In a wholly original turn, writer-directors Craig Hinde and Marc Zammit spin out an atmospheric, but orthodox British horror into realms of multiverse-type mind expanding entanglement
After kicking off with an atmospheric but orthodox piece of hoary British witchfinder gothic, Witch takes a genuinely unexpected and ambitious swerve after 45 minutes; as if writer-directors Craig Hinde and Marc Zammit had divined a scenario through a Ouija board during a fly agaric bender in the small hours. Divulging it would earn a dose of the ducking stool, and in any case it’s not quite clear that all the details hold up. But to broach the general nature of their devilry, it zooms this story of religious persecution out into a multiverse-type entanglement.
In 1575, the Horned One appears to have targeted the town of Dawnbrook; a woman takes to its streets carrying her parents’ severed heads. But at the murderer’s trial,...

Escape opens with a massive burst of adrenaline. A woman running for her life across a desert landscape trips and impales herself on a sun-bleached piece of wood. Her pursuer leaves her for dead because, as he tells his boss, “She’s too damaged. Even if she lives, she’d never sell.” He should have made sure she was dead because as he looks at a map, she comes up behind him and beats his head in with a rock. Then she stabs him with his own knife and, just to make sure, puts the pickaxe in the back of his truck through his chest.
Twenty-four hours ago Tamsin (Ksenia Islamova; The Lockdown Hauntings) and her friend Karla arrived in Fuerteventura. It didn’t take long for Andras and his crew...

Well Go USA is releasing this direct-to-video survival thriller titled Escape, which is not the most original or interesting title. It's already available on VOD now after premiering last year. After being taken from an island resort by a criminal gang, ten young women hatch an escape plan through the deset as they fight for survival against their ruthless kidnappers. They're caught off-guard when some of the women break free and fight back. his trash action thriller film stars Sarah Alexandra Marks, Sophie Rankin, Sean Cronin, Angela Dixon, Glenn Salvage, Jon-Paul Gates, Ksenia Islamova, Megan Lockhurst, and Tiffany Hannam-Daniels. "I really wanted the film to be a total blast and an epic journey... It's outlandish and larger than life. The action & violence are visceral and the landscapes striking. When the women fight back, they fight back hard," the director explains. This really looks as terrible as any movie can - avoid at all costs.

Tyler-James stays busy – so busy, it seems like the saying “Another week, another Tyler-James project” might soon be accurate. We’ve heard about multiple Tyler-James movies recently, as the filmmaker has produced the films that turn the popular nursery rhymes Mary Had a Little Lamb and Three Blind Mice into horror stories, and directed both The Loch Ness Horror and Monsternado. Also directed by Tyler-James is the upcoming ITN Distribution release Sky Monster, and a trailer for the film can be seen in the embed above. We don’t yet know exactly when Sky Monster is going to be released, but take a look at the trailer and find out if this looks like something you’d want to watch.

This Halloween, never mind the knock at the door, it’s the ring of your phone you need to worry about as Eric Roberts stars as The Caller, out now in the UK on Digital Platforms.
This taut and tense thriller starts with a shocking, bloody prologue and doesn’t let up for ninety minutes. Sarah Alexandra Marks (Kill Kane) is terrific as Izzy, a young woman working remotely for a bank, who gets into an altercation with a cash-strapped customer called Caleb Baxter, played by Hollywood legend Eric Roberts (The Expendables). Baxter starts to harass Izzy over the phone, saying he will track her down. Worried he might well be able to do that through her social media profile, the increasingly jumpy and unnerved Izzy,...

Movie monsters are incredible. The greats of Rick Baker, Phil Tippett, and Greg Nicotero — among many others — have rendered screens both small and large as monstrous gateways to unabashed nightmare fuel. Whether culled from mythology or the classics of the genre, these creations are a tentpole of the enduring monster movie or creature feature. However conceptualized, movie monsters are as much a part of what movies innately are as anything else.
Every year brings new monsters to the table. Some are relegated to indie VOD offerings, some theatrical bows, and some in a weird space between. Here, we'll be taking a look at the 10 scariest movie monsters of 2022. These beasties proved frighteningly fun; some rendered with computer effects, some conceived practically, and all stupendously scary. They're destined to take a bite out of you.

I will continue to champion Christmas horror probably until the day I die. There’s honestly not much more to it than I love Christmas and I love horror but there is something about a film that mixes the two together nicely. Nicely might not be the word I’d use with The Killing Tree, ridiculously would be much more apt.
Where do I start with The Killing Tree?! Originally known as what I think is a better title, Demonic Christmas Tree. Not dissimilar to the classic Christmas horror B-movie Jack Frost, where a serial killer returns as a snowman, this time, on Christmas Eve, the widow of a murderer who has been executed, casts a spell to resurrect him.

It’s usually not a good sign when a film has more than one title, so the fact that H.P. As Exorcist Vengeance opens a woman lays bleeding in the street as Father Jozsef performs her last rites before barking at the onlookers “Which way did he go?” and chasing down the criminal responsible and shooting him even after he’s on the ground, thereby justifying the “Death Wish meets The Exorcist” line in the film’s press release.
Meanwhile, a wealthy old woman Agnes (Elizabeth McNally) starts talking in the voice of the possessed before slitting her throat with a letter opener, something that looks like smoke passing from her to her servant Magda (Anna Liddell; Deadly Waters) as she dies. And it isn’t long before Magda is talking in the same voice and attacking Edna’s granddaughter Rebecca.

If the drama wasn’t bad enough, a dog dies in this poorly conceived thriller that suffers from wooden acting and turgid pacing
This dull, stilted, suspense drama is not to be confused with either the excellent TV series of the same name starring Stephen Graham and Jodie Comer, or the Beatles’ larky 1965 collaboration with director Richard Lester. Perhaps this Help’s writer-director, Blake Ridder, and his producers were hoping that folks surfing streaming platforms might click on their production thinking it was either of these two far superior entertainments. Accidental viewers are not likely to stick with this unless they really want to know what happens to three or so thinly drawn characters locked in a psychodrama of suspicion, betrayal and unconvincingly faked lust.
Having just split up with her long-distance lover, Grace (Emily Redpath) comes to visit her old friend Liv (Sarah Alexandra Marks) and partner Edward (Louis James) in the countryside.

"I knew something strange was happening from the moment I got here..." An official trailer has debuted for an indie mystery drama titled Help, the feature directorial debut of British indie filmmaker Blake Ridder, who is self-distributing this one after a few fests. It played at the Cinequest Film Festival, and is dropping on VOD starting in February 2022 for any interested. A young woman's life turns chaotic when she uncovers a deadly secret about her friend. It's about a trio of friends that meet up in the idyllic English countryside, but "secrets are exposed and the friends come to see each other in a whole new light." Dun dun dun... The film stars Louis James, Emily Redpath, Sarah Alexandra Marks, and Duncan James. This looks much better than expected, although the erotic thriller story seems a tad cliche. Expect plenty of twists and turns. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Blake Ridder's Help,...

Spider in the Attic opens with what is one of the best mad scientist lines I’ve heard in a long time. “Idiots! Why discard credible science because of how unethical the research was?” Dr. George Zizerman (Chris Cordell; The Curse of Humpty Dumpty) soon finds out as his research comes back to bite him in the ass, among other places.
Jump forward a bit and Linda Buxton needs something to boost her ratings before her long running radio show gets the axe. Welcome to the latest installment in our regular Movies You May Have Missed series here on Nerdly, in which I highlight some of, what I think, are the best movies that have flown under the radar of many or have been “forgotten” in the intervening years since its release. This time round its a fantastic British comedy, Pulp.
Official Synopsis:
Thunder Racers, Infinite Finity, Rat Warriors. Junk Comics’ titles have been referred to as ‘the worst printed material since Mein Kampf’. Tony Leary, the nice-guy owner of Junk Comics, is gearing up for one last roll of the dice. His new superhero title, The Sodomizer, launches at the British International Comic Show, and nothing will stop Tony from making it a success. Nothing except a gang of Geordie criminals who are using a comic company to launder their dirty money. Tony is drafted by the police to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.
