Shelah Mincey
- Writer
- Director
- Producer
Born Feb. 1st, in a small town of Hammonton, NJ to a single mother and
the eldest of three, younger sister and brother. Shelah was into films
from a young child, with Rocky being the first movie that felt an
emotional connection to, the underdog story.
Later in the 80's Eddie Murphy became his favorite actor, with everything from Beverly Hills Cop I & II to 48 Hrs to Coming to America, including Raw and Delirious. But it wasn't until he watched Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" that turned his world upside down.
That film made films real to him in such a way that he wrote his first dramatic screenplay by hand in a notebook the summer of 1990. From there he went on to write a ROM-com screenplay first by hand then onto floppy disk, that was mid 90's.
In 1999, he moved to Durham, North Carolina and attended a digital filmmaking school in Raleigh where his instructor was Michael Zingale, who was a 2nd AD on the Robert DeNiro film, Taxi Driver. It was there that he wrote his first short film, The Product, which received high praise from Mr. Zingale.
Many years later, when Shelah moved back East he attempted to put a much longer version of The Product into production but it was not to be. So he shelved his writing and went on to work regular jobs although writing always nagged at him.
In 2009 he began writing again and in 2011 he went to Brooklyn, NY and directed his first drama "A Day at the Park." Later that year he packed up his family and drove two weeks from New Jersey to Los Angeles to pursue his goal of becoming a working writer in film and television.
In 2014, he's staying busy by connecting with actress/model/producer LaNease Adams to put his first L.A short film, "Beautiful Thorn," into production. A few more short films will follow and a possible web series.
His goal is to build his brand of entertainment and connect with some of the best in the business along with new talent.
