In a sport where personal achievements take precedence, it is worth mentioning the role of tennis coaches can sometimes snuck under the radar.
Even though tennis players compete independently, their success relies on the collective efforts of their coaching team. The Wta does an excellent job of recognizing the men and women pulling the strings behind the scenes who are equally responsible for players' performance.
The Wta is commemorating its annual Awards Week to celebrate the standout performers of 2023 - not just players but coaches too. Iga Swiatek, crowned the Wta Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, has a case for a double celebration.
Swiatek's coach Tomasz Wiktorowski bagged the 2023 Wta Coach of the Year award, which was voted for by Wta registered coaches. Wiktorowski is one of the sharpest tennis minds from Poland and has been working with Swiatek since the start of the 2022 season.

Iga Swiatek is confirmed as the first entrant in the 28-player draw at the 2023 Japan Open in Tokyo.
The news was confirmed by the tournament's social media pages. They will welcome the world number one for the 38th edition of the Wta tournament which is set to be played in the week beginning September 25th and running till October 1st, 2023.
The Toray Pan Pacific Open returned to its usual spot on the calendar last autumn following a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, as almost the entire Asian swing was wiped off in that time span. It will be Swiatek's first Wta event in Tokyo.
Swiatek's schedule after the US Open isn't clear, but she'll most likely play the Wta 1000 in Guadalajara before flying to Tokyo. Bringing Swiatek to Japan is certainly a major coup for the tournament which traditionally has previously welcomed some of the world's best players including former No.

Indian Wells (USA), March 14 (Ians) World No 1 Iga Swiatek narrowly escaped Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 7-6 (1) to reach the Round of 16 at Indian Wells Masters in breezy, heavy conditions, here.
After playing a terrific match, Andreescu couldn’t contain Swiatek in the tiebreak, losing seven of eight points on Monday night.
“She changed the rhythm pretty well and with this surface it can get tough. But I’m pretty happy I was solid most of the time, at least. And that I could be recomposed in the tiebreaker because I really knew that I could get my focus up. I’m even glad that I got a chance to kind of play under pressure some more and see how I’m going to cope with it,” Swiatek was quoted as saying by Wta.
“I feel like the vibe is similar to the US Open, so, yeah, for sure playing under pressure it’s tough,...

Brisbane, Dec 31 (Ians) World No. 1 Iga Swiatek showed no signs of rust in her first match of the 2023 season, defeating Yulia Putintseva 6-1 6-3 at the United Cup and giving Poland a 1-0 lead but Timofey Skatov later registered a win to level the tie for Kazakhstan, here on Saturday.
With Polish great Agnieszka Radwanska looking on from the captain’s box, Swiatek needed just three games before finding the rhythm and range that made her the runaway 2022 Wta Tour Player of the Year.
Putintseva earned an early breakpoint chance in Swiatek’s first game, but the Pole coolly erased it with pinpoint accuracy.
“I’m pretty happy with my performance. First matches of the season are always rusty. I was happy that in the important moments I was really composed,” Swiatek said.
Under pressure again while serving at 1-1, 0/30, Swiatek found another gear to reel off 12 consecutive points to build a 4-1 lead.

Princess Kate’s admiration for tennis is written all over her face!
The sports-loving royal couldn’t hide her excitement as she was introduced to handsome Austrian player Dominic Thiem (ranked world No. 7!) at Wimbledon on Monday.
While meeting with a few players ahead of the first matches of the day, the royal, who debuted a short new hairstyle, asked Dominic, 23, and Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland, ranked World No. 10, whether they were anxious about their upcoming sets.
When she learned they both weren’t scheduled to play until Tuesday, she smiled and replied: “That’s why you’re so relaxed!
