The digital and VOD distributor has acquired North American rights to Robin Williams’ final film.
Starz Digital plans to open Boulevard in New York and other major markets on July 7. Inception media Group represents international sales.
Dito Montiel directed from a screenplay by Douglas Soesbe about a gay man in a convenient marriage whose life changes when he picks up a young male hustler.
Kathy Baker, Bob Odenkirk and Roberto Aguire also star. Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso, Ryan Belenzon, Mia Chang and Jeffery Gelber produced Boulevard.
“Boulevard is a complex, life-affirming and surprising film and Robin’s final performance is absolutely remarkable,” said Kevin Kasha, head of acquisitions for Starz. “We are honoured to be able to share Dito’s beautiful film with audiences this summer.”
Preferred Content and Wme represented the filmmakers in the deal.

We tend to look for patterns, trends and whatnot with our annual predictions. In Dito Montiel’s case, it would appear that he shows up at the fest with odd numbered films in his filmography. Sundance embraced the filmmaker-musician-author with open arms back on 2006 with the double Sundance winner totally engrossing dramatic book to film translation of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. His third film, The Son of No One (which is sandwiched by Fighting (’09) and 2013′s Empire State) received the closing night honors of the fest back in 2011. For Boulevard (film number five), Montiel reteams with his longtime editor Jake Pushinsky and landed Park Chan-wook’s cinematographer Chung-hoon Chung. Shot in Nashville, Robin Williams toplines the drama which wrapped in mid July. Feast your eyes on our exclusive first look below.

Here’s one quick casting news – Robin Williams has joined the cast of Dito Montiel‘s (yes, Montiel is man who stands behind that crime pic Empire State with Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth in the leading roles) upcoming project titled Boulevard. The movie, described as an intimate drama about marriage and lies, already stars Roberto Aguire.
So, at this moment we know that Dito Montiel will direct Boulevard from a script written by Doulgas Soesbe, and that the story will center on a devoted husband in a marriage of convenience whose run-in with a guarded young man forces him to come to terms with his own secrets.
Not hard to guess that Williams is on board to star as that devoted husband, while Aguire will play the young man named Leo.
