Regina Mills, is that you?
That's the question I had to ask myself while watching the trailer for Why Women Kill Season 2.
From creator Marc Cherry, the sophomore season features a new ensemble cast and storylines set in 1949 that will explore what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society and finally, the lengths one woman will go in order to finally belong.
The new trailer shows Lana Parrilla in character, and you can tell she's loving every single beat of her wicked new role.
The cast also includes Allison Tolman, B.K. Cannon, Jordane Christie, Matthew Daddario, Veronica Falcón, and Nick Frost.
Tolman plays a housewife determined to make her way into the inner circle of society, but Parilla's character stands in her way at every turn, even pushing her to the ground in one scene.

On today’s Crew Call podcast we speak with Marc Cherry who after a long-running streak with ABC’s Desperate Housewives and Lifetime’s Devious Maids returns to the underbelly of Americana bourgeoisie in CBS All Access’ Why Women Kill.
Working with a streamer is bliss for Cherry, free from the fences erected by a network’s standard and practices department. The freedom allowed Cherry to swing for the fences in regard to how bawdy he could be in this limited anthology series about three generations of housewives –portrayed by Lucy Liu, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who’ve lived in the same big house in Pasadena over three different eras, only to see their lives impacted by murder.
Goodwin plays a housewife during the 1960s who after learning that her husband (Sam Jaeger) is cheating, befriends his mistress (Sadie Calvano). Lucy Liu portrays an upscale gallery owner during the 1980s,...

Exclusive: Former Mom star Sadie Calvano and Alanna Ubach (Bombshell) are set as series regulars opposite Meaghan Rath and Jack Cutmore-Scott in CBS’ ensemble comedy pilot Jury Duty, from 9Jkl co-creator Dana Klein, writer Stephanie Darrow, UK producer Big Talk Productions and CBS Television Studios.
In the hybrid Jury Duty, written by Klein and Darrow based on a British format and directed by Christine Gernon, a group of jurors are sequestered together until they all agree on a verdict….and they can’t even agree on lunch.
Calvano will play Linzee. Gorgeous and a bit naïve, Linzee loves animals and is a vegetarian because “bunnies!” She’s also very optimistic, easily excited, and too sweet to realize she’s the most beautiful girl in the world.
Ubach is Judge Wallace. Judge Wallace wanted to be an actress and now the courtroom is her stage, where she’s wildly unprofessional and...

Why Women Kill should be much more than it is.
Mark Cherry assembles a truly magnificent cast for what is billed as a darkly comedic drama, but after two episodes (all that were available for me to review) it's very difficult to connect with the characters, and that's troublesome.
Marc Cherry is no stranger to a good comedic drama. In fact, he's a master.
With both Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids, he managed to capture lightning in a bottle. Twice!
With soapy twists galore, the characters on those series were still straightforward, and their motivations, while not pure, always came from a place of soapland logic.
Why Women Kill, on the other hand, is a little too heavy on comedy at the expense of character development.
The series doesn't hide its intent. Not only is it in the title, but the opening credits are a cute collection of comic book...

With his new CBS All Access show “Why Women Kill,” Marc Cherry maintains the titillating drama of his previous efforts while pushing into more “mature” territory — a move he owes to the streaming platform.
“Working on a network show where they want 23 episodes a season — it’s a really tough factory gig,” Cherry told Variety, having previously created ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” and Lifetime’s “Devious Maids.” “We turned out 10 episodes of ‘Why Women Kill.’ I had so much more time and so much more money to be able to shift and shape these episodes in amazing ways. I love being in the streaming world. I could do more mature themes. I could throw in a four letter word and tasteful nudity.”

The best moments of “Desperate Housewives” — Marc Cherry’s pathbreaking and strangely underrated 2000s soap opera — were the ones in which the wives got to talking. The four main characters on the show, which came on the air shortly after the end of “Sex and the City” and transplanted aspects of its formula from Manhattan to anonymous suburbia, each represented a particular way of thinking about love, marriage, and the home. The murders and scandal that made the show’s name felt ornamental when debate and frank talk played out over hedges or at the ladies’ poker night.
Which makes it all the more confounding that Cherry’s new soap opera, the CBS All Access drama “Why Women Kill,” is yet the latest show to fail to learn the lessons of one of the last truly huge network hits. His three protagonists — played by Lucy Liu, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste — exist in different timelines,...

There are times when you have to wonder why parents start their kids out when they’re so young, but then you get the impression that a lot of these kids want this and figure it’s best not to dampen their enthusiasm. "Oh no... I think I cut myself!" Netflix has released another official trailer for their comedy The Package, which is now available, the latest film from Funny or Die filmmaker Jake Szymanski (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates). The wacky, stupid comedy is about a group of teenage friends who go on a spring break camping trip, but an accident causes them to change their plans in hopes of saving their friend. Yeah, it's dumb and made for teenagers to get drunk and laugh at. The full cast for this includes Daniel Doheny, Geraldine Viswanathan, Sadie Calvano, Luke Spencer Roberts, Eduardo Franco, Michael Eklund, Gary Jones, Alexander Calvert, Sugar Lyn Beard, and Blake Anderson. This looks so, so bad and I don't even know why Netflix is pushing it with two full trailers, but here we go anyway. Have at it. Wayans (New Girl, Happy Endings) stars as one half of a boring married couple whose lives get a jolt when a young pop star moves in with them. Parnell will play Wayne, the pop star’s slick, money-hungry agent.
Parnell currently recurs as Dean Parker on Freeform’s black-ish spinoff grown-ish. In addition to his eight years on SNL, Parnell has had memorable runs on 30 Rock, Archer and Suburgatory.
