- Dakota has two sisters. The older is a professional model and the younger is an amateur hockey player.
- Dakota often plays abused or troubled protagonist teenagers with dark pasts, but ironically, he is known for his work as the antagonistic Nazi Youth Leader in "Falling Skies".

- Dakota Daulby and Matthew MacCaull have played brothers twice - once in the horror thriller "Black Fly" and again in the superhero film noir "Roar". Each were nominated in the 2015 Leo Awards for Best Male Lead for their work in both films.
- Dyed his hair for the first time for the role of Jake Henson in the horror thriller "Black Fly".
- Dakota helped develop the Phrike Film Festival, which is a Vancouver based 72 hour horror competition. In 2014, Dakota was announced as the official spokesperson and MC of the festival. His good friend and "Falling Skies" cast-mate Doug Jones was an official judge of the festival.
