We’re getting down to the end of the 19th season of The Amazing Race and the four remaining teams have certainly earned their spot. This week’s episode, "Release the Brake," challenged the duos to prove they still belong.
Towards the end of the episode, with elimination seemingly inevitable, Bill said that he and Cathi likely surprised themselves will how long they stuck around. Safe to say they surprised 95% of us watching the show. Finally they encountered a leg that was difficult, long and lacked a catch up point for the older couple and it did them in.
That’s not to try to take anything away from “Ma and Pa,” as they were affectionately nicknamed by their fellow racers. Only once were they the beneficiaries of luck; just the one non-elimination leg at the very beginning of the race. They had two second place finishes with one of them after being double U-turned.

Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs aren't the only 2 Broke Girls on CBS. Liz and Marie Canavan didn't have a penny to their name when they arrived in Bangkok on The Amazing Race after giving all their cash to a cabbie. So they were forced to walk most of the way to their destination, eventually leading to their elimination. "I think we could've caught up had we had money," Liz tells TVGuide.com. "We could've taken cabs and you saw how unpredictable that got." The twins did get two free cab rides — albeit too late — but they don't regret not asking for them earlier. Find out why — and why they love elephants.
Amazing Race's Kaylani and Lisa: We're shocked Marcus forgot the answer
How far behind Jeremy and Sandy were you?
Marie: Well, we were probably an hour behind them. An hour to two hours. ... We knew we were last.

Last time, twins Liz and Marie just barely scraped by into eighth place, and Cathi fell down, but it was showgirls Kaylani and Lisa who were out. The Amazing Race teams are headed for Phuket, Thailand, which is pronounced poo-ket, even though it looks like it could be something naughty. Laurence pronounces it "Pucket," which is charming on him.
Andy and Tommy find out that there's no direct flight to Phuket, so they go to Jakarta first, with Laurence and Zac in tow. I hope they're right. Are you drinking along tonight? Because the twins are already talking in unison, Andy and Tommy are extraordinarily relaxed, and Bill and Cathi are talking about their age!

For a team that only competed on "The Amazing Race" for only three episodes, Kaylani Paliotta and Lisa Tilley had a memorable journey. The Las Vegas-based former showgirls finished near the back of the pack in the season's first leg, but they got a disproportionate amount of premiere-night screentime after Kaylani dropped her passport at a gas station and had to rely on the kindness of Twitter-wielding strangers to retrieve the key document. The following week, as team after team failed to notice a key clue at an Indonesia orphanage, Kaylani & Lisa were one of only three pairs...

For once, having a cab caused a downfall on The Amazing Race. Vegas showgirls Kaylani Paliotta and Lisa Tilley lost valuable time when they had to settle their cab fare before checking into the Pit Stop at Indonesia's Borobudur Temple, ultimately in last place. "When we were driving up there, we kept telling each other, 'We're going to pay our cab,'" Tilley tells TVGuide.com. "But for whatever reason, once we actually got there, we were in such a rush to get started that we just had him wait and got out." Still, while their race ended early, they're happy to have raced at all after Paliotta lost her passport en route to Lax in the first leg — only to have Twitter come to the rescue.

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race, "Don't Lay Down on Me Now," was certainly the best of this short season and definitely one of the best in quite a while.
Installments such as this - where we find ourselves on the edge of our seat and cheering for teams - is why The Amazing Race is such an awesome show.
There are a number of elements that make up a great episode and this week hit them all. Let’s break them down.
The most important factor is uncertainty and dynamics. This week was packed with both culminating and a phenomenal finish. The roadblock challenge at the end of the leg gave any team an opportunity to catch up, regardless of how far behind they were.
Case in point? Amani and Marcus , who fell behind because of taxi cab issues, but still managed a sixth place finish. Sure,...

Although I hate to admit it, I gained a little bit of optimism about The Amazing Race after last week's entertaining-but-still-flawed double elimination episode. However, while it was an improvement over the premiere, it had enough beautiful location shots and mid-race flailing by the teams to where I could (mostly) overlook the easy challenges and generally static positioning. By now, the season would have had a chance to settle in and find its groove, so the third episode would be pivotal in terms of establishing how the remaining legs would be.
If "Don't Lay Down on Me Now" is any indication, we're in for a confusing, frustrating, moderately entertaining finish to The Amazing Race, as it was another weak episode that wiped out whatever sense of optimism I had after episode two. For one, the ambiguity of the clues has to be reigned in a little bit. I actively encourage...

The Amazing Race's latest episode kicks off with previous leg winners Andy and Tommy getting the first clue - the teams will have to fall into formation with a group of local bicycle enthusiasts and ride to a specified destination where the bicycle guard commander will hand over the next clue. As the other teams depart too, Kaylani tells us that she's a single mom and is desperate to do well on the race for her young daughter. Cindy informs us of the prep work that she and Ernie did before leaving on the race, which includes geography and language lessons, while Cathi pokes fun at the age difference between herself and Bill and the rest of the team, and Justin and Jennifer vow to curb their sibling bickering. Amani and Marcus are the last to leave and feeling the pressure. Disaster strikes for Ernie and Cindy on the...

We're two teams lighter for this leg of The Amazing Race in Indonesia. It's Ok that Ethan and Jenna are gone, they were loaded down by their existing millions anyway. Did you know that the Dutch colonized Indonesia? I did not. Anyway, the teams will have to go on a Colonial, 1940's bike riding reenactment, courtesy of the Dutch.
Sometimes I feel like The Amazing Race is all about the costumes. Colonial Andy and Tommy have a good time doing all these extraneous bike tricks. Ah, they're so cool and sexy. They're followed by Laurence and Zac, and showgirls Kaylani and Lisa. Ernie and Cindy depart fourth, and they are over-prepared because Cindy is an organizational freak.

In all honesty, I wasn't looking forward to this week's episode of The Amazing Race. The show was coming off a premiere that embraced a lot of what has made the last few seasons less enjoyable and if things hadn't improved in the 19th season premiere, this season was already shot, right?
Right?
"The Sprint of Our Life" was a noticeable rebound over "Kindness of Strangers". It may not have been a truly perfect episode of The Amazing Race, but there was enough of a balance between the dizzying twists, intriguing team dynamics, and good ol' fashioned competition that made it a fun watch, at least for me.
The main thing I was excited to see was that the challenges had improved. (That's not saying much considering that the premiere had a challenge where teams used the phone.) The spelunking could have been better had the teams been forced to...

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change all the questions.
The famous quote from former WWE wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper is the perfect saying for this week’s episode of The Amazing Race, "The Spirit of Our Life." Teams were so flustered by the first change, the double elimination, that over 70% of them didn’t pay attention to the smallest change.
Having never run the race myself, perhaps I do not understand the mania that takes over when the fear of being eliminated is so eminent. Additionally, as the race has evolved the margins separating the teams have gradually gotten smaller. However, it continues to amaze me how often teams are eliminated or make mistakes simply from not reading.
With that in mind, I give The Amazing Race producers a lot of credit for this week’s simple twist in the middle of the episode. From years of watching the show,...

Perhaps the most surprising and interesting part of last night's The Amazing Race 19's premiere was when Kaylani Paliotta's passport was returned to her with the help of Twitter. Here's the full story of how that went down. Kaylani lost her passport at a gas station, and though the camera operator noticed--teams never seem to notice what apparently but actually significant things their camera operators are filming--she and her teammate, Lisa Tilley, did not. When...

And they are off! The 19th season of The Amazing Race sent eleven teams of two out on a racearoundtheworld for One! Million! Dollars! I had my vodka chilled and ready to go for my own personal Tar Drinking Game. You do a shot every time someone calls their teammate “babe,” you do a shot every time someone says they can't do a task, and every time someone says they're quitting the Race you do a double shot. When Brent and Caite were Racing a few seasons back I almost died of alcohol poisoning.
Each of the teams has a pre-existing relationship, and the teams this season are:

Jeremy & Sandy, dating
Justin & Jennifer, siblings
Ethan & Jenna, dating couple and this season's stunt casting, as both are winners of Survivor
Amani & Marcus, married
Laurence & Zac, father/son adventurers
Andy & Tommy, pro snowboarders
Ron & Bill, domestic partners, flight attendants...

For Kaylani and Lisa, their adventure with 'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8Pm Et on CBS) nearly came to an end before they even arrived at Lax to leave the country. When stopping for directions, Kaylani accidentally knocked her passport out of the car, but when they returned for it, it was gone.
One of the most amazing things in 'Tar' history then happened, as a couple of guys who happened to be at the gas station when a different team came guy noticed the passport and went to Twitter to talk about having just seen teams racing.
He was then told to get to Lax to give her the passport, and he arrived like a guardian angel with a miracle.

The 19th season of The Amazing Race started with a huge surprise. What it the inclusion of former Survivor winners and dating couple Ethan and Jenna? Nope. Former Indianapolis Colts tight end Marcus Pollard? Nope.
While the casting of some pseudo-celebrities was fun to see, it pales in comparison to the miracle that was Kaylani and Lisa recovering Lisa’s passport. Kaylani’s passport somehow fell out of their car when the duo stopped for directions at a gas station. A pair of unidentified men saw the pair being taped for The Amazing Race and saw her drop her passport and had the wherewithal to bring it to the airport.
Fishy? I thought so at first as well. However, I give the producers credit for pseudo-proving that the scene was not staged at all. The pair agreed to be interviewed to tell how they knew what was going on and...

Last season on The Amazing Race, the wheels started to come off the bus more noticeably. Although the show won its 8th Emmy earlier this month, the Unfinished Business season as a whole was pretty underwhelming, with relatively easy challenges, alliance domination like no other season, and a winner that never rose above the pack during any particular part of the show, minus the finale.
Which is why I'm so disappointed in "Kindness of Stranger", the show's 19th season premiere. It seems that instead of tightening up the proceedings, casting strong, capable teams, and getting back to what made the show so great in the first place, the powers that be decided to go in the opposite direction and made the show that much more maddening.
The challenges during the premiere were a little silly and seemed too easy to be getting the response they got from the teams. I...

"The Amazing Race" premieres, kicking off in Los Angeles with their 11 teams of two. Are you excited for the 19th season?
Thoughts during intros:
It's great to see Ethan Zohn of "Survivor" looking so great after his battle with cancer. Love that there is a pair from Stone Mountain, Ga. Isn't that where Kenneth the Page is from on "30 Rock"?The twins need to dial down on the use of "literally." I'm a big Colts fan, so it's great to see Marcus Pollard on the show.
The First Challenge
The winners of the first leg once again win the Express Pass, which they can use up to the end of the eighth leg to skip any challenge. The first challenge is a tricky word puzzle that will reveal their first location (Taipei, Taiwan). The team that's last receives a Hazard penalty, which they have to complete sometime during the first leg.

The Emmy Award-winning race is starting again! This time on The Amazing Race, Olympic snowboarders (Andy and Tommy), Survivor winners (Ethan and Jenna), and sailing record setters (Laurence and Zac) are competing! There's also engaged couple Ernie and Cindy, brother and sister Justin and Jennifer, married grandparents Bill and Cathi, who farm, and Twins (remember that beer commercial?). The twins are named Liz and Marie. The classically good looking dating couple, Jeremy and Sandy, are in the race, along with domestic partners Tom and Bill (go gay couple!), NFL husband and wife Amani and Marcus, and showgirls Kaylani and Lisa filling the token hot team slot.
The Express Pass is back, and goes to the first team to finish this leg. The first challenge is a word puzzle leading them to Taipei, Taiwan. The last team to finish this puzzle receives a new stumbling block: the Hazard. The teams rush...
