Nothing could be more exciting for TV actress Suhani Dhanki than to make a cameo in the Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Cuttputli’. “This was during the pandemic when a lot of films seemed to have been shot in the UK. I was approached by the brilliant casting team because they were looking for a UK-based actor for this role. I auditioned, and after a few months, I got the part.”
“Fortunately, I played the role of an Rj who is pregnant and helps Akshay find the lead in the thriller,” shares Suhani, who was last seen in the TV show ‘Porus’, where she played the role of the protagonist, Laacchi.
The film is directed by Ranjit Tewari and also features Rakul Preet Singh and Sargun Mehta among others.
Calling her experience of working with Akshay absolutely memorable, she adds: “He is absolutely brilliant. I have never seen a more disciplined actor.

Variety has secured exclusive access to a leaked image from an untitled project headlined by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, which is currently shooting in the U.K.
The film is based on the real life story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who saved the lives of 64 miners who were trapped in a mine at Raniganj Coalfields in eastern India in 1989, with Kumar playing Gill. It is produced by Indian film company Pooja Entertainment and helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who previously directed Kumar in “Rustom” (2016).
The image was clicked on set by a Kumar fan in a Yorkshire field while the crew was filming, despite Pooja Entertainment keeping the security tight and the location isolated. Variety understands that the production company has blocked over 100 acres for shooting and that the film could be the largest Indian production in terms of scale to take place in the U.K. The...

A look at Indian politics elevates this crowd-pleasing blockbuster, in which movie god Kumar lives out his super-spy fantasy
In its native India, this Akshay Kumar vehicle has become the first major Bollywood production to enter tentatively reopening cinemas. (UK multiplexes reopened with Salman Khan’s Radhe.) It’s easy to understand why: informed by the multiple plane hijackings that disrupted India and Pakistan’s early 1980s impasse, Ranjit Tewari’s film is a reassuringly traditional masala mashup that hands its enduring star a juicy lead role. Kumar’s NatSec nabob Anshul Malhotra bounds on screen to the loudest fanfare heard since James Bond’s, an illustrious intro only undercut by the revelation of his character’s codename: BellBottom, derived from Malhotra’s preference for circus-tent trousers. As a back-to-cinema-business proposition, it’s already one joke up on Tenet.
What follows is a teachable example of how Hindi films are...

Bollywood period espionage thriller “Bellbottom,” starring Akshay Kumar (“Pad Man”), and directed by Ranjit Tewari (“Lucknow Central”) has wrapped its Scotland shoot, making it one of the first projects globally to start and complete its entire shoot during the coronavirus pandemic.
Producers Pooja Entertainment (“Coolie No. 1”) flew the 200-strong crew in a chartered flight to Glasgow and quarantined them for 14 days, creating a bubble, and completed the film in a 45-day schedule over August and September.
The unit worked closely with Scotland’s Screen Commission and adhered to Covid-safe guidelines. Besides medical-grade PPE, and required distancing, the production made it mandatory for all cast and crew to wear a watch that constantly monitored their oxygen levels, body temperature, blood pressure, stress levels and pulse. A centralized dashboard constantly recorded the parameters of the entire unit and kept a check for any changes in readings.

“You don’t get justice in the world, you only get good luck or bad luck,” a wise old librarian (pronounced ‘lee-bray-nian’ by his Lucknowi singer-son) quotes Orson Welles.
Our good luck, then, that we get a prison drama as taut and thrilling, relevant and resonant as Lucknow Central right in the middle of the year when things are looking bloody bleak in Bollywood.
Yes, there is hope. Lucknow Central is by far the most engaging thinking-man’s thriller of the year. Ballsy and brave, it penetrates the politics of prison life without relinquishing the right to engage us in a solid storytelling spree where a clever cat-and-mouse game is played out between a sadistic jailor (Ronit Roy, in top form) and a non-guilty prisoner (Farhan Akhtar...

Ranjit Tiwari, who is making his directorial debut with Lucknow Central has been working under the wings of producer Nikkhil Advani for the last eight years. In fact Advani saw potential in Ranjit since the very beginning and it was in 2012 that Nikkhil promised Tiwari that he would back his first film.
Ranjit had no formal training in the field and it was Nikkhil who taught him everything that he knows about film making. Ranjit played a pivotal role in the making of Nikkhil Advani’s D-Day and it was during the edit of that film when Nikkhil made Ranjit this promise.
To this, Ranjit Tiwari said, “I’ve learnt the ropes of filmmaking from Nikkhil; I don’t have any formal training to back me. It was the last day of D-Day’s edit on December 31, 2012, when he casually told me that he will back my first film. It...
Ranjit had no formal training in the field and it was Nikkhil who taught him everything that he knows about film making. Ranjit played a pivotal role in the making of Nikkhil Advani’s D-Day and it was during the edit of that film when Nikkhil made Ranjit this promise.

Diana Penty, who is leaving no stone unturned to promote her upcoming film Lucknow Central starring Farhan Akhtar. Essaying the character of Gayatri Kashyap, Diana Penty will be seen in an all new avatar. Being a social worker in a male dominated world of convicts and jail authorities was a mental challenge for the actress. Talking about the same, Diana said “Ngo workers have a lot of dedication and passion that I had to bring to my performance. It’s a misconception that it’s voluntary work so it doesn’t require any qualifications. Social workers like Gayatri are well-versed in sociology, psychology and criminal behaviour”.
The role of Gayatri Kashyap was first offered to Kriti Sanon, who walked out after the prep. Firefighting the situation, producer Nikkhil Advani then called Diana, who immediately said yes to the film after a reading with director Ranjit Tiwari. “I didn’t think...

The highly anticipated Lucknow Central starring Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Deepak Dobriyal, Gippy Grewal, Rajesh Sharma and Inaamulhaq and directed by Ranjit Tiwari has now added another intriguing song to its exciting assortment of music. Titled ‘Teen Kabootar’, the unique song composed by Arjunna Harjaie and penned by Kumaar is sung by Mohit Chauhan and Divya Kumar, with Rap verses by Raftaar.
Composed in a very cool way, the track is full of percussive beats with a guitar wailing in here and there. They create the rhythms of the track through body percussions, drums, as well as sounds from common equipment found in jails like brooms, bins, pots, pans and combs etc. What makes it even cooler is that the vocals also are part of the percussive musical line. It truly is someting unique and did we say cool?
