What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes

Exclusive: BBC News is gearing up to hire its first royal editor, with potential candidates emerging as the broadcaster looks to capitalize on soaring audience interest in the British monarchy.
BBC News has traditionally appointed royal correspondents, but the corporation has decided to elevate the role after Nicholas Witchell, a 25-year veteran of the beat, announced he will retire in 2024.
Insiders believe that it will be the first time in the corporation’s history it has installed a royal editor. Jean Seaton, the BBC’s official historian, was unaware of the broadcaster previously having the position.
Recruitment is expected to begin early next year, with the chosen candidate taking their place alongside household names including political editor Chris Mason and international editor Jeremy Bowen.
Speculation is already mounting over who may land the post, which will catapult a journalist into the heart of BBC coverage of key national moments including royal events and deaths.

The Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve) started filming last November, then underwent quite a shake-up earlier this year when the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck (who executive produced and directed all five episodes of the HBO limited series Chernobyl) decided to leave the project over creative issues, then Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) – who had been cast as one of the show’s lead characters – followed him out the door. Now IGN reports that Dune: The Sisterhood has gone through another change, but this one much less drastic than having to start over with a different director and star. This one is simply a title change. Dune: The Sisterhood is now going by the title Dune: Prophecy. IGN also reports that the show is expected to start streaming in the...

Donald Trump’s former aid Sebastian Gorka gave short shrift to the BBC’s political editor this week, eventually asking him, “Do you not speak English?”
In an increasingly terse exchange during the BBC’s flagship early morning current affairs Today Programme on radio, Gorka accused the BBC’s Chris Mason of “putting words in his mouth” and not listening to what he had said.
Gorka, who worked for Donald Trump in the White House between January and August of 2017, was defending his former boss following charges against Trump of attempting to overturn the 2020 US election. After Mason suggested that “no one should be above the law”, Gorka grew more agitated.
“Why are you putting words in my mouth? I’m talking about the absolute opposite. Do you not speak English? I’m talking about equality before the law. Did you not listen to what I said? President Trump hasn’t committed a crime,...

Exclusive: Max’s Dune prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood is set to relaunch production in Budapest “any day now” and will continue throughout the course of the WGA and SAG strikes, a source close to the show tells Deadline.
The series thus takes the path of House of the Dragon and Industry, given that, like those HBO titles, which we reported on earlier in the day, The Sisterhood is an Equity contract production with some from SAG-AFTRA also in the mix. And per guidance from the actors guild stateside, members working under Equity contracts are to “continue to report.”
The Sisterhood resumes production following a November launch, leading into a hiatus that always was planned, our source tells us, to get around winter conditions in Hungary. The show also notably lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner) and stars Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year,...

The HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (which is a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve) is having a rough ride on its way to the screen. First, the show lost showrunner Jon Spaihts (co-writer of the first Dune film) – and when he stepped away from the show it was said that he would be focusing on working on the screenplay for Dune: Part 2 with Villeneuve instead. The Hollywood Reporter’s sources also informed them that Spaihts had turned in one script and a revised outline for Dune: The Sisterhood, and the producers at Legendary weren’t happy with his work. So the decision was made that he was better off sticking with the features. Spaihts was replaced by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker… and then Ademu-John stepped down as well, leaving Schapker as the sole showrunner. Villeneuve had been planning to direct the first two episodes of the series,...

Much like how the original "Dune" novel was seemingly cursed to never make it to the screen, its prequel series may be developing the same notoriety. That's because "Dune: The Sisterhood," the prequel series to Denis Villeneuve's 2021 epic, has lost a significant number of creative talent as it undergoes an alleged overhaul. Deadline exclusively reported that star Shirley Henderson, who was slated to play Tula Harkonnen, has left the project alongside creator and co-showrunner Diane Ademu-John and director Johan Renck.
As of right now, there isn't one precise reason that can be traced to these exits. However, it does appear as if these exits were done separately on each party's accord. In a statement sent to Deadline, HBO Max implied that at least Renck's departure was on amicable terms, conflicting with the trade's sources that imply creative differences forced the director out. This could be the same reasoning behind the departure of Ademu-John,...

HBO Max’s return to Arrakis is taking a bit of a setback. The “Dune” prequel series has lost both its director and one of its stars, IndieWire has confirmed. This news does not in any way affect the release of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” this fall.
Johan Renck, who was set to direct the first two episodes of the show, and Shirley Henderson, who was set to play one of the leads, have both exited the series following the beginning of production in November. Production on the series, currently under the working title “Dune: The Sisterhood,” has reportedly been put on hold until replacements for both are found. A statement from HBO Max attributed the change to an “effort to create the best series possible.”

The cast of HBO Max‘s Dune spinoff series, Dune: The Sisterhood, continues to grow as Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, and Chris Mason join the ensemble as production begins in Budapest. Unlike the blockbuster Denis Villeneuve film based on Frank Herbert’s novel, which is currently filming the sequel, Dune: Part Two — the series is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) ascends to power. Instead, it follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combine powers to take down humankind, establishing the mythical cult known as Bene Gesserit. (Credit: Jeff Spicer/Getty Images for BFI; Emma McIntyre/Getty Images) Strong, Anouka, and Mason join the ever-expanding cast, which already includes Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and Shirley Henderson (Happy Valley) as the powerful sister duo Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, Indira Varma as Empress Natalya, and Travis Fimmel as charismatic soldier Desmond Hart. M People founder Mike Pickering has condemned prime minister Liz Truss’s use of his band’s hit song “Moving On Up” at the Conservative Party conference.
Truss walked onstage to the sound of the 1993 dance-pop track, as she delivered her Conservative Party conference speech in Birmingham on Wednesday (5 October).
Many people watching the speech immediately pointed out both the irony of the song’s lyrics, as well as the fact that singer Heather Small’s son is a Labour councillor.
“So apparently we can’t stop Truss walking out to our song, very weird!” Pickering wrote on Twitter. “So sad it got used by this shower of a government. [By the way] Truss, Labour used it with permission in Nineties. I don’t want my song being a soundtrack to lies.”

FBI: Most Wanted had an awkward start for Season 4.
The anticipated Season 4 premiere featured the first meeting of Barnes and Remy Scott that came amid a dangerous case.
It brought up the troubling real-life crimes that occur as the team tried to head off another tragedy.
The storyline had major tension between Barnes and Remy as it was clear Barnes was having trouble adjusting to a new team leader.
Meanwhile, Remy also had to handle a complex family dynamic with his mentally-addled mother, which was an unwanted distraction.
It added up to Iron Pipeline being a solid opening for a new season of thrills on FBI: Most Wanted.

Dino Sofos might not be a household name in the same vein as Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart lecturer Emily Maitlis or former BBC North America Editor Jon Sopel, but he has had a mighty impact on the British broadcasting news landscape of late.
The creator of the hugely-popular Brexitcast, Americast and Newscast BBC Sounds podcast franchise exited the BBC after 15 years last November to set up his own production outfit, Persephonica, with Tom O’Hara, and has since had a hand in tempting BBC lifers Maitlis and Sopel away from the corporation, amidst a wider talent exodus that has left Broadcasting House bosses nervous.
Along with another ex-bbc heavyweight, Policy Editor Lewis Goodall, Persephonica is gearing up for the launch of Global podcast The News Agents, a daily audio show “holding power to account without fear or favor,” according to Sofos, who speaks to Deadline in the weeks before the launch.

Following the news Johnson is resigning, schedules are being uprooted as news teams provide minute-by-minute reports on the fast-moving events and offer what insight they can. Brexitcast co-host Chris Mason, who has been a BBC News Political Correspondent for the past decade, has been promoted to become Laura Kuenssberg’s replacement as BBC News Political Editor.
The role is arguably the most important and challenging across the British news landscape and Kuenssberg is stepping down after five years to replace Andrew Marr by hosting a Sunday morning talk show. BBC News heavyweights Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel are also leaving.
The highly-regarded Mason, who was always positioned as one of the frontrunners for the role, has been reporting from UK parliament during the last 10 years as BBC News Political Correspondent.
He has presented BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions? for three years, was co-host of popular BBC Sounds podcast Brexitcast and regularly appears on its successor Newscast.
“Chris has been an exceptional correspondent at an extraordinary time in British politics,” said BBC News Interim Director Jonathan Munro.

‘Riverdale’ Flashes Forward to a Grim Future of Broken Hearts and Dreams, as Was Probably Inevitable
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Purgatorio,” the fourth episode of Season 5 of The CW’s “Riverdale.”
The most consistent feature of “Glee” throughout its seven seasons was a hyper speed recap of previous events that played at the beginning of every episode. Every week, the list of “what you missed on ‘Glee’!” got longer and more headspinningly ridiculous as the show itself became more overtly bizarre. If you missed a single chapter, it seemed you might lose track of what was happening on the show entirely. And if you decided to drop back in after a couple seasons away … well, forget it. In fact, “Glee” became so notoriously over the top that now, six years after its series finale, there’s a thriving subgenre of TikToks devoted to people reacting to its wild plot twists.

Riverdale‘s long-awaited time jump is finally here, and Wednesday’s episode found our characters older… but not a whole lot happier.
We pick up seven years later, with Archie and his friends scattered around the country and doing varying levels of #adulting before coming back to their old booth at Pop’s for an uneasy reunion. TVLine chatted with executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa about what’s next for the gang… and how worried we should be about that trucker we glimpsed at the very end. But first, let’s check in on where everybody is after the time jump:...

Riverdale reinvents itself as the fifth season properly gets underway.
This Riverdale review contains spoilers.
Riverdale Season 5 Episode 4
“To be honest, it doesn’t even feel like Riverdale anymore.”
You can say that again Archie.
Following three episodes originally intended for last year and a seven-year time jump, Riverdale‘s fifth season gets well and truly underway with an installment designed not so much with shaking up the status quo but reinventing it completely. To borrow the name of a Flaming Lips song — you just know NYC writer’s block-stricken Jughead listens to lots of the band’s output — suddenly everything has changed.
In the near decade since he was last home, Archie has been through hell fighting in an unnamed conflict in which he feels responsible for one of his fellow soldiers losing a leg. He has dreams that mix battle imagery with the formally idyllic existence he had in high school.

Riverdale is growing up fast — seven years in a week, to be exact.
The CW drama kicks off a seven-year time jump with this Wednesday’s episode (8/7c), with Archie and his old high school friends coming back to Riverdale as adults after years apart. “It is really fun to start with a semi-fresh slate,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa admits to TVLine. “Our plotting on the show can, as the fans know, get pretty baroque and intricate, and there is a lot of baggage and history that comes with the stories we told. We thought that there was something really exciting...

“Riverdale” brought the high-school years of Archie and the gang to an end on Wednesday’s episode, with The CW drama set to jump seven years into the future next week. And when the characters get there, they’re going to be a little different than when we last saw them. Take Veronica, who based on a sneak peek shared by actress Camila Mendes on Thursday’s “Tonight Show,” has an impressive career on Wall Street. Well, she did until her husband, Chad Gekko (Chris Mason), decided she needed a break.
“It’s 2021, Chad, haven’t you heard? Women can have it all now,” Veronica says in the clip, which starts in the video above.
“I just don’t want you to be unduly stressed,” he replies.
“I’m not stressed. Actually, I miss being on the trading floor with you. I miss all that adrenaline,” she says, sipping her wine.

Riverdale is headed to the future.
The beloved CW drama is taking to the future just a few episodes into Riverdale Season 5.
Kj Apa, who plays Archie Andrews, is shedding light on what Archie will be up to when the seven-year time jump occurs.
In a new interview with TV Line, the actor revealed that the character would be seen having gone "their separate ways" after high school.
"Archie enlisted in the Army after graduation, and when he returns, after all that time in the Army, he discovers the town is on the verge of becoming a ghost town, thanks to Hiram," he told the outlet ahead of the premiere.
But that doesn't mean Archie will not reunite with his high school friends.
"He came back and saw Riverdale turning to s**t pretty much, and he's like, 'There's no way I'm going to let this happen.' So he wrangles the whole team in,...

Riverdale's fifth season hits our screens this month, and the cast list is looking better and better. The latest season sees a jump into the future by seven years and aims to tie up a number of unfinished storylines from season four. About time! One of the key differences between Riverdale's past and present is that Veronica Lodge (played by Camila Mendes) has a husband, and he's a familiar face.

That's Mrs. Veronica Lodge to you. Or maybe Veronica Gekko? Riverdale's time jump is causing some major changes on the CW drama, including the fact that Veronica (Camila Mendes) is married, and it's not to Archie (Kj Apa). Chris Mason, known for Broadchurch and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists has been cast as Chad Gekko, adult Veronica's Wall Street husband. Unfortunately for Veronica, it sounds like her husband sucks. Chad is described by Deadline and EW as an Alpha Dog who is threatened by Veronica's life in Riverdale and her friendship with Archie and is very controlling and jealous. We hate Chad already! When last we saw Veronica, she was still...

“Riverdale” is expanding its cast for Season 5, bringing in “Broadchurch” actor Chris Mason to play Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) “controlling and jealous” husband after the show’s upcoming seven-year time jump.
Per The CW, Mason will play Chad Gekko, Veronica’s (Camila Mendes) controlling and jealous husband who works on Wall Street. He’s described as “an Alpha dog,” who is threatened by Veronica’s life in Riverdale, especially her friendship with Archie (Kj Apa).
Chad will be introduced in Episode 4 of “Riverdale’s” fifth season, which airs Wednesday, Feb. 10. That hour will feature the much-anticipated time jump that series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the cast have been talking about since Season 4 wrapped prematurely due to the pandemic.
When we last left, Archie and the gang were at the end of their senior year at Riverdale High. When the series returns in Jan. 20, we’ll find out how the high...

When the beloved CW drama returns later this month, Veronica will be a teenager and finishing out her final days at Riverdale High.
When Riverdale Season 5 Episode 4 airs, however, we will be seven years in the future, and Veronica will be living in New York and married.
Deadline is reporting that Pll: The Perfectionists alum Chris Mason is joining the cast as Veronica's "controlling and jealous husband who works on Wall Street. An Alpha dog, Chad is threatened by Veronica’s life in Riverdale, especially her friendship with Archie (Kj Apa)."

Before Dirty John, the Netflix dramatisation, came Dirty John the wildly popular LA Times podcast featuring the real voices of Debra Newell and her family and hosted by award winning journalist Christopher Goffrey. The podcast has been downloaded over 50 million times and while the Netflix version starring Connie Britton and Eric Bana had a glossy, trashy appeal it couldn’t live up to the podcast both for being not actually real, and also too tethered to the real, never quite being able to reach the full on bonkersness of fiction series like You.
Dirty John was the nickname of John Meehan, the confidence trickster at the centre of the original case and while at first it was hard to imagine how a season two would be possible, Meehan’s story having been concluded, the show has expanded its remit so it can serialise and dramatise other true crime cases with...

Lifetime was always keen for its Surviving Jeffrey Epstein docu-series, which looks at the case of the convicted felon through the eyes of the victims, to air around the one year anniversary of his death.
What the network and the filmmakers, Anne Sundberg and Ricki Stern, didn’t expect was that his alleged co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell would be arrested a month before its premiere.
This forced the team, which included producers Bungalow Media + Entertainment, to refocus the fourth hour of the series, which will air across two nights on August 9 and 10, to include the latest developments.
“It was crazy timing as we were coming to the finish line as the arrest happened. We had a different form of conclusion,” said Sundberg. “This story is not over.”

ABC is making some big decisions about the future of some of its pilots.
The network has passed on the Revenge reboot, Thirtysomething sequel, The Brides, and Valley Trash.
Ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic forcing production to halt on all scripted series in the U.S., the Thirtysomething(else) was considered a shoo-in on the network's 2020-21 schedule.
The potential series first entered development earlier this year, with ABC later ordering a pilot presentation.
Here's the official logline:
Apparently, raising children -- even grown children -- never ends, but who could have known how hard it would be for them to raise their parents?
Reboot of the 1987-91 series 'Thirtysomething,' with emphasis on the original cast's children -- the new generation of thirtysomethings.
Returning original cast members include Ken Olin (Michael Steadman), Mel Harris (Hope Murdoch), Timothy Busfield (Elliot Weston), and Patty Wettig (Nancy Weston).

Unlike the story of con man John Meehan and the last woman he manipulated before her youngest daughter ultimately killed him in 2016, which was the basis for the first season of “Dirty John,” the subject of Season 2 may be a distant memory to some viewers. Charlie McElveen (The Deuce) is set as a series regular opposite Katherine Reis, Gina Torres and Erin Richards in The Brides, ABC’s Brides of Dracula drama pilot from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television. Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Maggie Kiley, The Brides, a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart — Cleo (Torres), Renée (Richards), and Lily (Reis). The weird sisters of Bram Stoker’s Dracula are doing it for themselves. Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who brought the devil out of Riverdale to spawn Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, are shooting pilot for The Brides for ABC.
The project goes back to 2015, when NBC put in an order for a script. For ABC’s desanguinated re-incarnation, the script will be written by Aguirre-Sacasa, who will executive produce alongside Berlanti and his head of production company, Sarah Schechter. This new series promises to move “stronger into horror and sexuality as it reimagines the classic vampire characters.” The pilot will be directed by Maggie Kiley. ABC Studios and Warner Bros. Television will coproduce the series.
The project was announced back in January. The Brides is technically ABC’s first pilot order of the 2020-21 broadcast season. It is the first shot across the bow for Karey Burke, who as ABC’s...
