Oscar-winning cinematographer and long-time Steven Spielberg collaborator Janusz Kaminski has boarded a new short documentary examining the Ukrainian refugee crisis as executive producer.
Ukrayintsi u Vyhnanni (Ukrainians in Exile) comes from director Janek Ambros and was shot in March in the Polish city of Przemysl. Due to its location near the Ukrainian border, Premzsyl became the starting point for hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in February. In March, it was reported that up to 50,000 refugees were arriving in the city each day.
Rather than interviewing refugees who fled, the short doc visually depicts the crisis on the border, but is narrated by an anonymous woman, still residing in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. She speaks in Ukrainian of her experiences and contemplates those who were forced to leave and whether or not other countries will embrace her fellow Ukrainians.

Exclusive: Freestyle Digital Media has acquired North American rights to to the Batman-themed feature documentary Batman and Me, from director Michael Wayne. The digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios plans to release it across VOD platforms on March 8.
The film examines the life of Batman collector Darren “Dags” Maxwell, who became addicted to collecting Dark Knight merchandise in Australia in the late 1980s, as a way to be a part of nascent geek culture. Decades later, Maxwell’s stuck with a room full of collectables—a membership card to a fandom he no longer recognizes—yet powerful forces beyond his control mean he’s unable to let go. The film written by Wayne, Andrew Martyn and Rebecca Richardson is a sobering look at the highs and lows of obsessive collecting in an increasingly pop culture-centric world, and the price of admission to fandom.

“Frances Perkins” will follow two simultaneous stories of the American workers-rights activist; her early years fighting for labor, and her fierce, tactical struggle to pass the largest economic legislation in American history as Fdr’s Secretary of Labor.
Ambros spoke about the upcoming project, saying, “While the focus is on the character study on Perkins and her strategic tactics to pass massive legislation, it’s equally about the limitations that a person...
