Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead took first place in the inaugural #OscarsFanFavorite contest, put on by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to showcase more popular movies and announced Sunday during the Oscar telecast.
The competition, kicked off in a year when the Oscars’ theme is “Movie Lovers Unite,” was undertaken via votes on Twitter.
Army of the Dead, which streamed on Netflix, finished first in the fan voting, followed in order by Amazon’s Cinderella, American International Pictures’ Johnny Depp-starrer Minamata, box office record-breaker Spider-Man: No Way Home from Sony and Netflix’s Tick, Tick…Boom!.
The winner of the prize does not win an Oscar, but Academy and Oscarcast producers have been trying to find a way to inject more known movies into the show, which has seen declining TV ratings.

For the time being, his mountains of cash are safe behind his impenetrable casino vault; however, the US President plans to nuke the entire city in less than 96 hours. Now, Tanaka is willing to pay $50 million to the decorated former mercenary, Scott Ward, and his hand-picked team to retrieve the money before the bomb obliterates the city. Exclusive: Netflix has another feature hit on its hands in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead which is on its way to becoming one of the streamer’s top 10 most watched movies, bound to notch 72M viewing households in its first four weeks.
Army of the Dead, which repped the streamer’s widest theatrical release in 600 theaters prior to its drop on the service last Friday, May 21, ties with George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky as the 9th most watched feature on Netflix. The zombie ensemble movie was No. 1 overall in 70+ countries and the top film in 90+ countries.
One has to give credit to Netflix: At a time when streamers including Disney+, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO Max are shielding their viewership figures, the Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos led entertainment company, and Scott Stuber led film studio, is actually disclosing results on the success of its movies and TV series.

To start this review I will just state, I am a big fan of Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake, so I was hopeful that this would be more of the same. While this may not be the case, what Army of the Dead gives us is a welcome dose of crazy zombie action in typical Zack Snyder style.

Netflix spent at least “a few million” dollars to reshoot Chris D’Elia’s Army of the Dead role in the wake of accusations made against him, according to filmmakers Zack and Deborah Snyder.
In a Vanity Fair interview published on Friday, the Snyders spoke about the decision to have actor-comedian Tig Notaro take over D’Elia’s helicopter pilot part. They also broke down the challenging process of inserting her into a film that had long ago been shot without any other cast members present.
Director Zack Snyder said that the decision to recast D’Elia’s part was “a fairly easy one,” though his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, acknowledged that it was also “an expensive one.” The millions spent by Netflix went toward the digital erasure of D’Elia from footage, as well as reshoots with Notaro last September, and visual effects work that would seamlessly integrate her into scenes,...

With Memorial Day weekend looming, what better time to kick back and enjoy and a noisy action blockbuster. That’s the way movie fans marked the beginning of the Summer season, well, in those before times. Sure this week’s new blockbuster began running on several screens last weekend, but the main focus of its marketing right now is about its “dropping” on a major streaming service (several would say “the streaming service”). It, however, “changes up” the usual formula for thrillers, aside from its distribution, since it’s another “high-concept hybrid”. You see this is a modern-day action heist flick, complete with the all “big plan’ and assembling the team. Y’know like the main variations, reboots, and sequels to Ocean’S Eleven. So what’s the twist? Well, the big “window of opportunity” for the “grab” is opened due to a big disaster, though not a natural one like...

It’s been nearly 17 years since Zack Snyder last dipped his toes into zombie-centric waters with his brilliant Dawn of the Dead remake, but now he’s back, and this time, he’s taking on hordes of the undead who stand in the way of an ambitious group heist in an abandoned but overrun Las Vegas teeming with flesh eaters for Army of Dead. Netflix has debuted the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s zombie heist movie ‘Army of the Dead’.
The film takes place following a zombie outbreak that has left Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world.
When Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), a displaced Vegas local, a former zombie war hero who’s now flipping burgers on the outskirts of the town he now calls home, is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada), it’s with the ultimate proposition: Break into the zombie-infested quarantined zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault beneath the strip before the city is nuked by the government in 32 hours.
Driven by the hope that the payoff could help pave the way to a reconciliation with his estranged daughter Kate (Ella Purnell), Ward takes on the challenge, assembling a ragtag team of experts for the heist. They include Maria...

In the trailer for Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead,” Dave Bautista leads a team of mercenaries sent into Las Vegas in order to swipe $200 million from an abandoned casino vault.
The only problem is, the whole city has been ravaged by an army of undead warriors, and they’ve even got a zombie tiger to defend the city and keep the humans from getting out alive.
“They’re not what you think they are. They’re smarter, they’re faster, they’re organized,” one of the soldiers says in the “Army of the Dead” trailer.
“Army of the Dead” was directed, produced and co-written by Zack Snyder, who even served as his own cinematographer on the film. The film finds Las Vegas in ruins and walled off from the rest of the world. In the film, Bautista plays a displaced Vegas local and former zombie war hero who...

Netflix is expecting big things for Zack Snyder’s first directorial effort since a family tragedy forced him to step down from 2017’s “Justice League.” While Snyder’s next movie, the zombie horror comedy “Army of the Dead,” won’t hit the streaming platform until next year, Netflix is already planning a franchise around the title. The company announced Thursday that it has ordered a prequel film and an anime series set in the same universe.
