For now, we may have Robert Pattinson as our newest iteration of Bruce Wayne aka Batman, but it wasn’t the first time the character has been given a dark, gritty reboot. That honor is held by Christopher Nolan’s 2005 film Batman Begins, which singlehandedly saved the franchise from its rubber-nipple-induced isolation brought on by Batman & Robin. Then in 2008, superhero movies were radically changed forever with the gargantuan release of The Dark Knight, which took the goodwill earned by Begins and pushed the envelope in every conceivable way.
After delivering one of the best films of all time featuring an Academy Award-winning portrayal of the Joker by Heath Ledger, Nolan was faced with the truly impossible challenge to top The Dark Knight and complete the journey of Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne. This brings us to the release of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, a hugely ambitious and satisfying wrap-up...

It’s safe to say that since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars from Lucasfilm, the road toward producing a series of Star Wars films that would appeal to generations old and young has been bumpy. Tales of behind-the-scenes turmoil plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the most infamous project remains Lord and Miller’s Solo. The film, which was to be a Han Solo origin tale, was to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, two talented directors famed for their 21 Jump Street reboots and their creative animated films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Lego Movie. Lifelong Star Wars fans, they seemed like the ideal choices to helm the film, but the two were shockingly fired from the movie after four and a half months of shooting.
Why were Lord and Miller fired from Solo? The rumour was that their...

In 2018, actor John Krasinski showed the world his directing chops with the release of A Quiet Place. A horror film revolving around a family in a post-apocalyptic America that has been taken over by monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing. Krasinski enlisted his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, to play the pregnant mother of the family along with, in an inspired piece of casting, deaf actress Millicent Simmonds to play the family’s deaf daughter. After a buzzy marketing campaign, the film was released to massive critical and commercial success. This was quite a shock for the vast majority, as most didn’t think Jim from The Office would have such a masterful command over this genre! He had some directing experience under his belt with a few episodes of The Office and a little-seen film called The Hollars, but nothing to suggest he would be so adept at crafting a big-budget horror smash hit.

With the triumphant return of Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion, there is no better time to look back at the actor’s long tenure as Agent 007, aka super-suave spy James Bond. His license to kill lasted for five films over the course of fifteen years, the longest time any Bond actor has held onto the title. Now that the dust has settled on his run, we are left with some clear favorites, along with some controversial and lesser-loved films, particularly Craig’s second and fourth outings – Quantum of Solace and Spectre.
Both films had their own unique troubles getting to the silver screen. For Quantum, it was a writer’s strike that left the producers charging towards a set release date without a finished script. For Spectre, it was a reluctant director Sam Mendes returning, after already stating he wasn’t, a knee injury for Craig which...

The pantheon of great Christmas movies was changed forever in 1990 with the release of the seminal film, Home Alone. Written By John Hughes, Directed by Chris Columbus, and scored by John Williams, the talent behind the camera is just legendary. And, in front of the screen, you have child actor Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, who is the undeniable centre of the film—an impressive feat for a 10-year-old!
He’s surrounded by an all-star cast including, Catherine O’Hera and John Heard as Kevin’s parents, and Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as the iconic buglers the Wet Bandits! The film captured audiences and critics alike who fell for the lovable Kevin and the lengths he goes to, to protect his home. Not only was it well received by audiences and critics alike, the film would go on to make 476.7 million worldwide!

If you’re a hardcore Quentin Tarantino fan, you’ll know that Michael Madsen’s sadistic Vic Vega in Reservoir Dogs and John Travolta’s Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction are brothers. Despite both characters dying in their respective films, Quentin Tarantino toyed with the idea of spinning the characters off into a prequel movie for many years. Eventually, Travolta and Madsen likely aged out of the idea, given that they would have had to convincingly play younger than they did in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Still, the notion of a Vega Brothers movie is interesting.

Ford v Ferrari was a surprise hit in the fall of 2019. At the time, many assumed that big-budget, adult-skewing dramas were bound to underperform, but James Mangold’s film rode a way of outstanding reviews and good buzz to a hefty 225 million worldwide gross. It earned a best picture Academy Award nomination, and has become a streaming staple, paving the way for Mangold to be chosen as Steven Spielberg’s successor for Indiana Jones 5.
The film is based on the 1966 Le Mans race where Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) attempt to build a car that will take out the dominant Italian racing team, Ferrari. It’s a story filled with triumph and tragedy that seems reverse engineered to be a Hollywood epic, but how close is it to what really happened at the ’66 Le Mans? In this episode of Wtf Really Happened to this Movie,...

Zack Snyder’s Watchman was relatively well-received by fans and overall was a box office success. Devoted to making a faithful adaptation of the Alan Moore/ Dave Gibbons graphic novel, the fact that Snyder’s Watchmen film got made on the scale it did is a miracle. However, several other versions of Watchmen were in the works before Snyder got involved, with several coming close to being made. In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Unmade Movie, we dig into versions that almost got made involving folks such as Terry Gilliam, David Hayter (who filmed a demo reel with Ray Stevenson and Rorschach and Iain Glen as Nite Owl), Darren Aronofsky and Paul Greengrass. Suppose any of these versions had gotten made. In that case, we might have gotten someone like Paddy Considine as Rorschach, Joaquin Phoenix as Nite Owl, and possibly even Tom Cruise as Ozymandias (in which...

When it comes to the all-time craziest and most unbelievable true stories ever committed to celluloid, Sidney Lumet’s Dog Day Afternoon tops the list. Ripped right from the headlines, the stranger-than-fiction true-crime story about three men attempting to rob a bank during broad daylight in the dead of summer in New York – only to become a grueling 14-hour hostage situation and high-profile media circus – will forever live in infamy due to how incredibly outlandish the details are. While the names of the primary players have been changed for the big-screen adaption, and while many fascinating tidbits about the case were slightly altered or omitted from the final film, the overwhelming majority of what transpires in Dog Day Afternoon really happened on one sweltering summer day in August 1972. Come closer y’all, it’s time to separate the wheat from the chaff and find out What The F*ck Really Happened to Dog Day Afternoon!

It’s a brave new world for musicians, and even the biggest ones in the business have to figure out in a hurry how to navigate a path that’s suddenly much narrower.
This week, Taylor Swift announced that she was canceling live appearance for the rest of the year. That included two big opening night concerts for L.A’s SoFi Stadium.

With some predicting that the concert and club industry is out of business until 2021, musicians – most of whom rely on touring and merchandise sales as a solid block of income – will be stuck at home, and stuck without a substantial portion of their income.

(Big spoilers ahead for the April 12 episode of HBO’s “Westworld”)
“Westworld” has not traditionally been the sort of show in which random coincidences happen. Everything that happens, generally, is somebody’s plan. So the idea that Caleb (Aaron Paul) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) met purely by chance and Dolores just happened to like him enough to let him join her revolution, well, just kinda seems like a bit of a stretch.
But we never got any kind of indication that their meeting was anything other than just a random thing. Though this week’s episode, the fifth of “Westworld” season 3, throws a wrinkle into Caleb’s whole story that could indicate a reason why Dolores hooked him: that maybe, just maybe, he’s got a secret identity that he doesn’t even know about.
Now, I don’t think that “Westworld” showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy would...
