A sequel to the Mortal Kombat movie from 2021 is on the way, and The Wrap reports tonight that Karl Urban (“The Boys”) is in final talks to join the cast as Johnny Cage.
The Wrap reminds, “Johnny Cage was introduced in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game in 1992. Johnny Cage is depicted as an action movie star with an extensive martial arts background. He is often characterized as a swashbuckling, Hollywood fighting movie star who places great importance on his image and consistently behaves in a cool manner.”
The star of Amazon’s hit series “The Boys,” Karl Urban turns 50 years old next month, so this particular take on the classic Mortal Kombat character is sure to be different than expected. Many fans had been lobbying for WWE superstar The Miz to play Cage in the upcoming sequel, but Urban’s casting will bring a whole new facet to the character.

I’m not usually one to look up the MPAA ratings for movies. But there came a point while watching the new Mortal Kombat that I got curious. A point sometime after hearing Kano, the notoriously aggro Australian mercenary, call someone a “fucking idiot” for what felt the like 50th time, but before the part where we see a surge of power bore a hole so cleanly through that someone’s flesh that their spine — dripping with a few gorgeous chunks of meat — is all that remains of their torso in the end.

"It's gargantuan seven storied structure with no apparent rhyme or reason..." CBS Films has debuted the second official trailer for the horror thriller film titled Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, now titled simply just Winchester (because who wants to remember that very long title, I guess?). Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of "the most haunted house in the world", built by Sarah Winchester, played by Helen Mirren, heiress to the Winchester (weaponry) fortune. The huge house, located 50 miles outside of San Francisco, stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. Apparently Winchester built this house as a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts. The cast includes Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook, Angus Sampson, Laura Brent, Tyler Coppin, and Dawayne Jordan. This does look fairly creepy, and I'm hoping the house plays a major role with all kinds of scary things coming from inside.

The house, located 50 miles outisde of San Francisco, stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. While writer-producer Felicity Packard was researching an ABC WW1 drama, she made a shocking discovery: More than 3,700 Australian and New Zealand nurses served overseas during the war- but only seven were awarded military medals.
The reason for that anomaly is one of the recurring themes of Anzac Girls, a six-hour series based on real people and events at the Western Front and Gallipoli, which premieres at 8.30 pm on Sunday August 10.
Packard believes the Australian Army refused to honour the nurses because officers were opposed to young women being involved in the war.
.The Army was quite hostile to them,. Packard tells If. This attitude is personified in the show by Colonel Thomas Fiaschi (John Waters), who, she says, .was obstructionist and critical of the nurses.. Those medals were awarded to people of .other ranks,...

Khadem is sent to Won Wron, a low-security, pre-release prison farm, where Senior Officer Matt Perry (Weaving) has established a unique program to rehabilitate broken men by giving them the responsibility for the rehabilitation of injured game birds, such as eagles, falcons and owls.
Xavier Samuel, Jane Menelaus, Anthony Hayes, Mark Leonard Winter, Robert Taylor, Justine Clarke, Laura Brent and Tony Martin also star.
Monahan and Alison Niselle co-wrote the screenplay, and filming begins in Melbourne and around regional Victoria next week ahead of an early 2014 release.

It’s quite ironic that A Few Best Men is set at a wedding…because, quite frankly, I’ve been to funnier funerals.
Promoted as the “British version of The Hangover”, A Few Best Men follows the exploits of David Locking (Xavier Samuel), an orphaned individual who finds love on the remotest of islands courtesy of Australian native Mia Ramme (Laura Brent). After a week-long romance, David proposes to Mia and plans are made for them to wed within the confides of Mia’s rather scenic home back in Australia. After informing his friends, David and his ‘Best Men’ – Tom (Kris Marshall), Graham (Kevin Bishop) and Luke (Tim Draxl) – travel across to Australia to celebrate the upcoming nuptials, unaware of the influence or importance of Mia’s family, the Rammes.
Of course, in true Hangover style, things don’t quite go to plan – a combination of drugs, drink and one...

The Myth Of The American Sleepover (15)
(David Robert Mitchell, 2010, Us) Claire Sloma, Amanda Bauer, Marlon Morton, Matt Jacobsen. 96 mins
As low-key as it is low-budget, this is a thing of beauty. The plot is basically Dazed And Confused relocated to Michigan: high-schoolers (including a flirt with the hots for a pool-cleaner and a drop-out pining for the girl of his dreams) make the most of one last hurrah. But the film's mood is all its own, characterised by an elegiac score, easygoing performances and gorgeous cinematography.
Berberian Sound Studio (15)
(Peter Strickland, 2012, UK) Toby Jones, Tonia Sotiropoulou, Cosimo Fusco. 92 mins
There's something nasty in the recording studio. A sound engineer supplies the effects for an Italian horror movie, but the creepiness doesn't stay confined to the screen for long.
[Rec]3 Genesis (18)
(Paco Plaza, 2012, Spain) Carla Nieto, Leticia Dolera, Diego Martín, Alex Monner, 79 mins

Georgie Henley, Ben Barnes, Laura Brent and Skandar Keynes in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Photo: 20th Century Fox A few weeks back a friend of mine commented on the box office struggles of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and wondered aloud if we are about to see the demise of the fantasy film. He mentioned that even the last two installments of the Harry Potter series were for fans only with little in the way of breakout possibilities. Yes, they made money, but they don't seem to be bringing in any kind of new audience.
It seemed my friend believed a decade long love affair between audiences and fantasy flicks was perhaps coming to an end. That conversation sent me on a quest to find out where the next crop of fantasy films will come from and when will they arrive?...

The Hollywood Reporter has some great news about Eclipse vampire, Xavier Samuel. Xavier has just gotten a lead in a new comedy, A Few Best Men. Read more below:
Sydney — After a trio of horror films including Twilight: Eclipse, The Loved Ones and Bait 3D, Xavier Samuel is turning his hand to comedy, signing on for the lead in Stephan Elliott’s latest feature film, A Few Best Men.
Samuel will star as David, the English groom, in the film which Elliot bills as the latest in “a hugely successful emerging genre — wedding movies for boys.” (Think, The Hangover down under.)
In the film David and his three best men travel to the Australian outback for a destination wedding that is as funny as it is disastrous.
“The girls get the big day. The boys get to sabotage it. And boy I am gonna have some fun,” said Elliot, who’s returned to Australia to make his first feature here in over a decade.
Also starring are Olivia Newton-John as the mother of the bride, British actors Kris Marshall and Kevin Bishop and Aussies Laura Brent, Tim Draxl and Steve Le Marquand.

The cast of Stephan Elliott’s A Few Best Men will include Xavier Samuel, Kris Marshall, Kevin Bishop and Olivia Newton-John as the mother of the bride.
“I’m thrilled Olivia Newton-John is part of the cast; Dean Craig has written a fantastically entertaining script, and it’s especially exciting to partner Stephan Elliott with Olivia who is a true music and film icon. Olivia will be playing a role that will show her in a light she’s never been seen before and it’s going to turn heads and win new fans,” said producer Gary Hamilton.
It will be Newton-John’s first Australian film since 1965′s Funny Things Happen Down Under, and her first film since the American independent release Sordid Lives in 2000. One of her latest TV appearances was in the hit show Glee.

Georgie Henley, Ben Barnes, Laura Brent and Skandar Keynes in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Photo: 20th Century Fox The Chronicles of Narnia films have managed to dumbfound me. Upon seeing The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe back in 2005 I didn't mind it at first, but a couple of follow-up viewings left me bored and disinterested. Going into Prince Caspian a few years later my expectations were low and I actually came out of the theater mildly entertained, but ever since I haven't been able to sit through it again. This makes me wonder if my current feelings toward The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader can be trusted or if I will have to eat my words should I ever decide to watch it again.

Actor Liam Neeson is fully back on the dating scene, a year after losing his wife Natasha Richardson - he's reportedly romancing his movie co-star Laura Brent.
The A-Team star was left devastated when actress Richardson died in 2009 after suffering a brain injury in a skiing accident in Montreal, Canada.
He was rumoured to have moved on from the tragedy in September when he was spotted enjoying a cosy date with French air stewardess Leslie Slater.
However, that relationship appears to have been short-lived - Neeson was openly affectionate with actress Brent when they hit the red carpet in London for the premiere of their new movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader last week.
The stars smiled for the cameras as the Irish actor embraced Brent from behind, keeping her warm in the chilly temperatures.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was premiered at Royal Film Performance in London, England on November 30. And the event became more prestigious with celebrities and some members of the British Royal Family among the attendees.
Despite the freezing weather, "Narnia" girls like Georgie Henley, Laura Brent and Anna Popplewell shunned big coats to look as glamorous as possible under their dresses. The guys, including Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, Will Poulter, Liam Neeson, Simon Pegg and William Moseley, meanwhile came out in formal outfits to greet Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip after the screening.
Director Michael Apted was also seen among the stars when they posed together in front of the film's banner. Additionally, "The X Factor" winner Joe McElderry, whose song "Someone Wake Me Up" is included in the soundtrack, was among the guests of the premiere, joined by One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle among others.
