Brent Smith was sitting in a slow-moving line of ATVs and golf carts at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in September when he saw them start to assemble. Thousands of fans — a growing sea of humanity — were slowly recognizing the lead singer of Shinedown as he, members of Papa Roach, and viral country singer Oliver Anthony all motored into a nearby field in search of a stage.
The festival, held at a remote raceway in Alton, Virginia, had just been called off early by promoters citing bad weather, and Shinedown...

A clip of an elderly fan headbanging in the front row at a Shinedown concert has gone viral after being uploaded to TikTok by the band’s photographer.
Lauri Norris is the star of clip. Clearly a super fan, she’s wearing a shirt emblazoned with Shinedown album covers and was right up against the barricade for this particular show. It was here that photog Sanjay Parikh turned his attention from the band to the crowd, capturing an ecstatic moment from Norris.
As the band plays through their 2008 hit “Sound of Madness,” Norris is grooving right along, headbanging in time while she holds the barrier for support. She also knows all the words, shouting along to frontman Brent Smith’s lyrics.
The clip has now surpassed 6 million views on TikTok just one week after being posted, and over a million on Instagram, sending “Sound of Madness” — already a platinum single — back up to No.

Oliver Anthony, Papa Roach, and Shinedown unexpectedly linked up for a fully acoustic show — and a joint cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” — after the Blue Ridge Rock Festival was upended by severe weather.
Blue Ridge Rock was supposed to take place this weekend (Thursday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 10), but a deluge of rain, lightning, hail, and strong winds led to the cancellation of most of the festival. After the final two days were officially called off, Papa Roach, Shinedown, and Anthony decided to break out the acoustic guitars...

Founding guitarist Gary Rossington is featured in his final concert with Lynyrd Skynyrd in the new concert film, The 50th Anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The film will be in theaters next month for a one-week run starting on July 8. Rossington died on March 5 at his home in Milton, Georgia at 71. He was a songwriter on some of the group’s biggest hits, including its most memorable song, “Sweet Home Alabama,” which was later adopted as that state’s official song.
“We are excited to share this special night and celebrate 50 Years of Skynyrd music with the Skynyrd Nation and fans of these timeless songs,” singer Johnny Van Zant said in a statement. “We were fortunate to capture this special evening with Gary Rossington and Dale Krantz Rossington and all of the special guests that were able to join us on stage. It is certainly bittersweet because this was Gary’s last show,...

Earlier this year, Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin mentioned during a podcast that frontman Sully Erna once dated Lady Gaga. In a new interview, the rock singer confirmed he did have a brief relationship with the pop superstar, saying he “shared some great moments with her.”
Larkin’s revelation was a surprise to many, as Erna’s relationship with Gaga had not really been publicized. “I don’t think Sully would bum out if people knew he dated Lady Gaga,” Larkin said during his appearance on the 2020’d podcast. “I mean, she’s hot, and she’s mega talented.”
In a new interview with Revolver, Erna was asked about the Godsmack song “Under Your Scars,” which apparently was inspired by Erna’s relationship with Gaga, as well as Larkin’s recent comments.
“Listen, I really don’t have a lot to say on this topic,” responded Erna. “What I will tell...

ShortsTV is presenting The Game Changers: Oscar Winning Shorts That Shaped Hollywood, a virtual theatrical event spotlighting four Oscar-winning short films selected for their roles in “changing storytelling expectations in Hollywood.”
The pics selected are Bear Story (Best Animation 2016), God of Love (Best Live Action 2011), Curfew (Best Live Action 2013) and Six Shooter (Best Live Action 2006). The screenings will be preceded by introductions from ShortsTV founder and CEO Carter Pilcher, who will talk about the films’ impact.
“These four short films breathed new life into storytelling,” Pilcher said. “Bear Story was the first ever Chilean film to win an Academy Award, God of Love reignited a love for black-and-white films, Curfew combined a wide variety of storytelling techniques to tackle difficult topics in an ultimately heartwarming tale, and Six Shooter introduced film audiences to Martin McDonagh’s brand of macabre humor. Each one represents the power of a single short film.

For many dealing with drug and alcohol addictions, the coronavirus quarantine has had a crippling effect on the community and routines they have cultivated, from the shutdown of in-person 12-step programs to the inability to secure medications to the overall mental strain of isolation.
Longtime DJ, MTV VJ and In a Lonely Place podcast host Matt Pinfield, who has admittedly “struggled with alcoholism and addiction on-and-off for most of my adult life,” also experienced firsthand how the virus has impacted the recovery of so many. “I was reading about the uncounted casualties of Covid,...

After their late father won his third Grammy Award on Sunday night, Chris Cornell's two children took the stage during the nontelevised portion of the ceremony to accept the musician's posthumous award on his behalf. Cornell, who was previously the lead singer of bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, died by suicide in May 2017 at the age of 52. Sunday night saw him earning the Grammy for best rock performance for the song "When Bad Does Good," which was featured on an album of previously unreleased music that dropped over a year after his death.
"I never thought we'd be standing here without my dad, and I'm sure he would be proud and honored," Christopher Cornell, 13, said of his father. "He was known for many things. He is a rock icon, the godfather of grunge, and the creator of a movement whose contribution to music history made a lasting impact across genres and generations.

An American rock band, Shinedown hails from Jacksonville, Florida. The band was formed by lead vocalist Brent Smith in 2001. After a bit of trial and error, the band settled in with members Smith, Barry Kerch on drums, Zach Myers on guitar, and Eric Bass, as luck would have it, on bass. Smith and Kerch are original members, as were Jasin Todd and Brad Stewart, although they’re no longer with the band. Shinedown’s music, according to themselves is “rock ‘n’ roll”, but they’ve also been described as hard rock, alternative metal/rock, and post grunge. The band admits that each album
