Steven Knight has said he hopes Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, the dance theatre spin-off of his hit TV show, will travel stateside after it closes on the stage in Birmingham, England.
“After it closes in the UK in Birmingham we’re hoping it moves onto New York and then Boston because the show has massive international appeal, so I think this one can travel,” Knight told the BBC’s Radio 4 on Tuesday morning.
The stage show opened earlier this month in Birmingham, the English city where the original TV show is set. Speaking with Radio 4, Knight said he doesn’t believe the show could have started life in any other city.
“Birmingham has been a big, proud city for hundreds of years. I think there’s been a gap in its media image and presence. And I hope Peaky is the first of many things that will give the city an identity,...

The long-gestating Peaky Blinders feature film spin-off is to film at writer Steven Knight’s studios in Birmingham.
Speaking to British radio station Heart FM, Knight also confirmed he was close to completing the script for the film, which will follow on from the final sixth season that dropped earlier this year. The film has long been in the works, and shooting should begin “within 18 months,” he added, which is in line with previous estimations.
“We’re going to shoot it at the studios in Digbeth, and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham,” he said this morning. “Digbeth and Small Heath [are] where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed, so it’s like Peaky’s coming home.”
Knight confirmed the show, which stars the likes of Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson and Tom Hardy, will see many of the Caryn Mandabach-produced series’ cast return, but added he was planning for “some new...

It had the vibe of a campaign event, even if it wasn’t one.
A few hundred of America’s highest-profile liberal politicians, academics and journalists, many of them old friends — a “progressive Bar Mitzvah,” as one friend jokingly put it — met on a crisp Thursday night in late November in Burlington, Vermont, at an event hosted by Jane Sanders.
The wife of the Vermont Senator shows an excitement, even ebullience, about the possibilities of politics that her relentlessly on-message husband often does not. Jane beamed as the likes of...
