Stars: Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, Emile Hirsch, Vernon Wells, Erika Ervin, Tanner Zagarino | Written by Christopher Jolley | Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
The Price We Pay is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, from a script written by Christopher Jolley, and stars Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, Emile Hirsch, Vernon Wells, Erika Ervin, and Tanner Zagarino; and follows a group of robbers and their hostage finding out that the farmhouse they’ve taken refuge in is far from the haven they thought it would be, forcing them to survive the owners’ onslaught…
Kitamura once again returns to the well of threadbare activities in secluded locations. This time, Jolley takes the helmer’s film to a farmhouse, and that’s right about where the plot developments end. It’s a simple and heavily disappointing choice to focus on nothing. After a prologue showing a prostitute being dumped at a quiet gas station and kidnapped by an as-of-yet-unseen figure,...

The Price We Pay is a 2022 thriller movie with Stephen Dorff, Sabina Mach and Erika Ervin. It is directed by Ryûhei Kitamura and written by Christopher Jolley.
The Price We Pay is a movie that is a combination of horror and thriller. The cast should make it work, the idea is good too, the script… something else again. This is a movie that always resorts to simple easy things and finds shelter in clichés and exaggerations to offer us a movie that does not catch our attention because what it is after is precisely that and which it does excessively.
About the Movie
This is a B series movie with a Blockbusters spirit of those years and very little originality in some of its proposals. The Price We Pay starts in a gas station (ideal setting that is almost a genre in itself) and defines itself as a “dirty” horror movie,...

‘The Price We Pay’ Review: Emile Hirsch and Stephen Dorff Get a Grisly Surprise at an Isolated Ranch
Genre fans will get their money’s worth from “The Price We Pay,” a violent and grisly crime-horror-action outing with no pretensions of being anything else. What this tale of crooks holed up at a lonely farm with a hideous secret lacks in originality it makes up for with energetic direction by Ryuhei Kitamura (“Midnight Meat Train”), excellent practical gore effects and strong performances by a quality cast including Emile Hirsch, Stephen Dorff and Gigi Zumbado. The kind of no-nonsense exploitation film that once had ’em hootin’ at the grindhouse, VOD-available “Price” will be released on limited screens by Lionsgate on Jan. 13.
The bodies start piling up soon after Grace (Zumbado of “Bridge and Tunnel”) enters a pawn shop on the outskirts of a dusty town. Down on her luck and badly in debt to the shop’s sleazy owner, Grace hardly has time to fend off his advances before...

This year is already off to an incredible start for the horror genre, with M3GAN scaring up big time profits in theaters and “The Last of Us” getting set to elevate horror television on HBO.
Much like last week, this second week of 2023 is similarly home to several exciting new horror releases, including the return of Kevin Williamson plus the arrival of a viral horror indie.
Not to mention, this Friday is the first Friday the 13th of 2023!
Here’s all the new horror releasing January 10 – January 13, 2023…
First up, from Ryûhei Kitamura, the director of Midnight Meat Train, comes Lionsgate’s The Price We Pay, which just debuted on VOD this Tuesday and comes to select theaters Friday.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) star in The Price We Pay, which looks like a genre fusion of an action-thriller and a slasher movie all in one crazy package.

"Let's see how deep this rabbit hole goes…" Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for a grindhouse crime thriller titled The Price We Pay, a new film from Japanese genre director Ryûhei Kitamura (best known for Versus and The Midnight Meat Train). After playing at a few horror festivals earlier this year, the film will be out on VOD to watch in January if anyone is curious. After a pawn shop robbery goes askew, two criminals take refuge at a remote farmhouse to try to let the heat die down, but find something much more menacing. They discover a secret dungeon with sadistic violence—and when "Grandfather" comes home, all hell breaks loose. The film stars Stephen Dorff & Emile Hirsch, with Gigi Zumbado, Tyler Sanders, Erika Ervin, Jesse Kinser, Sabina Mach, Vernon Wells, and Tanner Zagarino. This seems like it borrows so many ideas from other, better horror films and mashes them into a forgettable,...

We’re just a few weeks away from having the chance to see a new horror film from director Ryûhei Kitamura, as Lionsgate will be giving Kitamura’s The Price We Pay a digital and VOD release on January 10th, as well as a limited theatrical release on January 13th. With those dates coming up fast, Lionsgate has unveiled a trailer for the film, which you can check out in the embed above.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Stephen Dorff (Blade), and Gigi Zumbado (Fantasy Island) star in The Price We Pay, and when we first heard about the movie last year it was said that Hirsch and Dorff would be playing two criminals who attempt to rob a local pawn shop. From Ryûhei Kitamura, the director of Midnight Meat Train, comes Lionsgate’s The Price We Pay, and Bloody Disgusting is debuting the bloody disgusting Red Band trailer today.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) star in The Price We Pay, which looks like a genre fusion of an action-thriller and a slasher movie all in one crazy package.
The film is rated R for “strong horror violence, gore and pervasive language,” and some of that madness is on display in the official Red Band trailer that you can watch below!
“After an intense holdup at a pawnshop, Grace is taken hostage by the thieves. Forced to take refuge at a remote farmhouse late at night, they discover a secret dungeon with evidence of sadistic violence—and when “Grandfather” comes home, all hell breaks loose. Can Grace muster the courage to escape the gut-wrenching fates that befall her criminal companions?...

Grimmfest, Manchester’s International Festival of Fantastic Film have announced the first wave titles for the 2022 festival – which will be returning to regular venue, The Odeon Great Northern, in Manchester on October 6th – 9th, for four high-impact, fear-filled days of the very best in genre cinema. Check out this opening barrage of international frights:
A young girl, struggling to awake from a coma, navigates the nightmare-freighted world of her own subconscious, in Ryan Stevens Harris’s astonishing steampunk gothic fairy tale, Moon Garden, which evokes the best of Jan Svankmajer and Terry Gilliam, Cronenberg and Clive Barker, for an emotionally charged, deeply personal narrative of redemption and renewal, that will enchant and haunt in equal measure. Grimmfest are thrilled to be hosting the film’s international premiere.
An international premiere, too, for Scott Slone’s whip-smart, genre-savvy reinvention of the perennially popular Paranormal Investigation Found Footage trope, Malibu Horror Story.

Six cast members from the eighth installment of FX’s “American Horror Story” — Sarah Paulson, Cody Fern, Frances Conroy, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and Adina Porter — recently appeared in front of a live audience of TV academy voters, journalists and fans at NeueHouse Hollywood to discuss all things “Apocalypse.” Don’t forget, this cycle of the frightening program will be eligible as a drama series at the 2019 Emmys, not a limited series, because it features returning characters and plot points from both “Coven” and “Murder House.”

Chimera Strain is an upcoming high-concept/low-budget sci-fi film about a mad scientist trying to save his children by editing their DNA. It comes from first time writer-director Maurice Haeems. I love a mad scientist story, and with all the controversy and philosophical dilemmas posed by Crispr, this movie seems to be very timely. Let’s hope that it lives up to its potential.
Here is the synopsis: “A brilliant but disturbed scientist named Quint (Henry Ian Cusick) freezes his own two children alive, while he races to cure their deadly genetic disease by decoding the DNA of the immortal Turritopsis jellyfish.”
The film also stars Kathleen Quinlan, Erika Ervin, Jenna Harrison, Karishma Ahluwalia, and Jennifer Gjulameti. Chimera Strain has played at a few film festivals and will be released in select theaters and on VOD by Vertical Entertainment on March 15. Are you going to check it out?...

"Will they be human?" "They will be superhuman!" Vertical Entertainment has debuted the first full trailer for a high concept, low budget sci-fi thriller titled Chimera Strain, the directorial debut of newcomer Maurice Haeems. This premiered at a few smaller film festivals last year, and is arriving on VOD this March. Henry Ian Cusick stars as a "brilliant but disturbed scientist" who decides to freeze his kids, in order to develop the cure their deadly genetic disease by decoding the DNA of the immortal Turritopsis jellyfish. It explores our fascination with immortality and all-consuming obsession with understanding our genetics. Also starring Kathleen Quinlan, Erika Ervin, Jenna Harrison, Karishma Ahluwalia, and Jennifer Gjulameti. This looks pretty cool, he's playing with some big ideas - I just hope it lives up to its potential. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Maurice Haeems' Chimera Strain, direct from YouTube: A brilliant but...

American Horror Story has a long history of using the same actors to play multiple characters across different seasons of the horror anthology series. The latest season, Apocalypse, is playing around with that convention by bringing back plenty of Ahs veterans to play new characters, like Sarah Paulson's Venable and Evan Peters's Gallant - but also to reprise their roles from previous seasons. When we got a glimpse at the Outpost's guard, we immediately recognized her. It's Erika Ervin, better known to Ahs aficionados as Amazon Eve from the Freak Show season!
Prior to her American Horror Story debut in 2014, Ervin was a model and personal trainer. Standing at 6' 7", she's the tallest professional model in the world (and was recognized as such by Guinness World Records in 2011). Although her height and fitness allowed her to break this record and to excel as a trainer,...

‘Medical horror’ is strange sub genre that could contain a wide range of movies. From The Fly to The Human Centipede trilogy to Frankenstein to Re-Animator. Each of those movies is very different but each of them also share some similarities with the latest movie in that list, Chimera.
Chimera follows one man, a father and scientist who wants to freeze his children alive in the hope that it will give him time to create a cure for the deadly disease they both have. Henry Ian Cusick plays the father, Quint, and he is a good actor to have you revolve your movie around. Known mainly for his TV work in Lost and The 100, Cusick puts in a strong, believable performance and he really does hold the film together.

American Horror Story Freak Show concludes with one of the season's better episodes, and - what else? - a grisly murder spree...
This review contains spoilers.
4.13 Curtain Call
The one thing you can say about this season of American Horror Story as a whole is that it doesn't lack teeth. There have been a lot of crazy things that happened this season with plenty of graphic violence, torture, serial killers, weird sex stuff... you know, the standard American Horror Story staples, just turned up to 11 with the addition of killer clowns, human oddities, and cover songs. With the end of this season of Ahs comes the end of a whole lot of characters we've spent time with this season in shockingly graphic, straightforward manner courtesy of one Dandy Mott.
At first, it looks like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Dandy has taken over, and he's got deep pockets.

"Asylum" > "Murder House" > "Coven" > "Freak Show" ... right?Last night, "American Horror Story" wrapped up its latest outing in another blood bath of a finale that left almost everyone in the cast six feet under. At this point, that's to be expected from Ryan Murphy's miniseries ... but why did this final episode seem like the most unsatisfying yet?Let's recap what happened ...Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock) took over the titular attraction after Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) sold it and moved to Hollywood, but none of the freaks loved their new boss. After our sexy little psycho berated them for not selling any tickets for his debut show -- where he planned to sing Cole Porter standards -- the freaks turned on him ... and quit!He didn't take that news too well and went on a truly chilling killing spree, offing everyone from Ima Wiggles to Amazon Eve with his golden gun.

It’s over. American Horror Story: Freak Show aired its final episode last night, and with it we say goodbye to Elsa Mars and her Cabinet of Curiosities. It’s been a bizarre season, to say the least. From Dandy’s psychotic tendencies to Chester (Neil Patrick Harris) and his creepy doll, Freak Show definitely wasn’t short of thrills. As for the finale? Well, there was a lot of death.
Dandy massacred everyone while Edward Mordrake returned to fuck shit up. We weren’t prepared for all of the killing that went down, so let’s break down the highlights from last night’s episode, appropriately titled “Curtain Call.”
The freaks quit on Dandy, so he literally shoots them all.
Dandy is now the owner of Elsa’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and his first order of business is to have the freaks hang up a giant banner advertising...

Step right up! Step right up! Here it is folks, the moment you've all been waiting for - the big finale to the greatest (or, at the very least, goriest) show on earth! That's right, "American Horror Story: Freak Show," the somewhat uneven fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's ingenious horror anthology, came to a close last night with an episode entitled "Curtain Call." It was a profoundly disturbing hour-and-17-minutes (hey, Ryan Murphy doesn't play by anyone's rules) but, in the series' constant need to shock and surprise, ended with a bittersweet tone that had us holding back tears. Yes, seriously. Shall we begin?
Dandy's Cabinet of Curiosities
After last week's episode ended with Elsa selling the freak show to that dastardly Dandy, it was anybody's guess as to how that would play out. And it did play out somewhat surprisingly - after Dandy complained about not selling enough tickets,...

As “Curtain Call” brought American Horror Story: Freak Show to a close, Dandy at last made his stage “debut,” and Elsa arrived in the one place in the world that might actually be weirder than her own Cabinet of Curiosities: Hollywood.
Here’s how it all fell apart and came together.
The Beginning Of The End | As the finale kicked off, Dandy was pitching a fit over the fact that, just like Penny predicted, audiences weren’t lining up to see a “rich Nancy sing show tunes.” And, in no time, he’d become so intolerable that he’d been decked by Amazon Eve,...

Armed with devilish charm, some leftover Hedwig lipstick and a ventriloquist’s dummy that just happened to be a dead ringer for American Horror Story semi-regular Jamie Brewer, Neil Patrick Harris made his eagerly anticipated debut in this week’s Freak Show.
And, before you could say abracadabra, not only had his magician character, Chester, taken the reins from Elsa (who still thought she was Hollywood-bound), he’d defrocked the Tattler Twins. But wait, there’s gore… er, more.

This episode turns American Horror Story into American Murder Mystery Story, but in a brilliant way.
After noticing the disappearance of Ma Petite, the freaks search for her in the surrounding woods. They find a box with the dress that she was wearing tattered. Jimmy and a guilt stricken Dell (who we know from the last episode killed her) were the ones to tell Elsa, who immediately became grief stricken. However, Ethel is not convinced and drunkenly confronts Elsa with a gun, and the two close friends let all their darkness unfold.
Elsewhere, Desiree rounds up Penny, Amazon Eve, and Legless Suzi in order to take revenge upon the oppressive men in their lives, starting with Penny’s dad.

America's favorite freak show took a breather over Thanksgiving, which was just long enough for the events of the seventh episode to get a little fuzzy. Don't remember what happened? This recap might help. Then again, it might not, because try as I might, it seems like a few important details slipped through the cracks in this episode.
Let's kick things off with some female trouble.
Die, Mommy, Die!
The whole freak/family metaphor is really being pounded home again and again. The last episode focused on bad daddies, so naturally this week is all about their mothers and mother figures. Gloria Mott (Frances Conroy) has started chain-smoking and seeing a shrink, but she's still trying to protect Dandy (Finn Wittrock) from outsiders and/or himself even though she knows the whole situation is all about to blow. Dandy isn't too pleased when he realizes that the nice doctor's inkblots...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including The Walking Dead, Jane the Virgin, Chicago Fire and How to Get Away With Murder!
1 | Has the absence of Once Upon a Time’s Ruby ever been more glaring than when Mary Margaret, David et al were tracking Emma? Is the mighty Sorcerer’s Hat’s “sucking” action not powerful enough to reach past a pair of doors? And what happened to Regina having exactly zero regrets, seeing as this life did bring her Henry?...

American Horror Story: Freak Show, Episode 7: “Test of Strength”
Written by Jessica Sharzer
Directed by Michael Uppendahl
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm Et on FX
Freak Show’s storytelling has frequently revolved around balancing character development between stories. Similar to Game of Thrones, the season has featured a variety of small plot arcs based on different characters and they’ve coalesced to make the mosaic that is the show. This week’s episode, “Test of Strength,” features Dell to a greater extent than the season has previously, and particularly his relationship with Jimmy. Unfortunately, his character is not nearly as interesting as others that the show has explored.
The episode’s title refers to the carnival strength game where the episode first shows Dell engaged in a verbal duel with Stanley. He lets Dell know that he knows about his fondness for the gay bar, and he threatens to share...

I love Amazon Eve. Hearing the backstory of the actress who plays her made me love her even more. When Dell walks into Amazon Eves trailer after Stanley threatens to out him I may have been a little upset. They cant kill Amazon Eve She cant be killed in her sleep by Dell This isnt how things were supposed to go What was I thinking Amazon Eve is not one to be taken lightly and quite frankly she kicks Dells ass throwing him out of her trailer saying Whos the strong man now I think I love her even more.

I was having tea with my friend Ben the other day and we were talking about American Horror Story, and he said that there are no great episodes, there are just two great scenes every episode that make you go, “Holy shit, I really love this show.” That is what makes you keep watching, waiting to get your next flash of greatness. And he’s absolutely right. That Ben is a really smart guy. For me this week, the best scenes were when Dell proved that, for a strongman, he is really ineffective at killing people. Getting absolutely drubbed by Amazon Eve was funny, but the best scene was the whole sequence where Dell and Jimmy are getting drunk in the bar, where Jimmy finally lets his guard down and talks about growing up in the freak show and how the moments he cherished the most are the ones where...

Another one bites the dust. In this week’s episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show, Dell flunked his “Test of Strength” by bumping off a fellow freak to keep his dirty little secret… well, you know, a secret. Who ended up on display at the American Morbidity Museum? Read on and find out!
Turnabout Is Fair Play | When last we saw Jimmy, he was about to rescue the Tattler twins from Dandy or — considering the killer’s foul mood — die trying. Gloria insisted, of course, that they’d never harm the sisters. After all, she noted, “We paid good money for these girls.

Tonight on TV, American Horror Story made us crazy sad, Arrow made us kinda mad, and Modern Family had us cracking up at turkeys. Needless to say, it was an emotional roller coaster of a night. Read all about it in our Rants and Raves! Rant: American Horror Story: Noooooo not Ma Petite! We thought she was safe after Maggie changed her mind last week, but then Dell had to go and hug her to death so Stanley wouldn't tell everyone about his sexuality. He first went after Amazon Eve, but she kicked his ass so spectacularly that he had to pick somebody else. He almost killed Jimmy, until Jimmy confronted him about being his father. He then decided to go for someone a little smaller, right after Jimmy had finished telling...

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" won't be back on until after Thanksgiving, but tonight's episode didn't feel very filling. Dandy's angry cry-face is pretty representative of the whole episode; there's lots of pouting and near-tantrums and Frances Conroy just needs to come in and regulate the whole damn mess.
Let's just get started, shall we?
That's Just Dandy
Dandy (Finn Wittrock) and Mrs. Mott (Frances Conroy) don't have a whole lot of screen time this week, which is fine because they're best in small doses. Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) shows up to collect the Tattler twins (Sarah Paulson), who have been dressed up like Alice in Wonderland. When Dandy reveals that he read Dot's diary and that she secretly wants to get surgically separated from Bette, it's not too hard for Jimmy to convince them both to leave Dandy and his fancy caviar behind. Jimmy also gets a big clue...

American Horror Story, and in particular this season's "Freak Show," has about as much forward progression as a treadmill. This week's episode trudged ahead with its story by the smallest margin possible that could still be labeled "forward". Miraculously, the episode somehow managed to contain four plotlines: Elsa, further displaying her ruthlessness to survive on her birthday of all days, reveals a dangerous new act for the Freak Show (after surely watching Theo James perform a similar routine in Divergent); Stanley exerts pressure on Maggie to murder the Freaks; Paul indulges in a secret romance with Penny as he juggles his illicit affair with Elsa; and Dandy attempts to woo Bette and Dot much to the chagrin of his mother.
Most Quotable: Elsa dismissing Penny’s entrance into her tent as she consoles a wounded Paul, “Speaking of cheap perfume.

In this week’s episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show, Stanley was determined to make a killing by selling Jimmy’s claws, Paul the Illustrated Seal got himself added to Elsa’s hit list, Ethel threatened to do away with Elsa, and Dandy aimed to make missuses of Dot and Bette. But who — if anyone — was struck in the titular “Bullseye” painted on them? Read on and find out!
Wheel Of Misfortune | As this installment began, birthday girl Elsa had her spinning wheel moved into the big tent and imagined throwing knives at half the freaks to practice for her TV show.

We're not quite halfway through the season of "American Horror Story: Freak Show," but things are starting to come together nicely. "Bullseye" is an especially satisfying episode because it offers a few juicy reveals that play off of each other and have already set certain events and revelations in motion, but not so many that we're overwhelmed. Relative to the non-stop craziness that Ryan Murphy et al packed into just one "Edward Mordake" episode, "Bullseye" has a little breathing room that lets us take in the different revelations and the themes that are gaining clarity.
Spoilers from here on out!

In the conclusion of American Horror Story: Freak Show’s Halloween two-parter, Edward Mordrake continued to audition candidates to join his “coterie of companions” and finally decided that one freak was indeed pure enough to be given a golden ticket to his shadowy netherworld. But, with Ethel already ruled out, would it be Paul the Illustrated Seal? Amazon Eve? Pepper?!? Or the performer you’d have least expected? Read on and find out.

It's hard to not feel a little disappointed in this week's episode of "American Horror Story: Freak Show" after last week's hour-and-a-half long season premiere, but not every day can be Halloween. (Okay, it can be, but it sure gets exhausting.)
Last week's extravaganza poured the foundation for the "Freak Show" world and introduced the major players, so it makes sense that "Massacres and Matinees" would take a step back to fill things out a bit and set various arcs in motion. It also handily sets up a number of rivalries and alliances that we'll see play out over the season (see below for a more detailed breakdown). Still, it can be a little trying to watch an episode that feels like it's just setting things up and giving us little tastes of what the writers are building towards. Although lots of stuff happens, watching this episode felt a little like treading water.

[Spoiler Alert If You Haven't Watched The Season Premiere Of American Horror Story: Freak Show!!!] Well, that was unlike any trip to the circus we've ever taken. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's American Horror Story: Freak Show made its highly anticipated debut with a huge episode that included an old-fashioned sex tape, a bearded lady, and a David Bowie musical number. For its biggest season yet, co-creator Murphy talked to EW for an epic postmortem interview that covers all the big twists (and, of course, Twisty) and clues to season five! Entertainment Weekly: Let’s start with the opening credits. They’re animated this year. What made you want to switch it up? Ryan Murphy...

"American Horror Story" has always been about one freak show or another; it's just that this season actually takes place in the sideshow. The characters and events from the previous seasons sound like a club that Stefon from "Saturday Night Live" would make up: a murder house with a ghost who wears a rubber suit; a former Nazi scientist who experiments on his patients in an asylum; a beautiful swamp witch who listens to Stevie Nicks and can bring the dead back to life; a Louisiana grand dame who used to torture and kill her slaves and bathe in their blood; a sexy collegiate Frankenstein; a tragic take on E. Jane Cochrane; a psycho psychiatrist with a taste for wearing human skin and drinking breast milk; and So. Much More.
It's breathtaking, invigorating, and utterly bananas. It's frankly insane that it's on a basic cable network. And I love it.

The premiere episode of "American Horror Story: Freak Show" is so good that it makes us wonder: Could this be the year the FX horror series finally wins the Emmy Award for Best Miniseries or Movie? From the opening scene of a milkman's discovery, we can already tell that this installment is darker and definitely scarier. We're introduced to Bette and Dot Tattler (a doubly brilliant Sarah Paulson) the two headed 'freak' who is being courted by Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) to join her dwindling local "Freak Show" act. But Elsa doesn't want Bette and Dot to join just because of their special circumstance, but because she has built a family of out-casters who she seems to genuinely care for. We meet Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) who has flipper/lobster hands with special skills, Ethel Darling (Kathy Bates) Jimmy's mother and Elsa's confidant, Ma Petite (Jyoti Amge) the world's smallest woman,...
