The Other Black Girl will not return.
Hulu has canceled the comedy series based on the book of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First put in development in April 2020 before Tara Duncan signed on to serve as president of Disney’s Bipoc-focused studio Onyx Collective, the 10-episode satirical comedy about the publishing world dropped its full season in September to impressive reviews. The series currently has an 86 percent rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences seem to have rejected The Other Black Girl with that score sitting at a lackluster 50 percent among viewers.
Danielle Henderson (Sorry for Your Loss) originally was set to serve as showrunner but was ultimately replaced by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey. Exec producers on the series included Onyx’s Duncan, Rashida Jones, Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach and author Harris.

If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted spy adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will make your head spin, Argylle is set to make its streaming debut later this month. Although director Matthew Vaughn has plans for sequels, he stated that he wanted to wait and see how the first film fared. Unfortunately for Vaughn, it wouldn’t become a success at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. After its low performance, the star-studded action comedy will hope to find a second life as it premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, April 12.

Do you know the truth behind the identity of Agent Argylle? Matthew Vaughn's action rom-com for Apple starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sam Rockwell first debuted in theaters on February 2, 2024, but the film is already going to be available to watch at home just over a month later. Centered around a reclusive, cat-loving author named Elly Conway (Howard), the woman finds herself at the center of an espionage thriller right out of the novels she's written when a real-life spy named Aidan (Rockwell) realizes that her books reflect the actions of an actual spy organization. The film itself has been extremely polarizing, with the majority of critics disliking the picture, although /Film's own Ethan Anderton aligned with the majority of audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and liked it quite a bit!

Francis Ford Coppola‘s 1974 masterpiece “The Conversation” will be remade as a TV series, with “Margin Call” and “All Is Lost” filmmaker J.C. Chandor attached to both write and direct the series, IndieWire has confirmed.
Chandor will direct via his CounterNarrative Films banner alongside Temple Hill, producer Adam Fishbach, and executive produced by Coppola’s American Zoetrope. Erin Levy, known for her work on “Mad Men” and “Mindhunter,” will be the showrunner on “The Conversation” remake.
MRC is the studio behind the series, and the company optioned the TV remake rights directly from the Coppola estate.
Despite a rumor that Aubrey Plaza was attached to star, no cast is involved at this stage, as a source close to the project tells IndieWire. Other media reports suggested it would be a limited series and that it was set up at a network, but it is being envisioned as an ongoing series,...

Is fiction imitating or dictating real life? The answer’s difficult to tell in the wild first official trailer for Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films’ Argylle. The ensemble includes Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Lifetime Achievement Oscar winner Samuel L. Will the real Agent Argylle please stand up?
The trailer for Apple TV+ film “Argylle,” directed by Matthew Vaughn, centers on reclusive writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose spy action hero Argylle (Henry Cavill) seemingly comes to life.
The stranger-than-fiction twist, reminiscent of “The Lost City,” leads Elly on a series of adventures with very real spies, led by Sam Rockwell, as her novel hits too close to their reality. Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson also star.
For “Barbie” fans, “Argylle” marks a reunion between fellow ensemble cast members Dua Lipa and Cena, who played the mermaid and merman dolls.
“Argylle” follows the globe-trotting adventures of super-spy Argylle across the U.S., London, and other exotic locations.

The first trailer for “Kingsman” and “X-Men: First Class” filmmaker Matthew Vaughn new spy film “Argylle” has arrived, and it’s hardly what anyone expected. The trailer begins as a standard spy thriller with Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa getting into some sexy spy shenanigans, but then the story pulls back to reveal they’re characters in a book written by a spy novel author played by Bryce Dallas Howard.
The problem? What she thinks is fiction is actually happening, and now real-life spies are after her for outing their dealings.
Sam Rockwell plays one of those real-life spies who seemingly takes Howard’s character under his wing, but then the trailer promises a jaw-dropping twist within the film by asking audiences not to spoil the secret.

The first trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s spy drama Argylle dropped Thursday morning, and in the clip, we see more of the director’s trademark slick action and more of Henry Cavill’s disconcerting haircut.
The trailer offers more clues as to the plot of Argylle. We learn that Argylle (Cavill) is a fictional super spy dreamed up by introverted writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose life is turned upside down when her new book is a little too close to the truth for some real-life spies who begin to hunt her down. Oh, and her cat is along for the ride.
The Apple Original Film/Universal pic is familiar territory for Vaughn, with his last three films, the Kingsman trilogy, all taking place in the spy genre and all featuring his irreverent sense of humor.

It’s safe to say that no actual cats were harmed in the making of the Argylle teaser trailer. The quick clip from the fantasy spy thriller shows Sam Rockwell releasing an adorable cat as he and Bryce Dallas Howard stand on the roof of a building. The teaser promises we’ll get a better idea of what Argylle‘s all about when the full trailer arrives on September 27, 2023.
The cast also includes Henry Cavill (The Witcher), John Cena (Peacemaker), Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Grammy winner Dua Lipa (Barbie), Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Oscar nominee Samuel L. Every minority in the good old U.S. of A has heard or internalized that damaging myth: There can only be one. One model minority, one diverse member of the team (or cast) — and in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl,” one editorial star at Wagner Books, as long as she falls in line. The 10-episode thriller (available all at once) is a faithful and gripping adaptation that will leave viewers exhilarated, entertained, and wanting more — especially from star Sinclair Daniel.
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Zakiya Dalila Harris, “The Other Black Girl” centers on Nella (Daniel), a rising editorial assistant whose world gets rocked in good and bad ways (and some in between) with the arrival of — you guessed it — a second Black girl in her workplace. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey serve as co-showrunners and executive producers along with Harris, Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Tara Duncan,...

The Other Black Girl is poised to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year.
Hulu dropped the official trailer for its adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris' best-selling novel on Wednesday, and it's as unsettling as expected.
"Nella, an editorial assistant, is tired of being the only Black girl at her company, so she's excited when Hazel is hired," the logline reads.
"But as Hazel's star begins to rise, Nella spirals out and discovers something sinister is going on at the company."
It's a compelling description, and the trailer nails what the above describes, so that's a good thing.
Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais star.
The Other Black Girl is executive produced by Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.

Hulu released the trailer Wednesday for “The Other Black Girl,” adapted from the best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris.
The series will follow Nella (Sinclair Daniels) who joyfully leaves her loneliness behind as the only Black employee at a publishing company, Wagner Books, when Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) gets hired as an editorial assistant like Nella.
Suddenly, all of Vera’s (Bellamy Young) demands become less grueling when she can share the experience of being Black at a majority white-staffed company with Hazel — until things get weird.
“Wagner’s just … you’ll see,” Nella tells Hazel at first in the trailer you can watch above.
Right as Vera tells Nella that she is ready to recommend a promotion to assistant editor from editorial assistant for Nella, some sinister things start happening that only Nella feels like she is aware of.

Sinclair Daniel gets rightly paranoid about her workplace as she faces a series of sinister events in the debut trailer for Hulu’s psychological thriller The Other Black Girl, set for a streaming release on Sept. 13.
The original series, from Onyx Collective and based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ 2021 best-selling novel, revolves around Nella Rogers (Daniel), an editorial assistant in a starkly white New York City publishing house who is tired of being manipulated and marginalized as the only Black girl at her company.
So she gets excited when Hazel-May McCall, played by Ashleigh Murray, is hired and sits in the office cubicle behind her own. But as Hazel becomes the office darling at Wagner Books, Nella spirals and discovers something sinister is going on as she is left in the dust.

Showtime has announced the release date of their upcoming limited series “Fellow Travelers,” starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. The eight-episode drama will premiere on Oct. 27.
Created by Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner and based on Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name, “Fellow Travelers” is both a romance and a political thriller, depicting the secret relationship between two men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a man with a lucrative behind-the-scenes job in politics, and Bailey plays an idealistic, religious young man. Their romance begins at the same time that Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants.” The show tracks the protagonists over four decades, through the Vietnam War protests, the drugs and disco of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

‘Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies’ Creator Calls Paramount+ Cancellation “A Particularly Brutal Move”
The creator of the Paramount+ series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies says she is “devastated” that the series is not only canceled but will be removed from the streaming service.
Earlier Friday, Paramount+ canceled several of its original series, including Pink Ladies as well as Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe and The Game. The streamer is also taking the series off the platform as a content write-down.
Reacting to the news, creator Annabel Oakes wrote on her Instagram Stories: “In a particularly brutal move, it is also being removed from @paramountplus next and unless it finds a new home you will no longer be able to watch it anywhere. The cast, my creative partners, and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”
Oakes thanked the “beautiful fans” who have engaged with series and reminded them that “the music will remain even after the show is taken down.

Apple Original Films is making more moves in the theatrical space. The streaming service is teaming with Universal to give the Henry Cavill spy thriller Argylle a Feb. 2, 2024, exclusive global release.
It’s the latest high-profile feature that Apple has opted to grant a theatrical window ahead of its streaming debut. The company is already teaming with Sony to put Ridley Scott’s Napoleon into theaters this Thanksgiving, while it has Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon due out Oct. 6 via Paramount.
Until this year, streamers have been hesitant to give films a traditional theatrical release. However, major theater chains won’t play a title unless it has an exclusive window (generally, that means 35 to 40 days). In April, Amazon put its Ben Affleck feature Air in theaters before its streaming debut.
Argylle hails from Mathew Vaughn, who produced the film via his Marv banner. Jason Fuchs penned the script.

Like “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon” before it, a third Apple movie, “Argylle,” will get a wide theatrical release before heading to streamer Apple TV+. Also like the other two, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller starring Henry Cavill has its own unique theatrical-distribution partner: Universal Pictures.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers,” released by Paramount Pictures, and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon,” distributed by Sony, will both hit theaters this fall. “Argylle” will open in theaters on February 2, 2024; we do not yet have streaming-premiere dates for any of the three.
Jumping around between theatrical-distribution partners is an unusual strategy. One would expect that Apple would cut a deal with one theatrical partner, but that hasn’t happened — yet — and it’s starting to feel like tryouts.
Alternatively, Apple could easily just buy a studio; it’s the world’s largest company by market cap. Apple rival Amazon, the second-largest company in the world by market cap,...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theatres closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studio’s respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that pandemical brink, the motion picture studies have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” music producer and songwriter Justin Tranter says their prolific career actually started with a passion for musicals.
“Musicals are why I started making music as a kid. Even though I was in a rock band and now I make pop music, musicals are why I started making music in the first place,” the Grammy-nominated songwriter told Variety at the Paramount+ series’ premiere Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Tranter has worked with Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, the Chicks, Leon Bridges, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, just to name a few.
After “fighting hard” to join “Rise of the Pink Ladies” and providing demos for showrunner Annabel Oakes, the two then teamed up with choreographer Jamal Sims for the series. Along with some co-writers, Tranter wrote and produced 30 original songs for the 10-episode season.

The Los Angeles premiere of the new Paramount+ original series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” was held on Wednesday, March 29 at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43. The musical series takes place four years before the original “Grease.” In 1954, before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever. The show will premiere on Thursday, April 6, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.

Before there was Sandy and Danny, there was — well, Rydell High was still pretty musical. But the Pink Ladies were just finding their way. In Paramount+’s new series, fans are set to see the beginning of Rydell’s coolest female clique, and how it was originally created specifically for the outcasts.

Are you ready to witness the rise of the Pink Ladies?
Paramount+ debuted the full-length trailer for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies this week, and it features all the singing and dancing you'd expect from a project set in the Grease universe.
The clip debuted Tuesday on The Drew Barrymore Show during "Drew's News" with Drew Barrymore and co-host Ross Matthews, along with special appearances by cast members Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, and Tricia Fukuhara.
Truthfully, the series looks like a movie, and the plot seems like something that can be told in around two hours, so unless there are some changes along the way, the show might not stand the test of time.
The Grease franchise -- sans Grease 2 and those pesky live editions -- are near and dear to fans, so expectations will be high to set a show in that universe.
As previously reported,...

DeMesier is a Hofstra University, Hb Studio, and Ucb graduate whose credits include “Cobra Kai” on Netflix, “American Soul” on BET, “Watchmen” on HBO, “Queens” on ABC and the CW’s “Legacies.” She is repped by Jacob Lawson with Privilege Talent Agency.

Sound the bell because school is in session, and the original girl gang, the Pink Ladies, are ready “to do bad to be good!” Parmount+ dropped the Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies teaser trailer on Monday, marking the return of the Rydell High School’s peppy, prissy, and prodigious Pink Ladies. They’re here to rule the school and dance their way into your heart again in Paramount’s new series.
Set in the mid-50s, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies revolves around Jane (Marisa Davila), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara). The story takes place four years before the original film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and focuses on a group of outcast women who refuse to conform to society’s norms. Proudly displaying themes of feminism, diversity, and independence, the Pink Ladies strive for equality while busting sweet moves on the streets.

“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” will debut on Paramount+ on Thursday, April 6 in the U.S. and Canada, Paramount announced on Monday at the Television Critics Association presentation.
In the teaser trailer for the series, which stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Tricia Fukuhara and Ari Notartomas, also dropped on Monday, we see the girls being advised by Jackie Hoffman’s assistant principal, “Be careful with whom you associate. A lady’s reputation is all she has.”
That advice goes unheeded, as the Pink Ladies decide, “Sometimes, you gotta be bad to do good,” before declaring, “Things are about to get wild.”

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association’s 2023 winter press tour, Paramount+ debuted new teaser art for the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard,” which premieres on Feb. 16. During the panel about the series however, the team behind the series didn’t seem so sure that this would be the end.
“Who knows?” executive producer Alex Kurtzman said when asked about the ending of the series, with star Patrick Stewart saying that if the show could “maintain the work quality” of the first three seasons, he would be open to reappearing. He also noted that the storylines of the final season intentionally “leave doors open.”
The series stars Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, who he played for seven seasons of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd also star.
