Alexander Bublik recently shared a hilarious interview on how he wanted to throw away a doubles match at Roland Garros two years ago.
Bublik, 26, is one of the Atp's ultimate show ponies due to his mercurial ball striking and improvised shots that sometimes draw the crowd's ire. Due to his unorthodox style of play, Bublik is sometimes mistaken for putting in less effort than his fellow players.
But having won three Atp titles and achieved a career-best ranking of No. 25 (and currently Kazakhstan's No.1 male player), it is hard to dispute that Bublik is a master of his craft. While criticism will always be magnified in the wake of his overzealous shotmaking, unpredictability is part of his personality.

Former Atp No. 1 Andy Murray talked about compatriot Jack Draper 's post-match celebration after Great Britain reached the Davis Cup Final 8.
With the tie against France finely poised at 1-1, Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski delivered in a winner-takes-all doubles rubber against the French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. There were 13,000 fans inside Manchester's Ao Arena who lived through a rollercoaster.
It was a record crowd for a Davis Cup tie in the United Kingdom. Evans and Skupski heroically saved four match points to clinch the tie and secure Great Britain's spot in the Final 8 scheduled to take place in November. They'll meet a Novak Djokovic-led Serbian team in Malaga .
It was an eventful day for all the players and fans, but the night was only halfway done for British pair Andy Murray and Jack Draper who shared the car on their way home to the south of England.

Despite starting the day undefeated in their group in the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, Great Britain barely survived, having to save 4 match points in a crucial doubles match.
Great Britain defeated both Australia and Switzerland ahead of their final clash with France but still wasn't safe as they needed to beat France on the final day due to how the other results turned out. France would be secure with a win against Great Britain, and they nearly pulled it off.
The first match of the day saw Daniel Evans come back from a set and break down to defeat rising star Arthur Fils , giving Great Britain the lead. Cameron Norrie was nominated for the second match in spite of being in terrible form for a very long time.
Some questioned whether Jack Draper should have gotten the nod, and when Ugo Humbert bested Norrie, it certainly looked like the wrong decision.

New York, Sep 1 (Ians) Russian Daniil Medvedev secured his 250th hard-court victory late at night against Australian Christopher O’Connell on Day 4 in the US Open. In the third set tie-break, Medvedev outclassed the Australian with his depth of the court and ability of ground coverage.
With this win, he went straight into the third round clocking back at 2021 when he won the US Open final defeating Serbian Novak Djokovic straightaway in three sets.
Another Russian, Andrey Rublev, the eighth seed, also impressed, showcasing his resiliency and consistency in defeating Gael Monfils. Both players’ tenacity was on display during their protracted rallies, but Rublev’s higher level of consistency allowed him to move to the third round.
Alexander Zverev, who had previously reached the US Open final, also kept up his quest for a major championship. The German increased his prospects of making it to the Atp Finals after defeating countryman...

Casper Ruud isn't just a tennis player, but a part-time aficionado. When he is not playing, the best bet is that he is watching one of his peers play.
So when a reporter tries to defame one of his fellow Atp pros, Casper Ruud isn't going to stay muted . The Norwegian star responded to a tweet from Scott Barclay on X on whether John Isner 's matches filled tennis fans with any excitement or a feeling of anticipation.
This came about in the wake of the big-serving American deciding to call time on his playing career at the end of the 2023 US Open . Ruud admitted he was indeed a big fan and watched several matches of Isner, some of which happened before the Norwegian star turned professional in 2015.
Isner's playing style isn't what many aspiring players resonate with , but ironically, he played a part in some very entertaining matches during his career.

Former Atp World No. 8 John Isner announced his imminent retirement from professional tennis after playing this year's US Open one last time.
The 38-year-old shared the news on all his social media platforms, a decision that looked on the cards for a while now since his forthright admission about tennis not being his priority anymore . He had spoken about putting his family first, which explains why he has only played four tournaments outside the American continent this season.
Isner penned a heartfelt post on his Instagram account stating that in light of what had transpired, it was the right decision, and couldn't think of a better way to bring the curtain down to his 17-plus-year career than in New York.
Isner was granted a wild card at his home Slam and will play in his 17th and final US Open main draw next week. Since his debut appearance at Flushing...

Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek won't compete as the first-seeded team in the mixed doubles at the 2023 Wimbledon .
Grand Slam tournaments are always special as they are the only events in the calendar when players can compete in three separate tournaments. And that's exactly what Jessica Pegula did at the 2023 Wimbledon, signing up for the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles tournament.
In singles, the American started with three victories, making it to the fourth round of the tournament. In doubles, she also started well, winning her first match alongside Coco Gauff on a quest to become the world no. 1 in doubles in the Wta Rankings.
The mixed doubles draw prepared a very interesting match on the first two lines. The top-seeded Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek were set to take on one of the couples in the draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa .

Novak Djokovic is likely to finish his tennis career as the most accomplished tennis player of all time yet he also wants to be the greatest, something John McEnroe thinks takes guts.
Djokovic has been quite open about his belief that he is truly the best tennis player out there and it's a needed ingredient if you hope to dominate the sport the way he did. You have to have a certain dose of self-belief otherwise it will never work out. His name is a prominent part of the Goat debate even though he rarely speaks about it.
Nothing in the Goat debate is objective as one would say it's Djokovic, somebody else might say it's Federer, and as Nicolas Mahut once explained, even if Djokovic breaks all the records there will still be a debate. He himself talked about it often explaining that it does motivate him, breaking records and leaving a legacy.

Benoit Paire has had a lot of problems in his career including mental health and depression and to his credit, he talked about it openly.
You could argue that Benoit Paire has many flaws but he's always been very real and open with them. The French player was once a Top 20 level talent yet recent years saw him battle various types of demons both on and off the court.
The pandemic was a big part of that and he's openly talked about his problems with depression and other things. He recently admitted to Rmc Sport that he had moments where he consumed a lot of alcohol but denied ever being dependent on it.
As the head was fine, I said to myself: Stop the alcohol a little too. I did a detox. It's not that I was an alcoholic but I drank a lot, I liked it, I did too much when I often partied.

In a high-quality final, the American-British tandem was sharp from the first to the last point, overcoming the Croatians 7-6(4), 6-4 to end their season in style in northern Italy.
Salisbury is the first Briton to win the Atp Finals doubles title, while Ram is the 18th American to clinch the crown. The pair has earned 1,500 Atp Doubles Rankings points and 930,300 dollars as undefeated champions, the biggest doubles payday in history.
“That’s probably up there with one of our best matches, one of our best matches as a team. I think we’re so proud of everything we’ve done this week. We’ve come through some tough situations, but we’ve stuck together the whole way.

Wimbledon announced a new policy for its 2019 tournament to prevent marathon matches such as this year’s epic six-hour-plus semifinal duel between John Isner and Kevin Anderson.
There will now be a final-set tie-break that will only kick in when the score reaches 12-12, the All England Lawn Tennis Club said in a statement on its website Friday.
The decision comes in the wake of Isner and Anderson’s seemingly never-ending six-hour-36-minute match last June. Isner also holds the record for the longest professional tennis match in history when he defeated Nicolas Mahut in a total of 11 hours and 5 minutes of play over the course of three days at the 2010 Wimbledon.

HBO has garnered acclaim for their prestige TV offerings, but one of their most underrated contributions to the television landscape is 2015’s “7 Days in Hell,” a mockumentary of the infamous John Isner/Nicolas Mahut Wimbledon showdown that shattered the record for longest tennis match in history. On the strengths of stars Andy Samberg and Kit Harrington, “7 Days in Hell” also took aim at a few of the legendary tennis rivalries of the 70s, 80s and 90s that brought the sport into the mainstream.
It’s a goofy, perfectly timed spoof that plays with the familiar tropes of sports docs, namely the ones in Espn’s “30 for 30” series. Apparently, it worked so well that HBO wanted more. Samberg and “7 Days in Hell” writer Murray Miller have reteamed for another trip through niche sports history with “Tour de Pharmacy,” a fictional look at a doping scandal in the world of 80s cycling.

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic's 30-match Grand Slam winning streak was broken on Monday in a heated battle against rising American star Sam Querrey. The 28-year-old California native described his history-making win - which ended Djokovic's bid to be the first man to complete a Grand Slam since 1969 - as "incredible." "I'm so ecstatic, so happy. I played the break points well and every time he had a break point I was able to come up with a big serve," Querrey told BBC of Djokovic. The rising star, who was seeded 28th and ranked 41st in the world, completed...

HBO's "7 Days in Hell" airs this Saturday, July 11, at 10 Pm Et/Pt and whew, it's not good. Starring Andy Samberg and "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington as rival tennis players, the 45-minute special is a send up of the 2010 Wimbledon match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut, which ran for three days. Bad boy American, Aaron Williams (Samberg) and British home favorite Charles Poole (Harington) battle it out over the course of seven days with interviews and vignettes spliced in-between each day's play and with every passing minute it weighs heavier and heavier on your soul. Williams is something of an Andre Agassi, tennis bad boy that falls on hard times after killing a linesman with an errant serve, while Poole is a dimwitted Brit who can hardly tie his own shoes. Everything from weather to sex with streakers, phone calls from the Queen of England, sex with streakers,...

HBO has released the official full-length trailer of 7 Days in Hell, confirming that, indeed, tennis is a vicious blood sport. The movie stars Andy Samberg as an Andre Agassi–circa–"image is everything" look-alike and an uncomfortably bare-faced Kit Harington as a U.K. hopeful, with the two throwing down in the longest (fake) match in Wimbledon history. (Fun fact: The longest Wimbledon match went for over 11 hours, played for over three days, between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut in 2010.) There are a number of talking heads plucked from the actual tennis world (Serena Williams and John McEnroe) and the comedy world (Lena Dunham and Will Forte) commenting on the match. Imagine all of the bloody nipples!

Andy Samberg and Kit Harington co-star as fictional tennis players in what the official synopsis describes as an "outrageous sports 'documentary.'"
