In the first month of Donald Trump’s second term as president, an uncertain America will make a point to honor the “canceled” comedians who were brave enough to choose the exact same targets as the president’s attack ads.
Earlier today, The Recording Academy released the full list of nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards in February. The Best Comedy Album category, specifically, is shaping up to be a slugfest, as superstars Nikki Glaser, Jim Gaffigan, Trevor Noah, Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais will all compete for one of the highest honors in stand-up. Of this worthy crop of contestants, two out of five nominees will almost certainly prove to be divisive should either of them take home the coveted trophy, as Gervais and Chappelle both used their most recent specials, Armageddon and The Dreamer respectively, to continue their campaign to denigrate and dehumanize the transgender community while flaunting...

Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Nikki Glaser, and Trevor Noah were the five comedians nominated for the Grammy for Best Comedy Album on Friday morning.
Gervais, Chappelle and Noah scored for their respective specials Armageddon, The Dreamer, and Where Was I, which were all released on Netflix, with Glaser recognized for HBO’s Someday You’ll Die.
Remarkably, the nomination was the first for both Gervais and Glaser, whose career reached new heights on the heels of her performance in Netflix’s Tom Brady roast. While Gaffigan recently took to Prime Video with the special Dark Pale, he was recognized for The Prisoner, which is the only one of the nominees only to have been released in album form.
Already, four of the five sets have been recognized by other major awards bodies. Gervais’s Armageddon won the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television earlier this year,...

The 2025 Grammy nominations were announced Friday, and with a whopping 94 categories in the show, The Hollywood Reporter is breaking down what you need to know about — including the snubs, the surprises and Beyoncé continuing to make history.
The Snubs
Ariana Grande scored three nominations but was shut out of the top three awards as well as best pop solo performance. Post Malone missed out on album of the year, and though he’s nominated for record and song of the year, it’s for his guest appearance on Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” not for his own No. 1 hit, “I Need Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.
And speaking of Swift — she scored six nominations but how isn’t her groundbreaking concert movie, The Eras Tour, in competition for best music film? And “Fortnight” didn’t make the cut for best pop duo/group performance — instead Swift is nominated there for her...

The Grammy Awards ceremony, which has aired on CBS for over 50 years, has a new home.
Disney has snatched the rights to the annual music awards show in a ten-year deal, a major loss for Paramount.
The Grammys will air on ABC, Hulu and Disney+ from 2027 as part of the deal, taking it through to 2036.
CBS had previously struck a ten-year deal in 2016 to keep the rights through to 2026, breaking the record for a broadcast partnership between an awards show and broadcaster. The network has been home to the awards since 1973, when it snapped up the rights from ABC, which aired the show in 1971 and 1972. NBC previously aired it between 1959 and 1970.
According to sources, CBS and The Recording Academy did not reach an agreement within the two sides’ exclusive negotiating window but CBS remained interested in retaining the Grammys, with talks continuing after the end of the exclusive period when...

In some surprising news, long-time host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, actually isn't going anywhere! He's sticking around the nightly talk show for longer than he'd planned which means it's not goodbye just yet.
The popular talk show host first left The Daily Show back in 2015 after being there for 16 years. Following his departure, he went on to do standup comedy, as well as provide programming for HBO and Apple TV+. Then in 2022 when his successor Trevor Noah announced he would be leaving the show, Stewart came back to host on Monday nights and shared he'd only be around until after the U.S. presidential elections on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Well, now that's changed.
According to TVLine, Stewart has signed on with Comedy Central to continue hosting The Daily Show on Mondays through December 2025. That's much longer than anticipated! That's almost one year more than when he had planned to leave.

Dwayne Johnson has found himself slipping between multiple different fields and managing to ace pretty much every single one as he navigated his way through them all. What initially started with a career in wrestling progressed with him becoming an actor in Hollywood and eventually a successful businessman. His latest gig was to leap into Donald Trump’s specialized field.

To be more precise, he wanted to make his splash in politics as well and run for the position of the president of the United States of America. However, he called off all possibilities of the same last year, and now it seems like this might as well be one of the smartest decisions that Johnson took, considering Trump’s latest confession about being a US president.

Jon Stewart is, and always will be, the face of The Daily Show. He wasn't the first host, but he made the show what it is today through his wit, his attention to detail, and his ability to find humor in very bleak political situations.
Stewart's return to the show has been well-received, despite only being once a week, and it seems as though he wants to keep the party going. The host has decided to extend his Daily Show tenure into 2025. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Stewart will continue to host once a week through the first year of the new presidential term.

Lupita Nyong’o made a sacrifice early in her career. Wanting to better understand the boundaries of her own talents so that she could push and expand them, she enrolled in drama school. One area of performing that she recognized as particularly underdeveloped was her accent work. But diving into that learning process meant getting rid of the Kenyan accent she grew up with.
“I didn’t know how to sound any other way than myself,” Nyong’o shared on the podcast What Now? with Trevor Noah. “That was the first permission that I gave myself.

Lupita Nyong’o had to lose her Kenyan accent in order to become an American actor and take on different Hollywood roles, and she said during a recent episode of the “What Now? With Trevor Noah” podcast that it “felt like a betrayal” to herself when she made that decision. The Oscar winner was born in Mexico but spent her childhood in Kenya. She attended Yale School of Drama in the U.S. before breaking big in Hollywood.
“The first permission I gave myself to change my accent or allow my accent to transform was going to drama school,” Nyong’o said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I went to drama school because I didn’t want to just be an instinctive actor. I wanted to understand my instrument. I wanted to know what I was good at, what I was not good at, and work on the things that I wasn’t good at.

The CBS Mornings interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates has been a “learning” opportunity for the staff, according to anchor Gayle King.
Speaking at a panel at the Paley Center in Manhattan on Tuesday night, King said that the anchors will not “shy away from hard conversations,” but know they have to be mindful of how they approach “hot-button issues.” King was on the panel with fellow CBS Mornings anchors Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil, as well as featured host Vladimir Duthiers and the show’s executive producer Shawna Thomas.
“Life is hard. The news is hard. Sometimes, you have hard conversations on television,” King said.
“We know that it comes with a great responsibility. And we’re mindful of that. Certain topics you know are just hot-button issues. You have to be very careful about how you ask the questions, how the questions are received. I think we don’t shy away from hard conversations,...

On April 28 James Corden announced that he will be leaving ‘The Late Late Show’ following its 2023 season. Corden has been with the CBS show since 2015 and has created iconic segments like Carpool Karaoke and Crosswalk the Musical which take not only television, but YouTube by storm. Corden states that he loves working for ‘The Late Late Show’ and credits a joyous working environment, but after a year of going out with a bang, it’s time for the next adventure. Perhaps a return to Broadway, or a rise in film roles. Though Corden’s announcement is the most recent, he’ll be joining a renowned group of retired late night hosts.
Hosting late night is an arduous task. The skill set required is like no other, hosts are typically comedians, with a monologue to open the show, they need to maintain their charisma throughout the episode, and they need to be skilled interviewers.

Roy Wood Jr. told Gayle King that one of the reasons he left his role as a “Daily Show” correspondent 10 months after Trevor Noah’s departure was because he was worried that whoever the next host ended up being “might not want me.”
“’The Daily Show’ thing is that, ‘Oh, Trevor left. Ok, well, what’s next for me whenever I leave?'” he told King on her SiriusXM show Thursday. “It may not be now, but when I leave, what’s going to be next for me? Huh? Well, what if they get a host that doesn’t want me?”
He also mentioned the uncertainty around the Paramount-cbs merger that was happening at the time of his resignation. “I don’t like to think like that and talk those things into existence, but we also live in an era where they will spend $100 million to shoot a movie and then not release it.

Last October, Roy Wood Jr. surprisingly announced he was leaving The Daily Show after eight years.
The main reason it was a surprise was that the Comedy Central series was still looking for a permanent host to replace Trevor Noah and no decision had been made at that point, meaning that Wood Jr. was at least in the frame to take the role.
However, the comedian, who is now hosting the U.S. remake of Have I Got News For You for CNN, told Gayle King why he decided to leave the storied late-night franchise.
Last night Roy Wood, Jr. was a guest on Gayle King’s SiriusXM program, where he spoke frankly about fear being behind his reasoning for leaving “The Daily Show,” and why he brought his son with him to clean out his office.

Gold Derby recently conducted a poll asking our readers to name their dream Oscar host for the upcoming 2025 ceremony, and the winner is — drumroll, please — Hugh Jackman! The Australian performer is having a banner year thanks to his movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” dominating the box office, and longtime Oscar viewers still fondly remember when he hosted the 2009 ceremony to great acclaim (watch a clip below).
As it turns out, Jackman is very much “in the mix” to serve as this year’s host alongside his superhero counterpart Ryan Reynolds. As our sister site Deadline reports, “The plan we hear would be to include them as part of a star ensemble of rotating hosts, each — or in pairs — doing a portion of the show, per a plan to shake things up.”

In a stark departure from its own corporate precedent and the usual circle-the-wagons approach of news divisions in crisis, top execs at CBS News parent Paramount Global have publicly disagreed this week.
At the center of the situation was an interview last week with author Ta-Nehisi Coates on CBS Mornings. While co-hosts Gayle King, Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil all sat in on the chat, Dokoupil drew criticism for dominating and pressing Coates on the section of his book, The Message, that criticizes Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. Dokoupil, who is Jewish, challenged Coates on whether he believed the state of Israel had a right to exist.
CBS News brass addressed the matter during a staff call Monday featuring Adrienne Roark, the president of editorial and newsgathering, and Wendy McMahon, president of CBS News and Stations. They told employees that Dokoupil’s questioning did not meet the news division’s “editorial standards.

The chair of Paramount Global, Shari Redstone, is backing CBS Mornings co-host Tony Dokoupil after a contentious interview last week with author Ta-Nehisi Coates.
“I frankly think Tony did a great job with that interview,” Redstone said on Wednesday. “I was very proud of the work that he did. Yes, as hard as it was for me to go against this company, I think they made a mistake here.”
“I just want to be clear that I’ve been working with the CEOs,” the mogul elaborated. “I’ve been working with the woman who does a lot of our diversity training, and I think we all agree that this was not handled correctly, and we all agree that something needs to be done. I don’t have, you know, editorial control. I am not an executive, but I have a voice in our platform, like all of us.”

Ta-Nehisi Coates offered more thoughts on his much talked-about CBS Mornings interview in a trailer for the next episode of the What Now? With Trevor Noah podcast, suggesting that host Tony Dokoupil “commandeering” the interview didn’t serve his colleagues Gayle King and Nate Burleson well.
In a three-minute trailer for the next episode, Coates is asked about the CBS interview last week that covered his new book The Message. Noah begins by relaying to Coates his own anger at the tone and line of questioning Dokoupil aimed at the author over his writings about the Israel-Palestine issue. “I very seldom get angry on people’s behalf, but man, we haven’t been able to stop talking about the CBS interview,” Noah said. “I don’t think you understand the shock wave that interview created, not because of what you said, but because of the way people felt like you were treated.

Louis Theroux is aware it sounds a little like he’s joking, but he’s quite serious.
“I find the podcast studio, in certain respects, a more intimidating location than being in a prison or a maximum security mental hospital,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “I know that sounds maybe like a joke, but I’m someone who has always sought comfort and refuge by being on location and surrendering to the flow of actuality. In the podcast space, you absolutely have to be prepared.”
The British documentarian is beloved in the U.K. and beyond for travelling across the world — often the U.S. — and conducting, in a perfectly Theroux-esque manner, investigative interviews with people on the fringes of society. From cults and religious fanatics to swingers and sex offenders, there isn’t a lot of ground the BBC broadcaster hasn’t covered.

Hasan Minhaj is looking back at the gig that almost was.
In an interview with Esquire published Wednesday, the comedian reflected on once being the front-runner to succeed Trevor Noah as the host of The Daily Show. But after The New Yorker published a profile last year alleging that Minhaj embellished and made up his onstage anecdotes for his comedy, the offer for the gig was taken away. Jon Stewart went on to replace Noah, appearing on the show once a week.
“We were in talks, and I had the gig, and we were pretty much good to go,” he told Esquire. After the story was published, Minhaj was called and told the job was no longer his.
“It went away,” he said. “That’s part of showbiz.”
In addition to losing the hosting job, Minhaj explained that the “most painful thing” about the public scrutiny that followed was how it impacted his family.

Hasan Minhaj is crediting Jon Stewart for understanding his “painful” experience after his now-infamous New Yorker interview.
The feature, which was published in September 2023, alleged the comedian embellished his stand-up act, including fabricating or exaggerating racist encounters with the FBI and an anthrax scare involving his young daughter.
Minhaj claimed that the New Yorker article cost him “The Daily Show” hosting gig. Former “Daily Show” host Stewart instead returned to the Comedy Central series after Trevor Noah exited.
Minhaj recently told Esquire that it was Stewart who actually “encouraged him to make something hilarious from the experience, telling him, ‘This is great for you,'” according to the publication.
“When Jon told me that, I felt really seen,” Minhaj said.
The “It Ends with Us” actor recalled the moment he realized the New Yorker piece was going sideways.
“Halfway through the interview…I was saying, you put this here and do that.

Jon Stewart is hoping that Trevor Noah may eventually return to The Daily Show — as long as they can share the spotlight.
“Am I being fired?” he joked in response to a reporter’s question backstage at the Emmys about whether he’d want to welcome the show’s other former host back to the desk. In all seriousness, though, he added: “That’d be lovely. The more the merrier.”
Stewart joined the rest of The Daily Show crew after their Outstanding Talk Series win at the 76th annual ceremony. He said that, while he’s grateful for all the talent on stage, he’s convinced they’re operating on borrowed time because “the understanding is some other producer who has more money than basic cable is going to say, ‘Oh, that person can do something great for us.'”

The Daily Show was named best talk series at the 2024 Emmys on Sunday, winning the category for the second year in a row.
The 2023 Emmys saw The Daily Show win for the final season of Trevor Noah’s tenure as host — and the first time since Jon Stewart left as full-time host in 2015. Stewart is now back as a part-time host of the Comedy Central staple; his prior show, The Problem With Jon Stewart on Apple TV+, was nominated last year as well.
“To have the opportunity to work with this incredibly talented group … once a week, it’s really made my Mondays,” Stewart said in accepting the speech. He also gave props to his fellow hosts Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper (“they just kick ass”) and showrunner Jen Flanz, who has been with The Daily Show since 1998 and an executive producer for the past 15 years.
