The 12th Mumbai International Film Festival for documentary, short and animation films has announced its lineup. The festival will be held from February 3-9, 2012.
Pink Saris directed by Kim Longinotto which screened at 54th BFI London Film Festival and won an award at the 35th Hong Kong International Film Festival will participate in International Competition for documentaries.
Jai Bhim Comrade directed by Anand Patwardhan which recently won a Special Mention at 8th Dubai International Film Festival will be screened in International Competition.
It’s the Same Story by Nina Sabnani, The Eclipse of Taregna by Rakesh Chaudhary, Visible Bra Straps by Ajitesh Sharma, Aaliya by Rajiv Mohite, Partners in Crime by Paromita Vohra, Inshallah, Football by Ashvin Kumar, The Rat Race by Miriam Chandy Menacherry are some of the films which will screen in Indian Competition.

The festival will close with Sonali Gulati’s documentary I Am while Nila Madhab Panda’s I Am Kalam will be screened as the centerpiece of the festival.
Amole Gupte’s Stanley Ka Dabba will also be presented as part of the festival.

The Eclipse of Taregna
When Rakesh Chaudhary met a bigshot Bollywood producer to narrate his short film idea of The Eclipse of Taregna, the producer asked him– “What’s a short film!”. After meeting many such producers, Chaudhary ended up self-financing his film with the help of a cinematographer friend and the film went on to win the grand jury prize for the best short film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in April this year.
It wasn’t any easy for a Mumbai-based film editor Vinoo Choliparambil when he decided to turn director with his short film Vitthal. It was year 2008 and Vinoo had been working in the film industry for five years and had edited films like Ram Gopal Varma’s Phoonk 2.
No producer was interested in producing Vinoo’s film and finally he had to go the independent way. He put in all his savings...

The 4th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala has announced the films in competition. These films have been selected out of the 625 entries the festival received.
The 2011 edition of the festival will take place from July 31-August 4, 2011 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The list of films in the International and the Non-competitive sections will be announced this week.
The festival is organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, for the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala.

The Eclipse of Taregna directed by Rakesh Chaudhary will screen at the 17th Palm Springs International ShortFest. The 2011 edition of the festival will present 331 films which include 64 World Premieres, 58 North American Premieres and 25 U.S. Premieres.
The festival will run in Palm Springs, California from June 21 through June 27, 2011.
The 21-minute film, The Eclipse of Taregna is about an old man taking his grandson to witness a solar eclipse. The official website of the festival describes it as “…gorgeously rendered view of life in a small town in India”.
The film won the Best Short (Grand Jury) Prize at the Indian Film festival of Los Angeles recently.

The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (Iffla) has announced the 13 short films that will screen in the 2011 festival. The 9th edition of the festival will take place from April 12-17 at ArcLight Hollywood.
The shorts were selected from over 350 submissions worldwide. Two of the selected films are from Kranti Kanade and Nisha Ganatra who won the Iffla Film Fund Development Grant in 2010.
