An animated video for Mark Knopfler’s all-star charity single “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” – which brought together a stunning lineup of over 60 guitar gods to raise funds for Teen Cancer America and the Teenage Cancer Trust – has been released. It features the final recording of Jeff Beck along with contributions by Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Sting.
The song came out a week ago, but it was difficult to discern who was playing what part throughout the ten-minute song.

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

Brian Ray, a familiar sight to Paul McCartney fans as a 20-year multi-instrumentalist stalwart in the superstar’s band, has a dream for making Palm Springs a destination on the routing of touring rockers, as well as more of a cultural hub for the arts in general. It’s a dream whose destination is well in sight. He’s helping with the already partially funded campaign to restore and reopen the Plaza Theatre, a 1936 gem that has sat unpolished, if not quite completely dilapidated, through eight years of notable dormancy right in the heart of Palm Springs’ famous shopping district.
Since he moved to the desert part-time four years ago, Ray has often thought about what could be, or what could have been, when it comes to the Plaza. It hasn’t been fit for ages to use as a hub for the annual Palm Springs Film Festival, as it...

The Doors’ Robby Krieger led a sultry rendition of “Back Door Man,” the blues standard that appeared on the band’s debut album, with vocalist-guitarist Orianthi and Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro at a guitar all-stars gig. As she sings, she alternates between declaring, “You’re my backdoor man” and “I’m your backdoor man,” claiming the sexuality that Howlin’ Wolf and Jim Morrison put into the song for herself. Krieger plays a slippery, melodic solo before passing it over to Navarro for a flashier, metal-tinged blues lead and...

Before we jump into the parent-approved Rock Power of Top 7 week, a word about the group performances that I omit in my recaps: They are just so terrible. Thank God we have a fluorescent-haired watchdog like Nicki Minaj to look Kree Harrison and Janelle Arthur in their buttermilk-sweet eyes and howl, "Cheesy, please Stop It." Ultimately, the group performances don't really factor into the home vote, so it's safer to evaluate each remaining singer based on what they achieve in solo performances. Because what they usually achieve is "being better than Lazaro," which I consider the unofficial theme every single week.
Anyway, here we go, #7-1. I give these kids credit for belting out old rock anthems, because the playlist looks like a gym teacher's iPod. Ride that power chord, little Lazaro!
7. Lazaro Arbos, "We Are the Champions"
Lazaro clearly wants my vote, because 1) he wasn't awful this week, and 2) he was sweaty.

1. Burnell Taylor, "You Give Love a Bad Name," Bon Jovi
Huh. Not what we were expecting from Burnell. And this is ... not working for us. It's almost as though Burnell has too much soul for this. Too much soul, not enough rock, you know? Burnell would be stronger on maybe some Lenny Kravitz? That sound would suit his voice much, much better.
Either way, this left us really cold. Yikes. And case in point, Keith Urban's first comment is, "I'm going to assume rock 'n roll's not your thing ... I've never seen you look more uncomfortable." Yeah, that about sums it up. Nicki babbles some stuff about Teddy Ruxpin -- this is not...

Erie, Pa. -- Master of macabre Alice Cooper did not disappoint metal fans here last weekend during the latest stop on his No More Mr. Nice Guy tour. The veteran shock-rocker captivated the near-capacity crowd and proved his continued relevance as a heavy metal entertainer.
Cooper took to the stage Saturday night after an introduction by the late Vincent Price echoed through the French Renaissance-style Warner Theatre. The showman extraordinaire lived up to his reputation when he made his entrance dressed in a spider costume on a pulpit high above the crowd.
At 63 years old, Cooper's vocals sounded great throughout the evening. The rock ghoul managed to keep the audience amped up for more than an hour. Cooper changed costumes and other accessories at least a dozen times during the 21-song set, which began with "The Black Widow" and ended with the hit songs "I Love The Dead," "School's Out" and "Elected.

Ar Rahman seemed like a novel choice for scoring the music of Rockstar. We all love his Sufi tinged numbers and techno pop songs, but with an album like Rockstar the listener and fan has to go in with an interesting set of expectations. Will Rahman be any good at composing full on rock tracks as comfortably as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy did for Rock On? Certainly from the exciting promos of the film, with Ranbir looking like a grungy rocker singing with Mohit Chauhan’s gritty voice. From the snippets of the songs, they immediately hooked you in and told a gradual evolution of the titular Rockstar’s roots of Sufi soft rock to full-blown grunge in Sadda Haq. Certainly, a lot is riding on the music to Rockstar, as critics weren’t fans of Rahman’s last outing in Robot, and Imtiaz Ali is testing waters with a new composer for such an awaited film.

Scott Speer has signed on to direct Step Up 4 for Summit Entertainment. Just like the third film, Step Up 4 will be done in 3D. The new film is set to take place in Miami. Speer replaces Wade Robson, who dropped the project for personal reasons that would have kept him from making the planned summer start date. Jenny Mayer is writing the script for the film that is being produced by Offspring Entertainment's Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman, along with Summit's Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig. The last two films were directed by Jon Chu, who will serve as executive producer. Speer is best known for directing music videos and commercials. He helmed videos for Jordin Sparks, Will.I.Am, Jason Derulo and Orianthi Lacey. He also collaborated with Chu on the TV episodes The Lxd: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.
Speer sounds like a wise choice from his background with music videos.

Renee Zellweger, Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn and Kristen Bell came out to work the phones for a cause!
A-list actresses, comedians, singers and newscasters came out in droves Sept. 10 for a singular cause — cancer. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Renee Zellweger, Ryan Seacrest and Seth Rogan worked the phone banks for an hour and a half taking donations while artists like Stevie Wonder, Natasha Bedingfield and Martina McBride sang in the background.
What did you miss by watching the special on TV? For starters, Reese Witherspoon’s, “the dishes can wait – pick up the phone” segment was pre-taped, as was George Clooney’s. Ditto for Lady Antebellum and Green Day singer Billy Joe Armstrong’s performances — both of which I was completely bummed to not have seen live. Luckily, we got some epic performances from Heart, Michael Jackson’s prodigy Orianthi, Stevie, Natasha, Martina, Leona Lewis, The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and...

"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert started his on-stage making out antics at the 2009 American Music Awards. But Tuesday (Aug. 17), he started a whole new thing -- "tongue diving."
Lambert tweeted after his concert in Providence, Ri: "TongueDiving is the new StageDiving. Get Into It." The tongue-diving incidents in question happened during a performance of "Mad World" and "20th Century Boy" at his latest concert. You can fast-forward to the 4:18 and 5:23 marks for the, ahem, fan interaction.
Now that is a full-service concert experience for two lucky fans! Glambert is currently on tour with fellow "Idol" finalist Allison Iraheta and Australian guitar goddess Orianthi. He is also holding a Glamphoto Twitter contest.

By popular demand, Allison Iraheta will be staying on for the remainder of Adam Lambert's Glam Nation Tour this summer. Allison and Adam fans both petitioned to extend her time on the tour, which led to the invitation for her to do so. She will now remain for the second leg of the tour which is expected to run through the end of September. As reviews go, Allison's have been stellar. The high energy red head with a voice and soul that has been linked to greats such as Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt, receives as much attention for her stage prowess as she does for her soulful, gritty, and powerful pipes. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says Allison delivers "with a sultry voice mature beyond her 18 years. She had enough energy to go on for days. With talent like that, hopefully she goes on for years and years." MLive.

American Idol star Adam Lambert has revealed his pre-show routine for his Glam nation tour.
The ‘If I Had You’ singer, is currently touring America, though he will be coming to Blightly this autumn and he told MTV that he likes to gear up by doing 20 minutes of cardio before all of his shows.
“I never used to be one to do any sort of ritual before I performed and just recently – at the start of this tour – I decided to start coming up with a routine,” he explained.
“It’s really helped me. I exercise, I do like a cardio thing. If I’m in a hotel with a treadmill I either run for 20 minutes or I get on a stationary bike for 20 minutes. It makes you feel good, it gets the endorphins going. It also kind of helps warm up the voice. Then then I do a vocal warm-up before the show.
