As the massive promotional push for “Wicked” continues apace, a new featurette has provided audiences with the best look and listen yet at the Broadway adaptation’s musical numbers.
Going to great lengths to highlight how stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande sang live on set, the newly released video teases iconic “Wicked” sequences like “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”
“When we came into this movie, we weren’t sure how much we were going to do live or not,” said director Jon M. Chu in the teaser. “But they are the best singers in the world, so every scene they have been singing live.”
“We chose to sing live because it meant that we would be further connected to the words we were saying and to each other,” added Erivo.
“It was an immediate no-brainer for Cynthia and I. We both were like, ‘Well, of course, we’re singing live,...

JoJo Eusebio is making his directorial debut with the upcoming action comedy “Love Hurts.” Eusebio has spent nearly three decades coordinating stunts and choreography for blockbuster movies. He saw the directorial transition as a natural progression in his career.
The film stars Ke Huy Quan, known for his role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” as Marvin Gable. Gable is a successful real estate agent whose life changes when an ex-partner contacts him. Ariana DeBose co-stars as Rose, Gable’s former associate who is now a notorious crime lord.
The story follows Gable as he’s forced to confront his violent criminal past. He must face off against his brother Knuckles, played by Daniel Wu, who takes over the crime family business. Eusebio tailored the script to highlight Quan’s martial arts skills and action experience from his Hong Kong film career.
Despite being new to action roles, DeBose impressed the filmmakers in rehearsals.

‘Weeds’ Alum Hunter Parrish Joins Nicole Kidman in Amazon’s Mystery Thriller ‘Scarpetta’ (Exclusive)
Hunter Parrish has joined Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis in “Scarpetta,” an upcoming mystery thriller series from Blumhouse Television that has already been greenlit for two seasons by Amazon Prime Video.
The “Weeds” alum joins an ensemble that also includes Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale.
The series, an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels, hails from Blumhouse and Amazon MGM Studios. Liz Sarnoff will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
According to the logline, the show “follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), the chief medical examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.”
Parrish will recur as the younger version of Benton Wesley, presumably in flashbacks. Benton is an FBI profiler who strikes up a romance with Kay in the books.

Crime musical wins Oscar for Best Picture! That was “Chicago” 22 years ago, and it could be “Emilia Perez” this year. There are plenty of differences between the two films — they’re in different languages, for instance — but both explore unlikely subjects through song. In “Chicago,” you got a pair of murderesses trying to beat the rap and escape the hangman’s noose. And in “Emilia Perez,” you’ve got a Mexican cartel leader undergoing a gender transition to become her true self. “Chicago” was the big winner on Oscar night. Now “Emilia Perez” ranks among our top two contenders for the prize.
See‘Emilia Perez’ will officially campaign for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars
As of this writing “Perez” gets second-place odds of 17/2 in the race for Best Picture, according to the combined predictions of thousands of Gold Derby users. But it’s not too far behind front-runner “Anora.

Is Nicole Kidman the hardest working person in Hollywood at the moment?
In the last year or so, Nicole Kidman has starred in “A Family Affair” and “Babygirl.” On the TV side, she starred in “Expats” and “The Perfect Couple” and returns to Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness” for its second season, launching on Paramount+ on Oct. 27.
At the same time, she’ll be seen in Season 2 of the Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers,” the animated movie “Spellbound and the thriller “Holland, Michigan.” She also plays the title role in “Scarpetta,” Amazon’s upcoming series adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s mystery books, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose. She’s hoping to get a third season of “Big Little Lies” off the ground as well as a sequel to “Practical Magic.”

In a career filled with so many, Nicole Kidman is on another hot streak.
The Oscar-winner picked up a best actress prize last month at the Venice Film Festival for her critically acclaimed turn in Halina Reijn’s steamy Babygirl, only to see her new Netflix series The Perfect Couple rocket to the No. 1 spot on the streaming rankings days later. She next stars in the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Lioness, which debuts Sunday, and she’s just about to jump in front of cameras on Amazon Studios’ Scarpetta opposite fellow Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose and based on the Patricia Cornwell novel.
So, how is Kidman feeling about all the good work right about now? It’s complicated. “I wish my mama was here,” she told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday night while walking the red carpet at Hollywood’s Linwood Dunn Theatre.

Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan continues to write new chapters in his feel-good comeback story, and this latest one is as an action star in Jonathan Eusebio’s Love Hurts.
After a nearly two-decade hiatus from acting, Quan won an Oscar for his supporting role as Waymond Wang in Daniels’ best picture-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. It was a storybook second chance for an actor who grew disillusioned with acting, opting to quit and enroll in USC’s film program. It wasn’t until watching 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians that he felt the urge to test the waters for any new opportunities.
In Love Hurts, Quan’s character, Marvin Gable, is one of Milwaukee’s best real estate agents, and he, too, has also been enjoying his own second bite of the apple until his much darker past as a hitman comes back to haunt him. In the lead-up...

Ke Huy Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose, a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.

Sony Pictures recently concluded their New York Comic-Con panel with an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ showcasing an electrifying 8-minute opening scene.
Although the complete footage is being kept under wraps until next week’s trailer release, leaked clips and new images are already circulating online.
The intense sequence introduces Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, navigating a brutal hunt inside a prison, where he dispatches enemies with shocking savagery. The violent action includes graphic deaths involving a bear trap, an axe, and a tree stump that gruesomely splits one of his victims in half.
Taylor-Johnson describes Kraven as “an apex predator, the top of the food chain,” emphasizing that while the character sees himself as a hunter, not a poacher, his methods take a sinister turn when applied to humans.
This dark and violent tone lays the groundwork for a chilling narrative in the film.

Sony Pictures' New York Comic-Con panel has just finished up, and the first 8 minutes of Kraven the Hunter was screened for those in attendance.
The footage has not been officially released (we are expecting a new trailer early next week), but a few snippets have leaked online along with a couple of new promo stills.
The opening sequence sees Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) stalking and killing multiple foes in a prison, and the violence is said to be surprisingly gruesome. A second clip was also shown, with "multiple very brutal kills" including murder by bear trap, axe, and tree stump - which reportedly splits someone straight down the middle.
"He's an apex predator, the top of the food chain," said Johnson. "Kraven's a hunter, not a poacher. Like every hunter knows, sometimes you have to cull the herd to preserve order. Of course, when he starts applying that to human beings,...

Even though “Venom: The Last Dance” is his final outing in the Sony Spider-Man villain trilogy, Tom Hardy still really wants his iconic symbiote character to fight Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Hardy took the stage at New York Comic Con Friday night to showcase his upcoming movie, which hits theaters next week, and said he’s ready to fight Spider-Man “today.”
“I would love to fight Spider-Man. I would love to fight him now. I’m happy to fight Spider-Man today, 100 percent. I would never say never,” he said. “We were specifically set up to bring Venom to a movie format, and that’s what we’ve done. ‘The Last Dance’ is the final piece in that trilogy and we’re really excited about that.”
Hardy returns one last time as Eddie Brock, the human half of the Venom symbiote, in “The Last Dance” after starring in two standalone movies.

Gold Derby recently conducted a poll asking our readers to name their dream Oscar host for the upcoming 2025 ceremony, and the winner is — drumroll, please — Hugh Jackman! The Australian performer is having a banner year thanks to his movie “Deadpool and Wolverine” dominating the box office, and longtime Oscar viewers still fondly remember when he hosted the 2009 ceremony to great acclaim (watch a clip below).
As it turns out, Jackman is very much “in the mix” to serve as this year’s host alongside his superhero counterpart Ryan Reynolds. As our sister site Deadline reports, “The plan we hear would be to include them as part of a star ensemble of rotating hosts, each — or in pairs — doing a portion of the show, per a plan to shake things up.”

Excitement for Kraven the Hunter appears relatively muted among comic book readers, though its R-Rating has at least piqued the interest of violent action movie fans. Of course, when a title leans too much into that, it runs the risk of feeling schlocky.
While the Sony Pictures movie has already received an R-Rating in the U.S. for "strong bloody violence, and language," it appears we can expect it to be a hard R.
The British Board of Film Classification has just rated a new Kraven the Hunter trailer "18," a strong indication that the movie itself will boast the same rating.
This means that, in the UK, no one under the age of 18 will be able to watch Kraven the Hunter. It's rare for a movie to be slapped with an "18" rating, and it obviously limits the number of moviegoers who are able to buy a ticket.

Between The Bear, The Menu, Boiling Point and now House Of Spoils, it has never looked less appetising to be a chef. What's coming to our screens is back-breaking, stressful work judged by ungrateful customers and snooty critics. As a celebrated New York chef-patron tells us in House Of Spoils’ opening scene, “To be a chef, you've got to love the taste of blood. You've got to love the fight.” And then follows that ominous advice with a line that would have even Remy from Ratatouille abandoning his aprons: “I gotta remember to not just cook with my head but with my balls.”
Unsanitary cooking advice and toxic workplaces aside, things get considerably worse for House Of Spoils’ Chef (Ariana DeBose). Nefarious forces set upon her new rural fine-dining restaurant, and having employees that can't tell a monkfish from a chicken prove to be least of her problems.

You'd be forgiven for forgetting that Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters later this year since Sony Pictures has barely marketed the movie at all following the release of Madame Web, but two months out from release, promotion has finally picked up with a red-band TV spot.
Though most of the footage has carried over from previous teasers, there are a couple of new shots of Aaron Taylor-Johnson's titular "villain" in action as he does some bloody damage with a bear-trap.
Earlier this year, the studio moved the Kraven to the prime winter spot of December 13, 2024. The movie had been pushed back several times already, after initially being set to release in October of last year.
The dreadful box office performance of Madame Web has to have given Sony cause for concern, and if Kraven tanks, it may be the final nail in the Ssu's coffin.

Heath Ledger’s turn as The Joker in 2008’s The Dark Knight remains one of the most chilling performances of this century, the actor eventually winning a posthumous Oscar for the defining portrayal of The Clown Prince of Crime. Based on peeks and teases, we knew we would be in for something special when the film came out. And so did Ledger himself, fully aware just how powerful the performance and The Dark Knight would be.
Recounting working with Heath Ledger on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Andrew Garfield (Anton) remembered the star telling him about his go as The Joker. “He had just done the Joker, he had just finished doing The Dark Knight, and he was so smug about it. I was like, ‘How did that go?’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s really good.’”

Kraven the Hunter is fast approaching and excitement...well, it's tepid at best. Based on what we've seen from the movie, it's giving off serious Morbius and Madame Web vibes, something that was evident from the mutant Rhino who debuted at the end of the latest trailer.
An international trailer has surfaced today and, while it's light on new footage, we do get a few blink-and-you'll-miss-them snippets here and there (including more of Kraven's battle with the Rhino).
With Venom: The Last Dance set to arrive in theaters later this month, it probably won't surprise you to learn that Sony Pictures also plans to drop a full-length new trailer for Kraven the Hunter at some point in the coming weeks.
That's been confirmed by a BBFC classification of a new 90-second sneak peek; while this will play in front of the Venom threequel, we'd be shocked if there's not...

The upcoming indie feature “Tow,” starring Rose Byrne and directed by Stephanie Laing, is being scored by Este Haim of the band Haim and composer Nathan Barr, Laing’s representatives tell TheWrap.
The film, which Laing both directed and produced, stars Rose Byrne in a telling of the true story of unhoused woman Amanda Ogle. The Seattle resident had to fight to put her life back together in a story centered around her battle with a tow company, sparked when she received a tow bill for $21,634.
Beyond her work with sisters Alana and Danielle in Haim, Este has also composed for both film and television. She’s also been Grammy-nominated while Barr is an Emmy Award winner, taking a trophy home for his theme for Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “Hollywood.”
“Going into the studio with Nathan was like going to Disneyland every day,” Este Haim said in a statement.

While the Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often awarded to an ingenue, like the 2022 winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”), it can also be a way to reward a more seasoned performer. In 2024, Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Leftovers”) won on her first nomination A year earlier Jamie Lee Curtis had reaped her first Oscar bid at age 64 and prevailed for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” In 2021 Youn Yuh-jung, who is renowned in her native South Korea, won at age 73 for her first English film, “Minari.” And in 2020, the academy honored past nominee Laura Dern who finally took home an Oscar for her scene-stealing performance in “Marriage Story.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Supporting Actress.)
While Dern was clearly a featured player in her picture, two of her rival nominees, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie, could easily have submitted themselves in lead for their roles in “Little Women” and “Bombshell” respectively.

A surprisingly clever riff on a familiar recipe, Prime Video’s “House of Spoils” seems like a dark fairy tale you could make better yourself — at first. Part “The Bear” and part “The Witch,” this supernatural horror outing follows a nameless Chef (Ariana DeBose) in an allegory about ambitious women that lacks bite but isn’t without its own special sauce.
Writer/directors Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy broke out with their tenacious crime thriller “Blow the Man Down” in 2019 and show a well-earned confidence in this imperfect but still occasionally enchanting first-time genre effort. The duo’s second feature builds on a bare-bones concept that feels more rudimentary than rustic much of the time, and yet, the filmmakers’ decisive presentation is enjoyable enough as an entrée served straight to streaming.

Plot: Follows an ambitious chef as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self-doubts… and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.
Review: The restaurant business is murder. If The Menu and The Bear did not give us enough insight into the stress, anxiety, and sheer psychological warfare of being a chef, Gordon Ramsey and every cooking reality competition should have made it abundantly clear that the artisans that create haute cuisine are emotionally broken by the work they love. The latest Blumhouse offering, House of Spoils, takes the work of starting a restaurant to a new level with a tale of supernatural cookery that may have you rethinking any upcoming reservations at a fine dining establishment. Led by Ariana DeBose, House of Spoils presents a conventional horror yarn through a distinctly epicurean lens.

We discuss the similarities between a restaurant kitchen and a film set, she talks about the character, and how she finds peace in her most stressful moments. We also, obviously, talk a little about food.

A film headlining a chef and overtones of witchery are combined in Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy’s “House of Spoils.” The garden both inspires and holds secrets to yesteryear’s terror. What does all the foliage hold in themselves? The directors attempt a dark mystery, but the film squanders it freely, cobbling together a lazy plot that spruces up an explanatory flashback to bolster a story of female agency and determination.
The narrative fizzles out quickly, saved only up to a degree by its lead, Ariana DeBose, who admittedly works a tad too zealously. It’s the case of an actor so stubbornly convinced she can single-handedly rescue a terribly clueless script that her presence, despite being the sole sincere spot, starts to stand out in some other distracting register.
The film suffers from a muddled sense of focus, a complete imbalance between sudden directions, and the more...
