Vijay Rathinam

From Madras, India, Vijay is a sound design specialist with well over
nine years of experience collectively in Indian motion picture and
British television industries. Vijay has worked in more than 70 south
Indian feature films as a sound editor performing various roles in the
audio industry. After working in the Indian industry, he felt the need
to be educated, which made him immigrate into Great Britain. In Britain
he pursued a master's degree in advanced music production, which he
completed with distinction. During his time at Glamorgan University, he
developed and mastered his skills on sampling, synthesis, recording,
sound editing and mixing with cutting edge modern and Vintage
technology. His master's project was about role and implementation of
sound in Indian cinema for which he received a distinction.
Soon after his graduation he was offered a sound editor role at Inspire GLG (an animation tele-film studio based in Worcestershire, England). At Inspire GLG, Vijay worked in "Boblins", "Odd-Jobbers" and "Amber's Animals". "Boblins" and "Odd- Jobbers" are currently being broadcasted in more than 17 countries around the world including UK, Canada, Australia and France. "Amber's Animals" (yet to be released) was the sixth most screened show in MIPCOM fest-2008 (Annual international tele-film festival held at Cannes). After working with Inspire GLG Vijay moved on to Taylor Drew productions and was a key member in the development of their new series "Sofi on safari". Taylor Drew Productions is now renamed as Blink animation. Vijay has recently moved back to India for higher challenges in audio industry and has joined the well renowned AM Studios as a sound designer, but he still works as a sound designer with other clients all around the world. Vijay also worked on "Sofi on Safari" (animated TV series) and soon to be aired "Olly the little white van" (animated TV series) in addition to his Indian film projects. Vijay is also very passionate in teaching audio at a higher level and hence he joined the well renowned SAE (school of audio engineering) Chennai, India as a guest lecturer for recording arts. At SAE Vijay contributed to curriculum development, classroom lecturing and evaluation. Vijay also lectured in Kurukshetra 2013 (India's Largest Technological fest- conducted by Anna University- Chennai). He also guest lectures at Muzik Lounge ( Audio engineering school- chennai).
In 2012, December, Vijay met Mr. Wilfried Van Baelen, CEO of Auro Technologies in AM Studio Chennai. He then visited Galaxy Studios (The place where Auro 3D was invented) and learnt about Auro 3D. He sound designed the first Indian film (Maryaan) where Auro 3D workflow was used from the sound editing stage.
Vijay strongly believes 3D sound is the future and joined Auro Technologies as senior audio engineer/ product manager for India. Currently he is incharge in creating awareness about Auro technology among film directors, music composers, sound engineers and Sound designers in Indian film industry. He also offers them technical solutions when they are producing their films in Auro 3D formats.
Vijay has always been passionate about audio in film, television and music and he strongly wishes to contribute his knowledge and skills in challenging opportunities and he is always open to new ventures.
Vijay handles all sound engineering projects, bringing creative solutions to interesting problems. He also maintains an extensive sound library and is constantly updating and adding to it, as new technologies become available to capture sounds in new and improved ways. Vijay is also well experienced in most genres of music production and takes production roles in tandem to his sound design work.
