Sheffield DocFest has selected 50 projects for the 2024 edition of MeetMarket, its pitching event for documentary films at development, production and rough cut stage.
Titles in the selection include Rachel Close’s One Of Us, a Romanian film in co-production with the UK. The film sees UK-Romanian filmmaker Close travel to Romania to help a stranger search for her birth mother. The project is produced by Monica Lazurean-Gorgan, who previously produced Berlinale 2023 selection Between Revolutions, and Elena Martin.

Peter Murimi’s documentary to launch on digital platform Bohemia Euphoria.
Bohemia Media has acquired UK, Ireland and North America rights to documentary I Am Samuel and plans to launch it on upcoming streaming platform, Bohemia Euphoria.
The feature directorial debut of Kenyan journalist Peter Murimi is an intimate portrait of a queer Kenyan man and his partner, and their experiences in a country where their love is criminalized. The documentary previously played at the UK’s BFI Flare and London film festivals.

Bohemia Media has secured UK and Ireland rights to Rebel Dykes, a documentary set to receive its world premiere at BFI Flare: London Lgbtiq+ Film Festival (March 17-28).
The London-based outfit, launched last year by Phil Hunt and Lucy Fenton, struck the deal with Riot Productions and plan to release the film in virtual cinemas this June.

Exclusive: Entertainment accountancy firm Nyman Libson Paul (Nlp) is launching new venture Goldfinch Pictures Ltd, dedicated to supporting British films.
Goldfinch Pictures Ltd is setting up an Eis company that aims to raise $6.5m (£4m) from investors.
Among the people who will sit on its expert panel are former British Film Commissioner Colin Brown and Stephen Evans, the producer of Oscar-winning films Henry V and The Madness of King George.
Goldfinch Pictures has been set up by Kirsty Bell, a film specialist and partner at Nyman Libson Paul. She will be managing director of the operation, which will support eight separate films over three years, all of which will be closely scrutinised and vetted by the expert panel, and have the appropriate approval from the Inland Revenue.

Usually when actors decide that what they really want to do is direct, they go small, then move their way up the budget scale. A little indie drama here, a TV show episode there, nothing too crazy. Learn on the job, as it were. Not Angelina Jolie. Oh no. Mrs. Brad Pitt decided to go big or go home, and thus you get “In the Land of Blood and Honey”, a drama about the forbidden love between a Muslim woman and a Serbian man set during the bloody Bosnian war. Philip Howard's sell-out Traverse Theatre Company production of David Greig's Damascus is to be presented at the Tricycle Theatre by Michael Edwards and Carole Winter for Mje Productions. Damascus will run from 3 February - 7 March 2009 with press night on Monday 9 February. Designs are by Anthony Macllwaine, lighting is by Chahine Yavroyan, the composer/arranger is Jon Beales and sound is by Graham Sutherland. The original Traverse Theatre Company cast - Nathalie Armin, Alex Elliott, Dolya Gavanski, Paul Higgins and Khalid Laith - will reprise their roles.
