Hey, wanna see a CG Sonic battle an evil live-action Dr. Robotnik? Then director Eddie Lebron and the Blue Core team have you covered in January when their Sonic the Hedgehog fan film will make its debut at Maryland's MAGFest gaming convention with an online premiere January 9th, 2013.
The not-for-profit 25-minute short is the latest fan project from Blue Core who back in 2010 produced a Mega Man fan film. This time out, they've brought actor Jaleel White onboard to voice the hedgehog almost 20 years after he played the role in the animated series.
According to the Blue Core Studios page, the short will serve as a prequel to the first game, with disparate elements drawn from throughout the series' canon across various media. Hopefully, none of these elements involve a semi-romantic relationship with a human princess, because that stuff was weird.

It’s true. There is a live action, fan made, feature length (94 minutes!) Mega Man movie. Written, directed, and produced by one Eddie Lebron, the non-profit film is a great effort for a fan film. But that is really its only distinction.
The first 45 minutes or so are a series of painful character and story establishing dialogues that drag on for what seems like eternity. I mean, I can understand that with the budget available, the cast and crew were trying to make the best of the locations and props available. The acting is what makes it unbearable.
If you’re anything like me, when you think of Mega Man, it brings to mind battles across the huge lairs of the epic Robot Masters, culminating in a showdown with the infamous Dr. Wily. While all of this does take place later on in the film, by the time I got...

In the annals of fan film history - that strange and peculiar place where die hard fans create their own film versions of their favorite characters - there are films that scarcely deserve the label, films so poorly executed that they never should have been shown to the general public. And there are also films so well done that they have, at times, outdone the 'official' film versions of their subjects and gone on to launch professional careers. Which pole does Eddie Lebron's Megaman fall closer to? I leave that to you to decide.
