Outwit, outplay, outlast. The basic formula for competing on “Survivor” hasn’t changed since the reality series made its debut on May 31, 2000. Contestants continue to be divided into tribes and forced to form a new society as they adapt to their physical and social surroundings. Players still have to compete in challenges, build their social game and face the elements and hear host Jeff Probst yell his signature phrases like “You gotta dig deep!” and “Wanna know what you’re playing for?” — and they still have to look into his eyes while he utters the dreaded phrase “The tribe has spoken.”
While the essential gameplay of “Survivor” hasn’t changed throughout 44 seasons played over 23 years, the game certainly has evolved. A myriad of new twists and advantages, the 39-day format shortened to 26 days, and the evolution of the contestants themselves have led to the long-running series having...

Over the course of its 44 seasons, “Survivor” has hosted hundreds of immunity challenges where individual players could win the opportunity to save themselves from elimination at tribal council. Since 2000 when the reality TV show began, 15 different contestants have won at least four immunity challenges. However, five of those castaways prevailed five times, a record that has never been broken. In our “Survivor” gallery above, we spotlight those with the most immunity wins in a single season.
Despite four others winning just as many as he did, Colby Donaldson from Season 2 has bragging rights as not only the first player to win five times, but also the only one to do so consecutively. Like Kelly Wiglesworth before him, Colby played the game at a point in time where challenge wins were not held as in high regard as they were later, leaving him in runner-up position to a more social game-focused player in the final vote.

“Survivor” originally started as a show about a group of strangers who had no knowledge of each other before the game began. However, things have changed a bit through the years. Beginning with “Survivor: Guatemala” (Season 11) and the casting of ex-NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom, CBS’s reality TV show has featured notable figures from the world of sports, entertainment and beyond, some of whom are identifiable by other castaways on the island with them. Tour our gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see the dozens of “Survivor” celebrity cast members who had some level of fame prior to competing on the program. Which ones did you recognize before their seasons ever aired?

Tori Meehan makes ‘Survivor’ history by winning first 2 individual immunity challenges of the season
Over the course of the first 21 years and 41 seasons of “Survivor,” only one woman had won the first two individual immunity challenges of her season: Laura Morett in 2009’s “Survivor: Samoa.” Now, her long-standing record has been tied by Tori Meehan, who just claimed back-to-back victories in the first two individual immunity challenges of “Survivor 42.” Talk about girl power!
One caveat in mentioning this record is that Laura’s initial immunity win was actually awarded to the best performing male (John Fincher) and female (Laura) of that specific challenge. Tori didn’t have to share either of her two immunity necklaces, which puts her truly in a league of her own when it comes to making “Survivor” history.

Beach rental business owner Jonathan Young has big dreams for his “Survivor” experience. As one of the 18 new castaways playing on “Survivor 42,” the 29-year-old Alabama resident intends to “win more immunity challenges than anyone ever has,” outdoing the likes of Colby Donaldson, Tom Westman, Terry Deitz, Ozzy Lusth, Mike Holloway and Brad Culpepper, who each won five in a single season.
It is unlikely that Jonathan will indeed amass six Immunity wins, but he is confident in his physical abilities, hoping this will make him a valued tribemate. “I’ve basically trained for this moment,” he says, noting that he spearfishes “almost daily” (watch below). As one of the most visibly buff contestants of the bunch, he knows that his tribemates may judge him in a certain light. “The first impression everybody’s getting is going, ‘Look at this big guy. I wonder what he can do,'” predicts Jonathan.

In a game of strategy and social bonds, challenge strength remains an important component in “Survivor” 20 years later. Opinion is split on how much value there is in Immunity Challenge wins, but more often than not, they have helped players beast their way to the end and even with the $1 million prize. Examples include Tom Westman (“Palau”), Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), Kim Spradlin (“One World”) and Mike Holloway (“Worlds Apart”).
Other challenge beasts are able to win a bunch of challenges but just come up short in the end. Colby Donaldson is one of the original cases of this, and we have seen players like Ozzy Lusth, Terry Deitz, Spencer Bledsoe and Brad Culpepper do the same, without claiming the title of Sole Survivor. Then there are players like Joe Anglim, who are just so good at challenges that they must be voted out the minute they lose an Immunity Challenge.

The smiling, even-tempered Wanner is a departure from the scrappy, confident player fans watched this season -- and who even declared, "We have complete control of this game. There is not a line drawn in the sand. There is a land drawn in concrete," before being voted out. But as Wanner explained to Et over the phone on Thursday, once she saw her name written down at tribal, she prepared...

Season 34 of Survivor has certainly been unpredictable.
For weeks, fans have been reeling from the emotional tribal council where contestant Jeff Varner outed his tribemate Zeke Smith as transgender. In an exclusive sneak peek clip that aired on Wednesday’s People Now, members of the majority alliance contemplate the benefits of getting rid of one of two competitors: Andrea Boehlke and Michaela Bradshaw.

With 128 days in the books, Ozzy Lusth has officially played Survivor more than any other contestant ever -- and he's also the only one to play four times and never win.
The 35-year-old surfer spent his shortest time on the island this most recent go-around (24 days), after being eliminated on Wednesday night's second episode.

Last week's episode of Survivor: Game Changers was a big moment for Jeff Varner and Zeke Smith, but also one for the rest of the Nuku tribe -- including Ozzy Lusth.
The four-time Survivor player was sitting right next to Varner when he outed Smith as transgender during tribal council, and nearly 10 months later, can still recall the intense "shock" he felt that night.

Survivor season 34 might have the subtitle of Game Changers but from the start it was questioned whether most of the cast earned that moniker. One of the most confusing inclusions to the Game Changers season was Brad Culpepper. Brad wasn't only a pretty early elimination on his initial Survivor season, he was up for voting in Survivor: Cambodia and the audience didn't want to see him. The longer Game Changers goes on Brad hasn't seemed like a revolutionary player but he has greatly improved over his initial season. Now that Survivor: Game Changers is entering the last half of the season with the merge on the horizon, Brad Culpepper is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, threats in the cast.

Zeke Smith admits there were some things he wanted to keep to himself when he signed up for not one, but two seasons of Survivor.
That all changed on Wednesday's episode of Survivor: Game Changer when fellow castaway, Jeff Varner, outed him as being transgender during the tribal council portion of the show. Varner was promptly voted off the island, unanimously.
"I’m not wild about you knowing that I’m trans. An odd sentiment, I realize, for someone who signed up for two seasons of the CBS reality giant, Survivor," Smith admits in an op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter. "See, when I got on a plane to Fiji last March, I expected to get voted out third. I’d return home, laugh at my misadventure, and go about my life, casually trans in the same way that Zac Efron is casually Jewish."

But this is a unique situation that falls outside the normal boundaries," Probst told Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday. The cast for Survivor: Game Changers is a bit confusing. While the collection of returning players should make for an entertaining season, since second-time castaways always play the game harder than their first go-around, the subtitle of Game Changers is a misnomer. While there are a few standouts and some rather remarkable contestants from Survivor history, very few of them have "changed" the game. There are even a handful (like Tai, Caleb and Brad Culpepper) who have no business being in an All-Stars-esque season.
There are several players who fall somewhere between the huge threat level of contestants like two-time winner Sandra and bizarre non-entities like Debbie. These players are the really dangerous ones. In no particular order, here are five of the most promising, and for their fellow castaways most threatening, returning players in Survivor: Game Changers.

2016-10-05T13:24:12-07:00'American Horror Story' Already Renewed for Season Seven
We're only three episodes into the sixth season of FX's American Horror Story, but the network has already ordered a seventh season. The announcement of the series' renewal came this week as Ahs continues to be the highest-rated scripted series on cable TV.
"Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining, and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment," the network said in a statement.
The current season of Ahs debuted to big ratings, most likely because of a clever marketing campaign that kept the season's theme a mystery throughout the summer off-season. The season's first episode drew a very impressive 2.8 rating in the 18-49 age demographic. That was much better than the...
