Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 08-24-2016
Recently I put up an article here on Lrm about getting into Batman for new or casual readers (and to an extent, some of the more regular comic book readers out there). I broke it down to three good jumping on points, of which Tom King’s "Batman: Rebirth #1" was used. Now with some of the "Rebirth" books getting near issue six, I can say almost (Almost, not All!) all of the official "Rebirth" books have been an excellent introduction to the series for new readers. On that front, DC has been hugely successful (and the sales numbers are showing it). While continuity is still a bit funky, and events within titles don’t really seem to match up in a macro sense, each individual series has been a blast to read. While I am still reading Marvel books,...

Bloody fanatics! The Sons of the Harpy. The Faith Militant. The Sand Snakes. Melisandre's Boobs. Extremists are taking over "Game of Thrones" Season 5. In Episode 4, "The Sons of the Harpy," the bells tolled for what looked like both Ser Barristan Selmy and Grey Worm. But maybe not. A certain scene was teased in the trailer that we haven't seen yet, concerning Missandei and Grey Worm. (See end of post) Either that's on his deathbed or he makes it.
But Daenerys Targaryen appears to have lost Ser Barristan -- her best friend, protector and adviser -- just as her former adviser, Ser Jorah Mormont, is sailing back to her with another potential ally in Tyrion Lannister. Oh, Ser Barristan. Apparently he is truly gone, since actor Ian McElhinney talked to Entertainment Weekly about his final scene. This is still another major twist from the book, but maybe Rhaegar is waiting for Barristan with a song.

Warner Bros. Animation continues to pump out movie straight to DVD DC Comics movies, and today it's been announced that they are developing Justice League Doom which will be inspired by Mark Waid's Tower of Babel storyline.
The story finds Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg and Batman on their heels when a team of super villains discover and implement the Dark Knight’s “contingency plans” for stopping any rogue Justice League member. The film stars the voice talent of Nathan Fillion, Kevin Conroy, Michael Rosenbaum and Tim Daly.
The DC comics animated movie are hit and miss for me. Some I like other I hate. The most recently film I saw was Batmas: Year One, and even though the animation was good, I didn't care for how it was brought to life. The direction was off, especially with the voice acting.

Castle hit the jackpot this week, as a trip to Atlantic City resulted in yet another fun-filled hour of television.
What did our Round Table panel of Courtney Morrison, Jim Garner, Chandel Charles and Christine Orlando think of "Heartbreak Hotel?" We're so glad you asked! Find out now.
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene?
Courtney: This is a tough one because there were several small moments throughout the hour that were awesome. The boys' drive to Atlantic city, Alexis' party, and the Elvis scene were all great, but if I had to choose one, I'm going with the drive to AC. Castle's Ibpwoc (Impromptu Bachelor Party While On Case) and Esposito's disappointment that he wasn't going to be Ryan's best man were classics. Plus, how can you not love that Castle called shotgun and got to ride up front and made the real cop sit in the back.

Cha-ching! Another winning episode for Castle. The latest installment centered around the murder of a co-owner of an Atlantic City casino, giving the boys a chance to throw a bachelor party for Ryan; and for Gates and Beckett to spend some time together. So get ready to make a bet. Let's discuss and debate "Heartbreak Hotel."
Case Time. How much fun was this investigation? The boys were pretty much front and center, taking the lead down at The Sapphire. One thing this season has continued to deliver is more screen time for Ryan and Esposito and they have totally been pulling it off. A couple weeks ago we had Esposito dressed like he was on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and now we had some Elvis impersonators. This was classic Castle. How could you not laugh out loud at the three of them in their Elvis costumes? Loved it.

Castle Casino Boss for Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic
Do you know what Castle could really use? An episode entirely devoted to exploring a casino, giving Castle (Nathan Fillion) a chance to cut loose a wee bit while solving murders. And we have just the guy to play the owner of such an establishment. You’ll recognize him from his past role on Desperate Housewives and his recent casting as Brooke’s father on One Tree Hill. Can’t think of who it is?
All right, I’ll tell you; it’s Richard Burgi!
According to aoltv.com, Burgi is shooting his episode of Castle this week. The official description for the episode, #408, goes as follows. “When a murder case takes Castle, Esposito and Ryan to Atlantic City — becoming half investigation and half bachelor party for Ryan — they question the casino co-owner (guest star Richard Burgi) in connection with the crime.
