Sheila Glass
- Actress
Sheila McGurk was born in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, to an English mother, Doris (Skelton), from Middlesbrough, and Edward McGurk, an Irishman from County Tyrone. She attended St Anthony's Catholic School in Middlesbrough and, later, Kirby College.
She emigrated to New York on her own, aged 19, working as a children's nanny and also at a hospital. She met her now deceased husband a former Naval Officer, George Robert Glass. They had two children, Caroline (who followed her mother's footsteps into the Arts) and Paul Glass, a former Navy Submariner, who followed in his father's footsteps.
After George Glass's death, Sheila got into acting. Her daughter entered her into a TV commercial competition to boost her morale. A natural in front of the camera, she signed up with casting agencies and hasn't stopped working since.
