As long as there have been teenagers, there have been troubled teenagers. Adolescence is brutal, a time when people have to learn how to be adults and leave behind their childhoods, all while dealing with raging hormones and a changing body. There are plenty of films about killer teens, capitalizing on adult fears of that turbulent time in their own lives, but what about movies where the troubled teens are the victims and the heroes? Long before the absolutely brilliant "Spontaneous" gave audiences the perfect allegory for surviving school shootings, a messy but star-studded 1998 film dug into just how terrifying it can be to be a teenager. "Disturbing Behavior" is by no means a good movie — studio-demanded cuts made the plot almost nonsensical, and there are some deeply problematic elements — but it did create a "Stepford Wives"-inspired metaphor for surviving high school that's surprisingly apt even today.

“Do Revenge” brought colorful chaos to Netflix screens last weekend in more ways than one. Eleanor Levetan (Maya Hawke) and Drea Torres (Camila Mendes) team up to do each other’s revenge, switching targets so that Drea goes for Eleanor’s bully while Eleanor goes for Drea’s ex-boyfriend Max Broussard (Austin Abrams). The film, directed by Jennifer Kaitlyn Robinson, also stars a host of young Hollywood personas including Talia Ryder, Rish Shah, Alisha Boe, Jonathan Daviss, Ava Capri, Paris Berelc, Maia Reficco, Sophie Turner and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
High school is the setting for the riff on Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” (1951) — Rosehill Country Day in particular — with Sarah Michelle Gellar (“Buffy” herself) as headmaster, and in keeping with the teen vibe the “Do Revenge” soundtrack is full of pitch perfect songs.

Kathryn Merteuil may hate when things don’t go her way, but thanks to “Do Revenge” writer-director Jennifer Kaityn Robinson, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s iconic “Cruel Intentions” character has a whole new life, now revived as the ultimate queen bee: a prep school principal who trims a bonsai tree when she (rarely) feels out of control.
“She was my first dream choice,” Robinson told IndieWire about Gellar’s casting almost 25 years after the beloved 1999 film debuted. “And it was one of those things where you don’t think she’s going to do it. I was like, ‘Yeah, of course, let’s offer it to her and see what happens.’ You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take. But when she said yes, I was flabbergasted and so excited.”
Robinson added, “I will say, her saying yes was kind of co-signing this movie, and made me feel like we were doing something right.

Nickelodeon and TV producer Dan Schneider have parted ways after collaborating on such beloved shows as The Amanda Show, iCarly, and Victorious. And though Dan and Nickelodeon maintain it's a mutual decision, many fans suspect Dan's behavior with his young stars is the real reason he's no longer employed with the cable channel. Just check out this 2013-era Vine iCarly star Jennette McCurdy sent Dan's direction, a video YouTube commenters have called "downright disturbing" and "extremely disconcerting." Other YouTube commenters imply Dan is a child predator, calling him "Dan 'Eight Is the New Eighteen' Schneider'" and "Dan 'The Age Denier' Schneider," among more explicit nicknames. At the very least, the 52-year-old seems fixated on his young stars' feet, as you can see in this collage of social media pics and screen grabs from his shows. In September, Twitter user @deludedkiss posted a "thread of how much of a pedophile creep...

Get ready to feel super nostalgic over Gigi Hadid's performance on Lip Sync Battle. The supermodel competed against Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey on Thursday, and she upped the ante in the best way possible - by taking us back to the '90s. Not only did she perform the Backstreet Boys' classic hit "Larger Than Life," but she also lived out all of our childhood fantasies by bringing the band's members Nick Carter and A. J. McLean on stage with her. See the video above, then watch Tyler jam out to Harvey Danger.

Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey Goes Full '90s with Throwback Lip Sync Battle Performance Against Gigi Hadid
Tyler Posey is serving up some good old '90s nostalgia.
In a preview of Thursday's Lip Sync Battle, the Teen Wolf star dons a buttoned-up plaid flannel, frayed shorts, Vans and a backwards hat to belt out Harvey Danger's '97 alt-rock hit "Flagpole Sitta."
"Fingertips have memories, mine can't forget the curves of your body / And when I feel a bit naughty, I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes but no one ever does," Posey, 24, sings, pacing back and forth, pumping up the crowd. "I'm not sick but I'm not well. And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell.

Tyler Posey set the Lip Sync Battle stage on fire when he performed the classic '90s anthem "Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger while decked out in a flannel shirt and backwards baseball cap. The Teen Wolf star had some stiff competition from fellow contestant Gigi Hadid, who performed "Larger Than Life" alongside a few members of the Backstreet Boys, but his energetic routine just might be enough to secure him the win. "Treatment" is the funniest, most energetic film yet to come out of the mumblecore movement, which has proven to be as incestuous as it is prolific. Its star, Joshua Leonard (whose beak nose and shaggy charm resemble Owen Wilson's), and director/producer Steven Schardt were also involved with 2009's “Humpday." That movie's co-star Mark Duplass was the co-director of 2008's “Baghead”; Duplass' wife, Katie Aselton, directed, wrote, and starred in last year's “The Freebie,” which also featured Leonard. Some of the troupe—Duplass and Greta Gerwig, most notably—have paved their way into mainstream films.
Until now, these mumblecore films have retained a depressing, stilted sameness. They are small in scale, taking about a week or so to shoot in one or two settings, and hew to the mumblecore style of stammering dialogue, tight close-ups and an endlessly shaky camera, all in the service of achieving so-called realism.

Raise your hand if you saw this episode title and the last verse of Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta” popped into your head. Or is it just me?
Anyway, this episode sees the team on the trail of Faith Maples, who’s played by Jennifer Morrison (also known as Allison Cameron on House, and the real-life girlfriend of Chase star Amaury Nolasco). She’s downright nuts, killing people across the state of Texas (starting with her deadbeat boyfriend), and probably traumatizing her young daughter in the process. That kid’s going to need therapy. Sporting a Texas accent, Morrison leaves Cameron well behind.
Annie and the Marshals are on Faith’s trail two days after the boyfriend’s death, frustrated at the lack of viable information. They visit the boyfriend’s house and begin to poke around. Annie and Daisy note that Faith pampers her daughter, and wonder where the money is coming from.

Today is Flag Day! Though it's something of a second-tier holiday in the United States, it does mark an important event in the history of the country. On this date in 1777, the Second Continental Congress (the same one that drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence nearly a year earlier) officially adopted the flag of the United States of America. Flag day wasn't established until a proclamation by Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and even then, there wasn't an official Act of Congress establishing the holiday until 1949.
There are a handful of states and localities where Flag Day is formally celebrated with parades and events, but generally it passes without much bluster. However, if you really want to get into the spirit of Flag Day, you should have an all-flag music day. What are the best flags in music? Check out the list below.

With the fading embers of emo, laid-back surf rock, jam bands, prog and whatever Tokio Hotel does all clamoring for attention, the current rock landscape is pretty bizarre. But no era will ever match the oddness of the post-grunge era at the end of the '90s, when pop punk, the beginnings of nü metal and novelty weirdness (Harvey Danger, Marcy Playground and the like) rushed the airwaves for one last blast of Billboard relevance before being pushed out completely by Diddy-fueled hip-hop and boy bands. In the middle of it all were a handful of groups still trading on the grunge sound, including Fuel, who released their breakthrough album Sunburn on this day in 1998.
Originally formed in 1989 (they were called Small the Joy then), the breakout version of Fuel consisted of guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie, drummer Jonathan Mover and singer Brett Scallions. Sunburn struck a balance between alt-rock's two extremes,...

Remember when radio was really, really weird? In the late 1990s, there was a gap between the dominant forces in modern rock. Grunge had sputtered but the nü metal movement had yet to take hold, which left about a three year window where modern rock radio was just bizarre. Odd tunes like Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy," Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta," Nada Surf's "Popular" and Primitive Radio Gods' "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand" became inescapable radio staples, partially because they were great songs but also because nobody really knew what else to do. It was a wild time, because you never knew what was going to break out. It seemed like anything could become a hit, and as a result, the radio world felt a little more open-minded a free-wheeling for a time.

This past fall saw the debut of the supernatural horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body, and with the film's Blu-ray and DVD release being only a few weeks away (December 29th), I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at some of the most successful high school horror films that have been released over the past 10 to 15 years.
Jennifer’s Body is a slick production, equipped with fresh young stars, a hip soundtrack, and, of course, strings of "clever" dialogue. And that’s the criteria I’ve chosen to adhere to when working on this top ten list. Some of the films included here aren’t necessarily my favorites, but they’ve been impactful and deserve the call-out all the same. In spite of a violet, twilit snowscape on the cover and the title’s nocturnal farewell, Goodnight Oslo is Robyn Hitchcock’s sunniest record in ages. Recording with a gaggle of friends will do that. Two songs even feature female backing vocals, a rarity for Hitchcock. “Saturday Groovers” best exemplifies the light mood: Its bounce is borne along by harmonies and handclaps. The good vibes go ...
