“It’s anybody’s game,” said Dmitry Sholokhov at the beginning of the “Project Runway All Stars” season finale. He had won the show twice before and was going for an unprecedented three-peat, but this season of “All Stars” featured nothing but past champions, so he was up against fellow Us winners Michelle Lesniak and Irina Shabayeva as well as Canadian “Runway” victor Evan Biddell. Who was named the “Runway” world champion at the end of the night?
The episode got off to an exciting start with the announcement of the final challenge. After weeks of unique, innovative and highly specific design tasks that ran the gamut from airplane materials to Willy Wonka inventions, the designers had no rules at all for their finale collections. Their mission was to take four days and a $3,000 budget to create six-look collections inspired by whatever theme they wanted. Essentially, their design objective could...

After narrowly escaping elimination last week, Project Runway All Stars‘ final four designers — Evan Biddell, Irina Shabayeva, Michelle Lesniak and Dmitry Sholokhov — faced off Wednesday for the newly minted titled of “World Champion.”
This time around, the designers were given more freedom than ever, challenged with creating a six-look collection in four days with a budget of $3,000. “The specific theme can be whatever you want,” host Alyssa Milano revealed, which seemed to please everyone. Let’s see how this all panned out…

Third time proved to be the charm for Anthony Williams when he won season 6 of “Project Runway All Stars” on April 5. The Atlanta, Georgia native had first competed on season 7 of the main show in 2010, where he placed fifth. He then contended in the first season of “All Stars” in 2012 and placed ninth.
Williams’ win was even more impressive, given that he was going up against two designers — Fabio Costa and Stanley Hudson — who had done much better than him in their previous appearances on this reality competition franchise. Costa had been the runner-up on season 10 of the main show and placed fifth on season four of “All-Stars.” And Hudson had been third on season 11 of “Project Runway.”

Anthony Williams won season six of “Project Runway All Stars” at the end of the finale episode, “Making Fashion History,” on April 5. But how does he compare to the history of “All Stars” winners? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
For Williams, the third time was the charm. He originally competed in season seven of the original “Project Runway” series back in 2010. He was eliminated in seventh place, but then brought back after another contestant withdrew from the competition. Ultimately, he ended that season in fifth place. Then he took part in the first ever season of “All Stars” in 2012, but that didn’t go any better for him: he was sent home in ninth place. So he had a lot to prove stepping into the “Runway” workroom for the third time this year. And he certainly proved it, defeating two other finalists...

If it were up to us, "Project Runway" would never be "out," it would just play on a loop 24/7/365.
Sadly, Season 14 will say auf wiedersehen on Thursday, November 5th, so now seems like a good time to take stock and rank the previous 13 seasons, with the expectation that the 2015 season will probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack once it's done. (Tim Gunn "hated" Season 14, but there have been worse.) Every season of PR is a precious, unique little rhinestone, but, like the judges, we have our favorites -- and now it's Our turn to be biased.
So here's our very subjective but still definitive worst-to-best ranking, which may only be challenged by a glare from Nina Garcia, an eye roll from Michael Kors, a "make it work" from Tim Gunn, or an "out" from Heidi Klum.
13. Season 11 (aka 'Teams')Maybe it seemed like a good, or at least dramatic,...

In HitFix's new feature "Waxing Episodic," we reflect on an episode of television we'll never forget. I don't know a single person who believes "Project Runway" is at its best now, but the decade-old reality competition is still chugging along, and that's a remarkable feat for a show that peaked in terms of sheer entertainment value at the end of its first season. Yes, season one. Say what you will about the subsequent cycles, which have included some of the most hilarious contestants (Santino Rice, Laura Bennett, the loopy, lovable puppetrix Elisa Jimenez) and undeniable talents (Christian Siriano, Mondo Guerra, Leanne Marshall) in reality history, but "Project Runway" has almost always required trumped-up workroom drama to keep us coming back. Season three succeeded with the Jeffrey Sebelia cheating allegations and season eight offered up an irritating, intriguing teacher's pet in the form of winner Gretchen Jones, but the duller seasons...

I don’t know about this. A #CancelColbert hashtag showed up on Twitter over a tweet based on a joke that appeared on Wednesday’s Colbert Report that brought back racist caricature Ching-Chong Ding-Dong as part of coverage of the increasing controversy over the name of Washington’s football team. Part of me wants to scream at people who can’t tell the difference between a joke with racist motivations and a racist joke used to draw a parallel to racism directed at other groups. (Or to yell that you might want to rethink your outrage about racism towards Asian-Americans when the woman who wrote a book defending internment camps agrees with you.) Another part of me is thinking, “These people can’t be real, right?” Are these the people who tell studies that they think that Colbert is secretly really conservative? This is a set up to a bit,...

Nobody but Tim Gunn can make a phrase like “Make It Work” stick in the pop culture lexicon. In many ways, that’s exactly what he’s done his entire career, from his influential work from 1982-2007 as Associate Dean and, later, Chair at Parsons: The New School Of Design to the show that made him a household name (and earned him an Emmy!), Project Runway.
Gunn has a brand new entry for his resume, headlining competition series Under The Gunn, which premieres tonight on Lifetime. Gunn watches over former PR contestants Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos as they mentor designers in teams that will compete against each other until the contestants are whittled down to one winning designer.
Gunn was present last week at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and sat down with TheBacklot to talk about how much he had to mentor the mentors (a lot!

Tim Gunn has become Lifetime's go-to fashion maven.
In the same way Food Network consistently relies on Bobby Flay and Guy Fieri, Lifetime taps the "Project Runway" mentor for his own show, "Under the Gunn," premiering Thursday, Jan. 16.
The new series features "Project Runway" alumni Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos as mentors.
"It takes what I love most about 'Runway,' " Gunn tells Zap2it. "It takes talented designers, fun challenges and great fashion and has to do with me mentoring."
"They are mentoring the designers in the workroom, and I am mentoring the mentors. We have a whole new layer of content in this show. In 'Runway,' I am mentoring everybody. With this, it is about the success of the designers and how the mentors are faring and about their own growth and development."

Forgive yourself if you took a look at the trailer for Tim Gunn's upcoming Lifetime reality series "Under The Gunn" and couldn't quite catch the differences from that other fashion competition he's busy with, "Project Runway." He sympathizes with you.
"I wouldn't expect you to," Gunn jokes Thursday (Jan. 9) at the TCA winter press tour when one reporter admitted they couldn't quite distinguish between the two series. "I'm grateful for the question. ... We took the best parts -- well, I shouldn't say the best parts -- the parts that I love about 'Project Runway.'"
Ultimately, the new series aimed its focus on Gunn and his mentorship role. "Sara [Rea, executive producer] huddled and really came up with this concept about me being sort of the big daddy, mentoring mentors who are mentoring designers in the work room," Gunn explains. "So you see a different dimension than you do on 'Runway' -- in fact,...

“I’m going to be completely transparent — I thought the same thing!” Tim Gunn said of rapper Macklemore guest judging on Gunn’s new fashion competition series Under The Gun.” That in response to a Wtf kind of question about the guest judge choice during the TCA press tour. “He was fabulous,” Gunn insisted. “He is so knowledgeable about fashion.” “He was extremely articulate, he was a blast,” chimed in executive producer Sarah Rea. In November, Lifetime announced it was further expanding the Project Runway franchise with Under The Gunn, a 13-episode new fashion series starring Project Runway co-host Gunn, produced by Runway‘s Bunim/Murray and The Weinstein Co. , featuring Runway alumni, and debuting January 16. Gunn, who a couple months earlier had won an Emmy with Runway co-host Heidi Klum, will carry on with his duties on the mothership competition show. Everyone knows the No. 1 reason to tune in to "Project Runway" is to see mentor Tim Gunn scare the crap out of the contestants and force them to do their best design work every week. Now, the fairy godfather of fashion competitions is getting his very own show on Lifetime. It's about time!
"Under the Gunn," premiering Jan. 16, 2014 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt, is a new twist on the fashion design competition that could essentially be described as "Project Runway: Phase 2." Gunn hosts a competition between "PR" alums Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee, and Nick Verreos as they mentor and manage their own groups of designers -- basically, they're competing to be the new Tim Gunn.
The judges are designer Rachel Roy, stylist Jen Rade, and Marie Claire senior fashion editor Zanna Roberts Rassi.

Lifetime is further expanding the Project Runway franchise with Under The Gunn, a 13-episode new fashion series starring Project Runway co-host Tim Gunn, produced by Runway‘s Bunim/Murray and The Weinstein Co. and featuring Runway alumni. As for Gunn, who just won an Emmy with Runway co-host Heidi Klum, the new show, which premieres on January 16, does not mean a departure from the mothership series, on which he will carry on with his duties. This marks the third Project Runway offshoot on Lifetime, including Project Runway All Stars, now in its third season, and Project Accessory, which ran for one cycle. On Under The Gunn, Runway alumni Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos will be tasked with mentoring and managing a fashion empire with 15 new up-and-coming designers under their watch. Each mentor will have a team of designers they must manage, coach, cheerlead and, when necessary, knock down...

In 2010, a 23-year-old fashion designer named Andy South competed on Project Runway‘s eighth season and sparred against some wild competition: the histrionic Michael Costello, the deadpan hero Mondo Guerra, the unwaveringly self-assured Gretchen Jones (who won the season, outraging many devoted fans), and the sweet but bizarre Casanova. Now, the studious and methodical South is back as more confident alum for Project Runway All-Stars 3, which premieres tonight, but with a brand new life in tow.
Since South’s last appearance on Lifetime’s reality competition staple, the designer has completed a gender transition. Now, the Waianae, Hi native is a woman known by the name Ari South — a name picked out by Ari’s mother. We caught up with South to discuss pleasing a whole new panel of judges (including host Alyssa Milano), the story behind her new name, and how her personal transformation has affected her work.

Don’t ask her who’s the boss, but questions about her upcoming hosting gig are allowed as actress Alyssa Milano gets ready to get glam for Project Runway. Fashionistas take note! This little lady has signed the dotted line to host Lifetime’s popular design competition, Project Runway: All Stars.
All Stars is Project Runway‘s third venture. Production begins in New York this month in preparation for a fall premiere. It will bring with it familiar faces. Judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman will return to greet their new host.
THR spread the word. We don’t know yet which designers will be competing for for this year’s crown, but if past winner Mondo Guerra and Anthony Ryan Auld are solid examples, then we can expect good things.

We can quibble about the name Project Runway: All-Stars, since I don't see prized contestants like Nick Verreos or Jillian Lewis in this lineup, but the second installment of Lifetime's alumni competition is probably going to be entertaining all the same. Truly. There are enough wild cards at play here -- each equipped with a wildly different skill type and level -- to make the season worth a run. The only problem? We need to rank which of these all-stars is destined for success. So here, just two days shy of Thursday's premiere, my predictions for the rankings of Project Runway All-Stars' new season. Spoiler: Pretty sure I made it work, guys.
