a while.
Installments such as this - where we find ourselves on the edge of our seat and cheering for teams - is why The Amazing Race is such an awesome show.
There are a number of elements that make up a great episode and this week hit them all. Let’s break them down.
The most important factor is uncertainty and dynamics. This week was packed with both culminating and a phenomenal finish. The roadblock challenge at the end of the leg gave any team an opportunity to catch up, regardless of how far behind they were.
Case in point? Amani and Marcus , who fell behind because of taxi cab issues, but still managed a sixth place finish. Sure,...

Although I hate to admit it, I gained a little bit of optimism about The Amazing Race after last week's entertaining-but-still-flawed double elimination episode. However, while it was an improvement over the premiere, it had enough beautiful location shots and mid-race flailing by the teams to where I could (mostly) overlook the easy challenges and generally static positioning. By now, the season would have had a chance to settle in and find its groove, so the third episode would be pivotal in terms of establishing how the remaining legs would be.
If "Don't Lay Down on Me Now" is any indication, we're in for a confusing, frustrating, moderately entertaining finish to The Amazing Race, as it was another weak episode that wiped out whatever sense of optimism I had after episode two. For one, the ambiguity of the clues has to be reigned in a little bit. I actively encourage...

In all honesty, I wasn't looking forward to this week's episode of The Amazing Race. The show was coming off a premiere that embraced a lot of what has made the last few seasons less enjoyable and if things hadn't improved in the 19th season premiere, this season was already shot, right?
Right?
"The Sprint of Our Life" was a noticeable rebound over "Kindness of Strangers". It may not have been a truly perfect episode of The Amazing Race, but there was enough of a balance between the dizzying twists, intriguing team dynamics, and good ol' fashioned competition that made it a fun watch, at least for me.
The main thing I was excited to see was that the challenges had improved. (That's not saying much considering that the premiere had a challenge where teams used the phone.) The spelunking could have been better had the teams been forced to...

And they are off! The 19th season of The Amazing Race sent eleven teams of two out on a racearoundtheworld for One! Million! Dollars! I had my vodka chilled and ready to go for my own personal Tar Drinking Game. You do a shot every time someone calls their teammate “babe,” you do a shot every time someone says they can't do a task, and every time someone says they're quitting the Race you do a double shot. When Brent and Caite were Racing a few seasons back I almost died of alcohol poisoning.

The Amazing Race kicked off its brand new season tonight with another 11 teams gathering at the pitstart in Southern California in the hopes of making it through 12 gruelling legs and claiming the $$1 million prize. This season's racers are: former Olympic snowboarders Andy and Tommy, former Survivor winners Ethan and Jenna (who want to keep their winning past a secret but are rumbled by some of the other teams), newly-engaged Ernie and Cindy, father-and-son adventurers Lawrence and Zack, siblings Jennifer and Justin, married grandparents Bill and Cathi, twin sisters Liz and Marie, domestic partners Bill and Ron, dating couple Jeremy and Sandy, married couple Amani and Marcus, and former Showgirls Kahlani and Lisa. The first challenge in question is a word puzzle which involves piecing together six letters displayed on a board with three letters found on one of the (more)...

Last season on The Amazing Race, the wheels started to come off the bus more noticeably. Although the show won its 8th Emmy earlier this month, the Unfinished Business season as a whole was pretty underwhelming, with relatively easy challenges, alliance domination like no other season, and a winner that never rose above the pack during any particular part of the show, minus the finale.
Which is why I'm so disappointed in "Kindness of Stranger", the show's 19th season premiere. It seems that instead of tightening up the proceedings, casting strong, capable teams, and getting back to what made the show so great in the first place, the powers that be decided to go in the opposite direction and made the show that much more maddening.
The challenges during the premiere were a little silly and seemed too easy to be getting the response they got from the teams. I...

"The Amazing Race" premieres, kicking off in Los Angeles with their 11 teams of two. Are you excited for the 19th season?
Thoughts during intros:
It's great to see Ethan Zohn of "Survivor" looking so great after his battle with cancer. Love that there is a pair from Stone Mountain, Ga. Isn't that where Kenneth the Page is from on "30 Rock"?The twins need to dial down on the use of "literally." I'm a big Colts fan, so it's great to see Marcus Pollard on the show.
The First Challenge
The winners of the first leg once again win the Express Pass, which they can use up to the end of the eighth leg to skip any challenge. The first challenge is a tricky word puzzle that will reveal their first location (Taipei, Taiwan). The team that's last receives a Hazard penalty, which they have to complete sometime during the first leg.

The Emmy Award-winning race is starting again! This time on The Amazing Race, Olympic snowboarders (Andy and Tommy), Survivor winners (Ethan and Jenna), and sailing record setters (Laurence and Zac) are competing! There's also engaged couple Ernie and Cindy, brother and sister Justin and Jennifer, married grandparents Bill and Cathi, who farm, and Twins (remember that beer commercial?). The twins are named Liz and Marie. The classically good looking dating couple, Jeremy and Sandy, are in the race, along with domestic partners Tom and Bill (go gay couple!), NFL husband and wife Amani and Marcus, and showgirls Kaylani and Lisa filling the token hot team slot.
The Express Pass is back, and goes to the first team to finish this leg. The first challenge is a word puzzle leading them to Taipei, Taiwan. The last team to finish this puzzle receives a new stumbling block: the Hazard. The teams rush...
