Good news for people who grew up delighting in the weirdo charms of Marty McFly and the DeLorean: The new, two-and-a-half-hour “Back to the Future” musical — which officially opened on Broadway Thursday night — is an incredibly faithful retelling of the 1985 movie, down to classic lines (“My dad’s a peeping Tom!”) and awkward as hell relationship drama.
As for everyone else? Well, that’s where the trouble begins in this musical that, for better or worse, often feels more like an amusement park experience than an art production. The thrill ride even begins before the show officially starts, with the whole outer stage and wings set up to look like an ‘80s video game, with scrolling neon lights and mechanical sounds.
Written by Bob Gale (who originally co-wrote the film), the plot is exactly the one you remember. Everyday teenage boy Marty McFly accidentally goes back in time 30 years, thanks...

Exclusive: There’s some seriously scary stuff going on at London’s National Theatre as the venue prepares for a musical version of Roald Dahl’s The Witches that will feature book and lyrics by playwright Lucy Kirkwood, who’s also an executive consultant on Succession.
Music and lyrics are by Dave Malloy, who won acclaim for the book and score he wrote for Broadway show Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
The show is a co-production between the National and the Roald Dahl Story Company.
Katherine Kingsley (The Larkins) will play the Grand High Witch, whose only objective is to eliminate all children from the planet and turn them into mice. “She’s a tyrannical narcissist, truly she’s really evil. There’s no escaping the fact that she’s a bad person,” Kingsley told us.

The 95th Oscars brought 18.755 million viewers to ABC, according to Nielsen’s official national ratings, by no means a high mark but up 13 percent from last year. The No. 2 show on all of TV in Sunday primetime drew less than one-third that haul.
CBS’ “The Equalizer” starring Queen Latifah nabbed 5.599 million viewers at 8 p.m. on Sunday, per Nielsen data. That’s a pretty good average considering Jimmy Kimmel’s highly-anticipated Academy Awards monologue was on at the same time. Probably the best individual win — and speech — of the night, Ke Huy Quan as Supporting Actor from “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” also happened within the first half-hour.
Here, we should point out that technically CBS had a stronger show in Sunday primetime: “60 Minutes” at 7 p.m. earned 6.040 million total viewers. While still less than a third what the Oscars got, we’re overlooking that one in favor of...

The play’s based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Kate Trefry, and is rooted in the world and mythology of the series. Netflix offered this description of Stranger Things: The First Shadow:
“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of the Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that dropped today on Paramount+.
“You and I are of a kind,” proclaims a doomed Romulan commander to USS Enterprise Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in the reflective Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. “In a different reality, I could have called you friend,” he adds in words that resonate through the decades for any fan of the Gene Roddenberry-created franchise.
That line in the Henry Alonso Myers & Akiva Goldsman-penned episode “A Quality of Mercy” is, of course, directly taken from 1966’s “Balance of Terror,” the acclaimed 14th episode of the first season of the original Star Trek series. Poignant in its repurposing of sorts, the callback flows as a lean forward for the renewed Paramount+ offering.

The end is just around the corner for The Magicians. The current fifth season of the fantasy drama series will be its last; the April 1 Season 3 finale will serve as series finale.

The plots are virtually identical: in this case a deep-sea drilling expedition gone wrong uncovers a monstrous giant starfish that wrecks havoc on humanity, an awakening that is followed by even more kaiju arising and terrorising Earth – forcing a team of scientists to find the legendary creature, the Living Mountain, and get it to battle the menace.
Oh and did I mention that not only is there a giant starfish but he spews lava/magma and is probably responsible for all the worlds volcanic disasters? And we also get fire-breathing monsters,...

A shockingly final The Magicians finale leaves only the most introductory of cliffhangers for season 5 and a slew of unexpected endings.
TV
This The Magicians review contains spoilers.
The Magicians Season 4 Episode 13
No one ever accused The Magicians of being afraid to take risks. Any pat endings, and there were a couple, were completely waved aside by the sheer magnitude of what Quentin did to save the world not only from the twin unkillable gods but also from a potentially omnipotent autocrat. We finally got a payoff to Penny’s mysterious meeting at the underworld elevator, and a surprising addendum to the musical episode actually outdid the original all on its own. Plus the ending was one of the most complete conclusions this series has ever seen even though it sprinkled in several new storylines for season 5.
But before we get carried away by the poignancy of Quentin’s sacrifice,...

We have a lot of questions after The Magicians Season 4 finale. Here are the biggest ones we hope Season 5 addresses.
Warning: This The Magicians article contains Major spoilers for the Season 4 finale.
The Magicians Season 4 finale was arguably the most devastating season-ender in the show's history. The only thing that is keeping me going at this point is the knowledge that the writers' room is already hard at work on The Magicians Season 5, spinning out the most emotionally-affecting, unpredictably truthful answers to the following questions...
Is Quentin really dead?
If Quentin is coming back to the show, then The Magicians creative team is playing very coy about it—as in straight-up lying. The executive producers released this statement in regards to Quentin's death, following the airing of the season finale:

Syfy has renewed “The Magicians” for a fifth season just ahead of the fourth season premiere. The show has also promoted Henry Alonso Myers to co-showrunner for the fifth season.
“‘The Magicians’ raised the bar at Syfy and has gained momentum season after season, attracting a new audience to the channel. We are proud of this series as it continues to break the boundaries of storytelling,” said Bill McGoldrick, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.
Based on Lev Grossman’s bestselling novels of the same name, “The Magicians” centers on a group of 20-somethings from Brakebills University as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures. Currently, the characters have forgotten who they are, having had their minds wiped by “The Monster,” who has sought them out for still unknown reasons.

Plus, whatever happened to the four-headed version? It seems The Asylum went from three heads to five without a thought for a four-headed version, but then sharks have pretty big foreheads already don’t they? [insert noticeable groan here]. SyFy’s The Magicians has conjured its official season four trailer, showcasing the core group’s struggle to remember their identities and rediscover each other. The new episodes start on Jan. 23 at 9 Pm Et/8 Central.
Last season, the core group embarked on the epic quest of the seven keys to restore magic after it was turned off. In the finale, just as our magicians finally restored magic by unlocking the fountain at the other end of the Wellspring, the Library, Irene McAllistair and Dean Fogg swooped in to reroute magic to them.
In exchange, Dean Fogg negotiated the lives of his students, erasing their memories and giving each – except Alice who is now imprisoned by the Library – a new, magic-free identity. Even with their new identities, our core group is far from safe. Inside Castle Blackspire an ancient, powerful and unkillable Monster escaped confinement and jumped bodies to a new host, Eliot.

With fans eager for more adventures at Brakebills, in Fillory, and beyond, Syfy's recent renewal announcement guarantees that The Magicians season 4 will be a reality. Coming just past the halfway mark of season 3, the news is neither surprising nor expected quite this early, but audience reception has always been overwhelmingly positive for this quirky, funny, sometimes dark fantasy. Amid a glut of negative attention surrounding insensitive clips posted to YouTube in recent weeks, it can be easy to overlook the helpful -- and inspirational -- content that the platform’s users regularly furnish.
Such is the case with 48-year-old Chris Fisher, who began to lose his sight roughly a decade ago when he was first diagnosed with toxoplasmosis -- a parasitic disease frequently contracted from animal waste that irreparably damaged both of his retinas. The U.K. native, who is now blind, had previously worked as an engineer and harbored dreams of becoming a woodworker -- so he turned to YouTube in order to help him hone his craft.

The U.K. native, who is now blind, had previously worked as an engineer and harbored dreams of becoming a woodworker -- so he turned to YouTube in order to help him hone his craft.

Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the near future. Specifically, 25 years after “The Extinction War,” when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas. Stars: Luke Allen-Gale, Carl Beukes, Alan Dale, Christopher Egan, Chris Fisher, Shivani Ghai, Rosalind Halstead and Anthony Head. LEEE777 - Dominion debuts June 19 at 9/8c on the Syfy channel. Well, what can I say, except, um, I expected something better than this 30-second first look at the upcoming new Syfy Channel show “Dominion.” This is, of course, the show based on the Scott Stewart movie “Legion,” starring Paul Bettany as an angel who comes to Earth to save the day. The show stars “Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s” Anthony Head, along with Alan Dale, Christopher Egan, Luke Allen-Gale, Carl Beukes, Chris Fisher, Shivani Ghai, Rosalind Halstead, and Roxanne McKee. I guess we’ll find out for...
