Rocksroy Bailey believes that his experiences in fatherhood will give him a boost as a contestant on “Survivor 42.” The 44-year-old stay-at-home dad, who grew up in Brooklyn, discusses in his CBS interview how being a father is the toughest job there is. “One of the things you learn right away is that you don’t really matter anymore and that you must have patience,” says Rocksroy. “And patience is a virtue in this game” (watch below).
The Brooklyn native will be trying to fill the role of provider in camp, hoping it will make his tribemates want to keep him around. “Comfort, in terms of having fire, getting food, stuff like that, that sticks in people’s minds,” he explains. “Like, ‘Wait, hold on. I don’t know if I really want to vote Rocks off. If he’s catching two fish a day, I’m eating!'” This strategy...

While a physical show like “Survivor” may appear to favor jock types, some of the best castaways who often thrive the most in the game are the nerds. With strategy dominating the game, it is the brainier among us who stand out from the pack and typically become fan favorites in the process. They are typically described as “superfans” who have seen every episode and studied the game extensively, like Rob Cesternino, who changed how the game was played in “Survivor: The Amazon.” He was such a smart player that he went on to be voted out very early in “All Stars” due to his threat level. Check out our gallery of the Top 18 nerdiest “Survivor” players ever above.

“Survivor: Winners at War” may purport to decide the best winner of all time, but 18 former champions could plausibly dispute that. While Season 40 does have “Survivor” legends like Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine, it does not include every past winner. For instance, the first two winners, Richard Hatch and Tina Wesson, are missing from the “Winners at War” cast despite being from two of the most-watched seasons in the show’s history. Check out our photos above of all 18 “Survivor” winners not on the Season 40 cast.

You might think that “Survivor” would invite its first-ever Sole Survivor Richard Hatch to be on board for the show’s landmark 40th season, “Winners at War,” that pits 20 former winners against one another. But there was a good reason to not allow him to compete again. As host Jeff Probst told Us Weekly, “Given his history on our show, it did not seem appropriate.”
Part of the issue is tied in part with what happened on “Island of the Idols,”the 39th season that was filmed weeks before the 40th outing. Dan Spilo became the first contestant removed from the show because of inappropriate touching of female players and a crew member. On his two seasons competing on the show, Hatch was oddly allowed to walk about naked. It was on Season 4 during a challenge that Hatch decided to drop his buff and everything else and compete nude. He...

But with 39 seasons of winners and only 20 slots to fill, there are some glaring omissions we won’t see on the island this year. In our recent poll that asked which returning Male champion our readers most want to win “Survivor: Winners at War,” two men essentially tied for the top position: Rob Mariano at 27% and Yul Kwon at 25%. These former winners couldn’t be more different from each other, as Boston Rob is a “Survivor” legend who’s played a whopping four times (and mentored once), while Yul competed just one time 27 seasons ago. Rounding out the top four, Ethan Zohn came in with 16% while Tony Vlachos received 10% support. Do you agree or disagree with these Season 40 poll results? Sound off down in the comments section.

Sandra Diaz-Twine may be the queen of “Survivor,” but fans have their fingers crossed that the reality TV show’s princess ends up winning Season 40 instead. With “The Masked Singer” Season 3 on the horizon (it will debut after Super Bowl Liv), it’s time to look at what changes we’d like to make for the new year. Regular panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke are all expected to return, but we’re hoping they’ll be joined full-time by guest judge Joel McHale. Also, the fact that Fox’s wild and wacky reality TV show still isn’t airing live after two cycles continues to confound us. Below, see our Christmas wish list for “The Masked Singer” Season 3.

Heading into the second episode of “Survivor” Season 39, we already knew from the preview trailer that the next unsuspecting castaway to meet Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Mariano at the “Island of the Idols” would be Kellee Kim. Everyone’s favorite game show is back! Host Howie Mandel is once again joined by 26 models for CNBC’s continuation of the dream-making series. There are those “Survivor” fans whose dream is to compete in the game one day. Then there are those who, like me, would be satisfied to simply attend the taping of live portion of the finale and gawk at the players that they have been watching for weeks. Well, I can now cross that off my bucket list. I was part of the audience who participated in the three-hour wrap-up of Season 38, aka “Edge of Extinction.”
By now, you probably know that former Extinction Island dweller Chris Underwood somehow managed to win the title of Sole Survivor away from the favorite to take it all, idol-magnet Rick Devens, after only playing only 13 days. Controversial doesn’t even cover that outcome.
But that decision couldn’t spoil my opportunity to gaze upon such fan favorites as the season’s returning veteran players — Joe Anglim, Aubry Bracco, Kelley Wentworth and David Wright.

As Season 38 of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” comes to a close this Wednesday with a three-hour finale, it continues to deliver innovations — some good, some not so good — to CBS’ venerable reality show’s format. I still have mixed feelings about having a horde of eliminated players crawling around Extinction Island like Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings.” Reem Daly, the first voted-out contestant, is like a cranky Greek sea creature, barking out her displeasure as those who banished her arrive one by one.
And if I never see another “Survivor” cast-off standing before those three signs explaining their Extinction options and then basically saying, “Heck yeah, I’m going,” before grabbing that lit torch, I won’t miss it. Considering that only two contestants, Wendy Diaz and Keith Sowell, have actually left the game, that means the will be a record 13 jury members determining the fates of the...

Will ‘Survivor’ celebrate its 40th season with an all-winners edition? And should they do it? [Poll]
Richard Hatch vs. Sandra Diaz-Twine vs. Boston Rob? Oh, my.
For now, such a showdown is just a dream. However, there are rumbles in the “Survivor” jungle about what might be store for CBS’ reality show’s landmark 40th season. And it is quite an epic mind-blower: an all-winner cast pitted against one another. Inside Survivor and Reality Blurred both suggested that it is being considered for the series’ 20th anniversary next year.
The one blip that suggests that this isn’t quite a done deal yet derives from an interview that host Jeff Probst gave “Us Weekly” last summer during filming of Season 38. “We can’t do all winners. As a producer, I would never suggest it. I would say it’s not a good idea.”

When I was in 7th grade the first season of “Survivor” aired. Like millions around the world I was transfixed as cocky villain Richard Hatch won the game of social politics. For the past 18 years I have continued to watch with fervor. So it was an exhilarating experience this year to go to the grand final of “Survivor: David vs. Goliath” and be inside the stadium where the biblical battle concluded. Watch my video recap above.

There are a lot of great strategic and physical games in the world. “Survivor” incorporates those elements, but above all is a game of people — where relationships, emotions and perceptions (or is it perspectives?) need to be navigated in order to win. All while being fatigued and starving. It makes every season unique and the world’s greatest game.

After last week’s twisted two-immunity, two-tribal council double elimination, we’re down to the Top 8 on “Survivor: Ghost Island.” Because there’s an even split of four men and four women, we’re dividing this week’s power rankings up by gender. Tonight, during the finale of Survivor: Game Changers, Iowa cop Sarah Lacina won the million bucks, the title of Sole Survivor – and most importantly, the Final Fishy.
Sarah came into the season vowing to play more like a criminal rather than a cop. Over the ensuing 39 days, she played one of the strongest games in the history of the show. While she was largely a quiet presence before the merge, Sarah was the decisive force in almost every post-merge vote.

Debbie Wanner may not have won Survivor, but she went out like a champ.
The 51-year-old Pennsylvania native was blindsided on Wednesday's episode of Survivor: Game Changers, but instead of going off one of the Debbie rants we've all come to know and love, she delivered a cool, calm and collected "Good luck to you all!" as she watched her torch get snuffed.
Exclusive: Ozzy Lusth on Witnessing Jeff Varner Out Zeke Smith on 'Survivor': 'The Reaction Was Shock'
The smiling, even-tempered Wanner is a departure from the scrappy, confident player fans watched this season -- and who even declared, "We have complete control of this game. There is not a line drawn in the sand. There is a land drawn in concrete," before being voted out. But as Wanner explained to Et over the phone on Thursday, once she saw her name written down at tribal, she prepared...

She's met presidents and prime ministers (apparently) but according to herself, the highlight of Debbie's colorful life was getting to meet Survivor winner John Cochran and gaining an advantage in the game. Debbie chose the extra vote advantage as a part of her reward package on the best Exile Island ever, despite an extra vote never being used to the owner's advantage. So can Debbie be the first to use the extra vote correctly, or will it be the kiss of death for her as it has been for other (smarter and better) Survivor players?...

Survivor took its fourth victim on Wednesday night's episode, as fan favorite Malcolm Freberg was sent home.
In another Game Changers twist, Nuku and Mana were sent to tribal council after Tavua won the immunity challenge -- but only one castaway would be sent home.
Exclusive: 'Survivor' Castaway Caleb Reynolds on Bromance With Tai After 'Game Changers' Betrayal: 'He Had To'
With the numbers in favor of keeping all members of Nuku, the tribe just had to stick together and hope Mana didn't have a Hidden Immunity Idol... but that proved just a little too difficult. After whispering strategy through a discussion with Jeff Probst, both tribes ended up standing in huddles as they made their decisions on who to vote for.
Nuku settled on Sierra, while Mana decided on our favorite modern-day Fabio, whose fate was sealed after Tai guessed right, playing his idol for Sierra.

This concludes my coverage of "Survivor: Worlds Apart." The 30th "Survivor" installment -- "The Dirty 30" as the castaways were apparently calling it -- wrapped up last Wednesday with a decisive victory for Texas oil driller Mike Holloway, who earned six votes from the Jury, beating Will and Carolyn, who took one symbolic vote apiece. It was a hard-earned win for Mike, who started off in a position of power with a strong Blue Collar alliance only to have his former chums turn on him. Backed into a corner, Mike made a new alliance with vestiges of both White and No Collar tribes, ties that paid few dividends during the season, but formed the spine of his Jury triumph. After perceived challenge powerhouse Joe was taken out, Mike became the target every single week and nearly every single week he won Individual Immunity, tying a quartet of "Survivor" legends -- Colby,...

Through Wednesday night's finale, voters can visit Survivor's website to choose the 10 men and 10 women who they want to see compete next season.
Last week, People profiled 10 women who are in the running to compete.

Everyone knows that Survivor is a highly edited show.
Over a period of three days, multiple cameras film between 300-500 hours of footage. Then, a team of editors boil all that footage down to one 44-minute episode.
Dan Foley, the latest contestant voted off the island, says he watched the first two episodes and realized that he was going to get a villain's edit. But even he seems surprised at how negatively he was portrayed – and how vitriolic the viewer response has been.
So what did we miss? Foley, a 47-year-old postal worker from Maine, was happy to tell us.

Rather than selecting returning players unilaterally and listening to fans complain about the latest return for Rupert or a confusing return for a castaway even superfans don't remember, "Survivor" has left the decision somewhat up to America to determine the 20 castaways for Season 31. On Wednesday (May 6) at the end of the latest episode of the less-than-lackluster "Survivor: Worlds Apart," CBS formally announced what had long been rumored across the Interwebs. There are 32 candidates up for the "Second Chance" season. As the word "second" implies, this season will only be open to one-time former players who didn't win, so all of your Hantzes and Ruperts are out. Thank God. Instead, this group of 32 includes contestants going back to original "Survivor: Borneo" runner-up Kelly Wigglesworth. And then there are five candidates from the current season, including two who haven't been eliminated yet, which is either an annoying spoiler or not, but I'm...

On last week's "Survivor: Worlds Apart," several castaways talked about talking much-maligned underdog Shirin Oskooi to the end because of the assumption that nobody would vote for her. This was crazy-talk and I figured Shirin would have been a lock for at least four votes. "Five, bro! I had five Jury votes bro, five," Shirin was quick to tell me when we spoke after Wednesday's "Survivor." Of course, the fact that we were speaking on Thursday meant that Shirin would actually be receiving zero Jury votes, because she was sent to join the Jury herself in a vote that at least had drama thanks to an Idol bluff from Mike. Sensing an inevitable vote against Shirin, Mike feigned like he was going to give the former White Collar member his Hidden Immunity Idol and suggested the ruling alliance would be wise to cannibalize itself. Mike's move caused a couple surprise votes to go against Dan,...

Some people know a lot about Survivor. They can spout off statistics and strategy, and they remember even the most obscure contestants from previous seasons.
Max Dawson is one of those superfans. He peppers his conversation with random factoids from the show's 30-season run, and even taught a college-level class at Northwestern about Survivor. He's very active in the Survivor fan community, to the point where many superfans knew who he was long before he set foot on the island. If anyone knows the ins and the outs of the game, it should be Max Dawson.

Pre-credit sequence. Storms seem to be building as No Collar returns to camp. "Nina got what was coming to her," Hali cackles, malevolently, as if Nina had done her any harm at all. Hali explains to Will that his name only came up twice as a safety net. Will says that No Collar has the unit they want, but he also knows that he's doomed unless he can get Joe to turn on the girls this early. He eats things that would make a billy-goat puke. Yikes. There's a big snake over at Blue Collar. Mike successfully machetes the snake and he skins it for dinner. Actually, it's not that big at all, but Mike is willing to eat anything, as he proved with the scorpion situation. Rodney is hesitant, but he wants protein. It seems that the hatchet has been buried between Rodney and Mike. That's nice! Major cluck-up.
