George Lucas got candid about criticism of the first six “Star Wars” films during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday.
When speaking about the success of the franchise ahead of receiving the festival’s honorary Palme d’Or, Lucas reflected on some of the negative comments he’s received over the years.
“They would say, ‘It’s all white men,'” Lucas said of the films’ critics. “Most of the people are aliens! The idea is you’re supposed to accept people for what they are, whether they’re big and furry or whether they’re green or whatever. The idea is all people are equal.”
Lucas went on to say that the only beings in the “Star Wars” universe who were discriminated against were the robots.
“That was a way of saying, you know, people are always discriminating against something and sooner or later, that’s what’s going to happen,...

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most decorated filmmakers of all time. He has helmed numerous films, such as Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction, which have gone on to achieve a sort of cult-like status among film buffs. The director has teamed up with the crème de la crème of Hollywood, and the efforts have always paid off, delivering memorable projects every single time.
Tarantino and Walton Goggins collaborated on The Hateful Eight in 2015, to a similar effect. The film was hailed by critics, and it even went on to win an Academy Award. It enjoyed a good run on Netflix, but it is set to leave the streaming platform this month, much to the dismay of fans.

Actor Ron Thompson, best known for starring alongside Robert Blake in the ABC crime series Baretta and his performance in the iconic 1981 film American Pop, has died. He was 83. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thompson was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment on Saturday afternoon (April 13). He was discovered by his friend and former co-worker Joe Black, a filmmaker who worked with Thompson on Hate Horses (2017), Chicks, Man (2018), Suffrage (2023), and many other projects. No cause of death was given. “For a man of his age, he was so full of life; he had such a presence,” Black told THR, referring to Thompson as “the Sam Jackson to my Tarantino.” Born on January 31, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky, Thompson moved with his family to Miami in 1945 and soon became fascinated with acting, especially after seeing Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront. Thompson’s first acting gig came in 1960 when he appeared as...

Ron Thompson, the unheralded actor who starred on Broadway for Charles Gordone in the Pulitzer Prize-winning No Place to Be Somebody and played father and son musicians for Ralph Bakshi in the animated cult classic American Pop, has died. He was 83.
Filmmaker Joe Black told The Hollywood Reporter that he found Thompson in his Van Nuys apartment on Saturday afternoon. The two had worked together in eight features, including Hate Horses (2017), Chicks, Man (2018) and Suffrage (2023), and Black visited him a couple times a week to help him out.
“For a man of his age, he was so full of life, he had such a presence,” Black said. He called Thompson “the Sam Jackson to my Tarantino.”
In 1969, Thompson originated off-Broadway the role of Shanty Mulligan in the Joseph Papp-produced No Place to Be Somebody, starring Ron O’Neal, then accompanied the drama to Broadway and on a tour around the country.

Plot: Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer whose crimes match an unsolved case that he looked into 5 years previous in Chicago.
Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.
The story follows Detective Lawson (Samuel L. Jackson) as he travels to Scotland to help with a case. Someone is recreating the murders that Lawson investigated back in Chicago five years prior,...

Actor Walton Goggins collaborated with Quentin Tarantino for the 2015 feature The Hateful Eight. And although he had a good time on set, Goggins asserted that the experience could be a bit nerve-racking due to who he worked with.

Goggins and Tarantino already collaborated before the 2015 movie The Hateful Eight. The pair worked together on Django Unchained, where the pair became familiar with each other on set. But beyond Django, Tarantino was also a fan of Goggins’ work on Justified. Given how much he enjoyed the actor’s performance, there was little wonder as to why Tarantino would recruit Goggins again for The Hateful Eight.
But Hateful Eight would have Goggins act alongside even more star-power than Django Unchained did. And Goggins admitted that could be overwhelming at times.

Yesterday, we shared a new interview with director Renny Harlin that mostly focuses on his latest film, the action movie The Bricklayer, which was given a theatrical, On Demand, and Digital release earlier this month. But the interview also branches out with mentions of other Harlin projects, including the 1999 shark thriller Deep Blue Sea (watch it Here), which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. During his conversation with JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray, Harlin revealed that Samuel L. Jackson’s character – and therefore the famous scene involving that character – was added into the script at the last minute.
Harlin said, “The whole scene has its roots in the fact that I had done Long Kiss Goodnight with Sam, and we sort of made a pact that we would always work together as often as we can. So then Deep Blue Sea came up and Sam called me and he’s like,...

"The Marvels" arrived in theaters last week, and the enthusiastic and delightful Iman Vellani couldn't be more relieved to finally be talking about it. After landing the lead role of Kamala Khan, who becomes the titular "Ms. Marvel" in the Marvel Studios TV series on Disney+, Vellani has brought youthful exuberance and excitement to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she teams up with her superhero idol Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). But that's not all, because Carol's adoptive niece, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), is also back and all grown up with superpowers after a strange incident in Marvel's "WandaVision," creating an occasionally tense but mostly entertaining dynamic between the three female heroes.

If you’ve kept tabs on the conversation surrounding The Marvels, then you’ve likely noticed that Iman Vellani’s Kamala “Ms. Marvel” Khan is unanimously considered to be the scene-stealer of Nia DaCosta’s superhero team-up pic. Vellani picked up where she last left off on her Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, which is also generally regarded as one of Marvel Studios’ best outings on the streamer. Much of Kamala’s journey parallels Vellani’s own MCU experience, as both went from leading typical teenage lives to becoming superheroes overnight.
In The Marvels, Kamala can’t get over the fact that she’s fighting alongside her idol, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), but along the way, she recognizes Carol’s flaws and learns a valuable lesson that Vellani has also learned during her MCU tenure.

Tom Hiddleston Says ‘Loki’ Season 2 Finale Is the ‘Conclusion’ to His 14-Year Marvel Journey (Video)
Following the show’s Season 2 finale, “Loki” star Tom Hiddleston appeared on “The Tonight Show” and told Jimmy Fallon that the episode marked the end of his 14-year journey with Marvel.
Fallon had Hiddleston on as his first actor guest who could talk about one of his big projects following the SAG-AFTRA strike ending.
Hiddleston was careful not to reveal too much, telling Fallon, “If you haven’t seen it, I will not spoil it for you, but I will say this: It all comes full circle.”
“It’s the conclusion to Season 2 … It’s also the conclusion to six films, and 12 episodes, and 14 years of my life,” Hiddleston said.
Hiddleston noted that he was 29 when he was first cast as the villain, eventually turned antihero if not hero — he’s now 42.

Samuel L. Jackson is a legendary actor, an anime connoisseur, the man with a thousand franchises, and the baddest guy alive. Jackson is responsible for some of the most iconic characters in modern cinema, and also one notorious potty mouth — even if Jonah Hill is the one with the record for most cursing in film — which made his role in "Star Wars" more than a bit strange.
When he was first introduced in "The Phantom Menace," Mace Windu spent most of the runtime sitting on a chair in the Jedi Council Chamber, talking down to Anakin and not much else. It wasn't until "Attack of the Clones" that Mace Windu finally reached the potential of a "Star Wars" character played by Samuel L. Jackson, wielding the first purple lightsaber in live-action "Star Wars," being a badass that stops parties, and giving us some of the best fighting moves in the prequels.

2024 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the Renny Harlin shark thriller Deep Blue Sea (watch it Here) – and some fans feel the best way for distributor Warner Bros. to celebrate would be to release the film’s original ending. There’s a petition to let Warner Bros. know there’s interest in this idea, and the campaign has not only earned a show of support from the film’s star Thomas Jane (who said it would be “kinda fun” to see if fans can get the studio’s attention), but even a financial contribution from Harlin, who felt his contribution might help with the legitimacy of this fan movement.

Samuel L. Jackson has starred in several hit blockbusters, making his films some of the highest grossing projects seen in cinema. Only a few, like Harrison Ford, have managed to rival or surpass Jackson’s combined box-office intake.
But Jackson felt all he needed was to appear in one more Indiana Jones movie to secure his rank.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the finale of Marvel’s Secret Invasion.
Marvel’s Secret Invasion wrapped up on Wednesday, though little — if anything — is actually resolved. In fact, it appears that Earth might just be worse off than it was before Nick Fury came back from space to save the day.
This is your last warning to stop now if you don’t want to be spoiled on the finale of Secret Invasion.
Episode 6, titled “Home,” begins right where the previous episode left off. Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) had given Fury (Samuel L. Yes, he knew he’d have to pass the Nick Fury baton to Nia DaCosta’s upcoming film, The Marvels, but the handoff never distracted from the story he was telling involving an aging Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his struggle to stop a Skrull rebellion that he’s responsible for to some degree.
“They’re not protracted conversations [with The Marvels team]. It’s just simply, ‘Where do you need him? You need him here? Great.’ And then we write into that. So that kind of stuff is very simple because it’s all above my pay grade,” Selim tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Warning: Spoilers for Episodes 1 and 2 of Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” below.
“Secret Invasion” director Ali Selim praised Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle for their work in the restaurant scene in Episode 2 of the Disney+ series, in which James Rhodes confronts Nick Fury about the explosion in Moscow at the end of Episode 1.
“Don Cheadle and Sam Jackson had wanted to work together for years and never had and they had a meaty lengthy scene together,” he told TheWrap. “That was one of the highlights of my career just to watch them work.”
During a press conference earlier this month, Cheadle teased that Rhodey is more of a “political animal” than fans have seen in the past.
“He’s been more of a military man, but now he’s sort of, in some ways, a right hand of the president and this special envoy, in that regard,” he explained at the time.

In the second episode of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, “Promises”, we take a trip down memory lane to the 1990s, where a painstakingly de-aged Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) indoctrinates the refugee Skrulls he helped rescue from the Kree into being helpful little human-presenting foot soldiers. It’s nauseating! We know Nick isn’t perfect and how manipulative he can be, but it seems like this series really wants to expose more of what he’s been capable of over the years to get the job done.
We meet a younger version of Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), and see that he is beginning to form a connection with Talos’ daughter, G’iah (Emilia Clarke). Unlike G’iah, Gravik is an orphan, and Nick initially pushes back on recruiting a child soldier to his cause, but it doesn’t take much to convince him. He promises the gathered...

The recently-released streaming series ‘Secret Invasion’ boasts of a subversive tone which is a trademark of Marvel. While describing the show, director Ali Selim said, “I think that the series has a really interesting subversive Marvel tone that takes it and flips it on its head, which I think will challenge, surprise and please the audience and give them something unique and different.”
Elaborating on the story, Ali said, “It goes back to Nick Fury. It’s the Nick story. And Nick is a human. Whatever we think about his trench coat and his eyepatch and how cool Sam Jackson is, Nick Fury is a human. He’s a human with a certain kind of power, but not a superpower like Captain America or Captain Marvel. So, that immediately demands a more grounded, gritty series.”

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson collaborated with each other in the film The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel. But for Reynolds, his castmate Jackson was the main attraction for the feature.
Ryan Reynolds only wanted to do ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ with Samuel L. Jackson Ryan Reynolds | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Reynolds was already familiar with Jackson before their 2017 action film Hitman’s Bodyguard. The actor had a chance encounter with Jackson while working on another project.
“Sam is someone I’ve known for 12 years,” Reynolds said in a 2017 interview with the LA Times. “We met in physical therapy. I was training for Blade 3 and I was having my shoulders fixed, and he was having something else fixed. I would see him there every day.”
Jackson had already taken a liking to his future co-star, revealing himself to be a fan of Reynolds’ own work as well.

Scarlett Johansson is known for her popular portrayal as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But there was another comic book film Johansson starred in that didn’t have the most flattering outfit.
Scarlett Johansson felt squeamish wearing this costume for her critically panned superhero movie Scarlett Johansson | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Before Johansson made her Marvel debut in Iron Man 2, the actor experimented with another comic book movie called The Spirit. The film was based on a 1940s comic strip about a crime fighter, and was adapted to the big screen by Frank Miller.
Miller was mostly known for his contributions to the comic book industry with graphic novels like The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City. He offered a bit of assistance on the 2005 film adaptation of his Sin City comic which was directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Quentin Tarantino has apparently closed the book on Rick Dalton, the actor portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.
Tarantino made the announcement via The Video Archives podcast, which he hosts with Pulp Fiction cowriter Roger Avary. A series of tweets announced the death, and indicated that Tuesday’s podcast will be “a memorial episode designed by Quentin that features some of Rick’s best roles.”
The Video Archives podcast is where Tarantino and Avary “revisit classic films on VHS and discover new favorites.” New episodes arrive every other Tuesday usually, but apparently the schedule has been speeded up to accommodate the breaking news.
Tarantino has previously mapped out Dalton’s life. In 2021, he told podcaster Jeff Goldsmith that he had a biography set.
“I wrote The Films of Rick Dalton book,” he said. “It’s written as if Rick is real. You know, they have...

Chris Pratt and James Gunn have never been happier to do press together.
As has been well-documented, there was once a time where they weren’t going to get the opportunity to cap their Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy with one another, so the chance to share a few more laughs and bust each other’s chops is all the more satisfying, especially before Gunn departs the MCU for the Dcu.
Any day now, Pratt also expects to hear from another MCU mainstay, the lovably foul-mouthed Samuel L. Jackson, since Peter Quill landed the MCU’s first F-bomb in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But the Minnesota-born, Washington-raised actor admits that the whole situation is a bit overblown, much like when network shows such as NYPD Blue and Chicago Hope were lauded for saying the word “shit” for the first time on broadcast television.

Hollywood star Chris Pratt is “proud” to be the first person to drop an F-bomb in a Marvel movie. The actor, 43, attended the world premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in Los Angeles Thursday, where he spoke with Variety about using the expletive in its entirety for the first time ever within the superhero franchise, reports People.
“Yes, I do drop the first F-bomb. Take that Samuel L Jackson!” Pratt said, referencing how fellow Marvel costar Jackson, 74, is known for using the F-word in his movie career.
As Pratt’s co-star Elizabeth Debicki asked if the curse word was in the script, the actor replied: “No, it was not. It was not scripted.”
“Everyone’s been trying to improv F-bombs for 10 different years … and finally one made it in,” Pratt continued.
“Usually when you start dropping F-bombs in like an improv scenario, it’s really your indication to...

The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Super Mario Bros. Movie actor Chris Pratt once appeared on Live with Kelly as a co-host. He showed up looking correct for the job at hand, displaying a humble and down-to-earth side of himself off the silver screen. Pratt accidentally gave away a sizeable travel prize, but he didn’t retract his statement. Rather, he agreed to pay for it along with Kelly Ripa.

Pratt didn’t always have the most favorable public image. He was recognized for his philanthropy in the form of donations to causes, such as March of Dimes and a teen center. Christina Ricci revealed Wednesday that as a young actress she was once threatened with legal action for pushing back against filming an intimate scene in a specific way.
The “Yellowjackets” star’s admission came during her appearance on “The View,” as she and the hosts were discussing the strides that have been made in Hollywood for young actresses. Ricci started acting at a young age, becoming a household names thanks to projects like “Casper” and her take on Wednesday Addams in “The Addams Family” and its sequel.
When asked by host Sara Haines how specifically Ricci thinks the acting landscape is different for young actresses now — specifically her adolescent co-stars on “Yellowjackets” — Ricci noted that a big step forward has come in the area of bodily autonomy on screen.

So here we are at the final Skins episode of series six and the last-ever regular episode. The series has, overall, been fascinating, entertaining, enjoyable and generally pretty great, and I’m pleased to report that the finale holds up well.
We start off with Mini (Freya Mavor) lying in the hospital after last week’s near miscarriage. Yes, she is still pregnant and the baby is fine. Also, her friend Liv (Laya Lewis) is there with her, keeping her company.
Meantime, Franky (Dakota Blue Richards) is shown returning home after last week’s adventure. We watch as she proceeds to trash her dads’ room, and eventually uncovers her adoption records. She takes them and flees, hitching a ride with a trucker to take her the long distance from Bristol to Birmingham.
Back in Bristol, Nick (Sean Teale) and Matty (Sebastian de Souza) are sitting in...

So welcome to one of the last episodes of Skins and the first to air since the network announced the cancellation of the show last week. Well, sort-of cancellation, anyhow. They will be doing three hour long specials next year, which should let us catch up on each of the generations. That will be nice.
Anyhow, this episode focuses on Liv (Laya Lewis) and her problems dealing with Grace’s death. Yes, even all these episodes later, we’re still dealing with fallout from that, which I suppose isn’t unreasonable, but it’s taken up a lot of time this season. We also get quite a lot more male nudity than usual, and, so…yeah. There’s that.
We begin at school with everyone learning about their final exams. Liv is there physically, but mentally she’s a million miles away, and as soon as the exams notice is done,...

So last week Grace shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the likes of Chris and Freddie on the Skins Death Roll. I’d really hoped the producers would manage to go an entire generation without killing off anyone. I mean, most mainstream dramas manage to find a way to kill less people than this show does. But we must deal with the world as it is, and not as we want it to be.
This episode sees the introduction of a new character, Alex (Sam Jackson). I’m not sure why they waited until now to introduce him, what with there being only a few episodes left with this generation, but that’s ok.
We start with a close-up of a map showing Russia, which gives me a nice flashback to Tony and Maxxie’s tender moment on the continent. From there we go to...

Skins UK: Series 6 Trailer, Opening Credits, and Pics
It's a new year, which means that a new series of E4's highly addictive Skins is right around the corner. And we can hardly wait.
2011 was a tumultuous year for the world of Skins, given that the franchise was being hit from all cylinders in both positive and negative ways. First, there was the premiere of not only the Third Generation characters on the flagship UK show, but also the premiere of an American version of Skins, which aired and faltered on MTV after only one disastrous season. Also, the 4th and 5th series of Skins UK were not aired here in America after three successful seasons on BBC America. Thankfully, Skins found a home on Netflix's Instant Watch for those lucky souls who have the dough for such a service.

The Skins Series 5 gang are all set to return along with a new character, Alex, played by Sam Jackson (a member of Northern Film and Drama, now represented by Hamilton Hodell) from Leeds, when Skins returns to E4 for a sixth series this January.
Sam said of his character: “Alex is at first very mysterious, I think he comes across as quite elusive and you’re not really sure what he’s all about. He’s very charismatic and confident in himself and is very flirty, he flirts with both genders, and doesn’t care.
"He comes into the series at a point where the gang are a bit down, they’re very unhappy and he finds it difficult to make friends with the gang, they don’t really like accepting someone new but he manages to befriend Liv who takes a shine to him and you see their friendship...
