Silas Howard may not be a household name yet, but he still gets recognized on the subway. One recent spring afternoon in New York, an admirer stopped the filmmaker to tell him how much his work meant to him as a trans actor. Howard greeted the fan warmly, encouraging him to get in touch, and said that he would pass along his information to people looking for trans actors. Even as one of the most influential trans directors working today, Howard remains firmly connected to the community that raised him.
“I am not offended by being brought trans stories. I’m pretty stoked about that,” said Howard, when asked if he worries about being pigeonholed. “If they’re doing it for the wrong reasons, that’s okay. I would be really excited to work in trans stories for the rest of my life.”

It’s not every day that cinephiles can watch porn that stimulates them — artistically, that is. Unless you attend a live screening of Hump! Film Festival, the amateur porn festival started by sex columnist Dan Savage.
Lynn Shelton fans are already familiar with the fest, thanks to 2009’s “Humpday,” which told the story of two straight guys who decide to make a gay porn and submit it to Hump! (Fun fact: After Savage challenged Shelton to submit her own indie porn film to Hump!, The director accepted, and the resulting film won an award at the festival.)
Hump! features short, dirty films that are each under five minutes. Per the festival’s website: “Our carefully curated program is a cornucopia of body types, shapes, ages, colors, sexualities, genders, kinks, and fetishes—all united by a shared spirit of sex-positivity… Hump!’s main mission is to change the way America sees—and makes and shares—porn.

In case you are one of the few people who managed to savor the latest season of “Transparent,” rather than watching all ten episodes in one or two sittings when they came out last Friday: Racy spoilers ahead.
The cast spoke to IndieWire about Sarah’s (Amy Landecker) meltdown in front of her professional dominant, and Josh’s (Jay Duplass) pursuing a trans woman (the very talented Trace Lysette in a breakthrough role). What’s clear from speaking to these seasoned actors is that they don’t blink when taking on difficult scenes; mostly because of the singularly supportive environment created by revolutionary “Transparent” creator/producer/writer/director Jill Soloway.

“I’ve never been on a set like it,” Jeffrey Tambor, who plays Maura, told IndieWire. “It’s the safest environment I’ve ever been in.

Washington, Apr 28: A college in western Massachusetts has gone one step ahead by inviting a porn star to speak.
Williams College's speaker, Jiz Lee, is described in the college calendar advertising the event as "an award-winning genderqueer performer, author, artist and pleasure activist." Friday night, a sample of the performer's work is scheduled to be shown on campus followed by a discussion with students.
Some have been shocked by the graphic description of the porn star's talents.
"For me I think the biggest question right now is a matter of whether the event has academic.
