PBS Masterpiece has boarded the remake of classic European detective series “Van der Valk” and will co-produce and air the show in the U.S.
Masterpiece’s Rebecca Eaton will exec produce the project. It is the latest in a healthy line of U.K.-originated drama that Masterpiece has boarded since becoming the U.S. home for British-made hits such as “Downton Abbey.” More recent projects include “Mrs Wilson” and the upcoming “All Creatures Great and Small” reboot.
“Van der Valk” now joins that roster. The original series was loosely based on the Nicolas Freeling novels and was made by British producer Thames for ITV in the 1970s. Barry Foster starred as the thoughtful titular Dutch detective, tackling crimes against a picturesque Dutch backdrop. The producers said the new iteration will see Van der Valk re-imagined as an unapologetic and street-smart cop in Amsterdam who leads a dynamic team investigating mysterious crimes.

Midsomer Murders writer Chris Murray is taking a pro-European approach to his latest drama – taking one of Britain’s best loved actors and turning him into a Dutch detective.
Murray is remaking Dutch procedural Van Der Valk for a slew of European broadcasters including ITV in the UK, Germany’s Ard, France Télévisions and Npo Netherlands with Safe and Mad Dogs actor Marc Warren in the lead role.
All3Media International, which co-commissioned the series from its own Company Pictures is now taking the three-part drama to Cannes in the hope of closing more deals.
Murray told Deadline, “I’ve done quite a few detective shows over the years and I always remembered the setting of the original and liked the idea that in these times [of Brexit], being relatively pro-European, of doing a detective series that reflected contemporary Europe.”

Universal have released a brand new trailer for its upcoming franchise reboot Doom: Annihilation, which is based upon the iconic Doom video game series (as was the original movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and comes from Universal’s Dtv arm, Universal 1440 Entertainment, who were responsible for bringing us the many, many Scorpion King sequels, the Fantastic Death Race Dtv prequel franchise.
This time round the cast includes Amy Manson, Luke Allen-Gale, Dominic Mafham and Nina Bergman and the film is directed by one of my favourite filmmakers, Tony Giglio, who previously directed the superb slasher Timber Falls and the “as good as The Raid and Dredd” (at least Imho) actioner Extraction; and who also penned a couple of the Death Race sequels.

Universal 1440 Entertainment has released a new thrilling, intense, and action-packed teaser trailer for Doom: Annihilation. There’s not a lot of footage in the trailer, but as you’ll see it still packs in a lot of cool footage filled with monsters and mayhem.
This isn’t a big-budget Doom movie being released in theaters. This is going straight to home entertainment release, but it still looks like it’ll be a fun flick to watch! Here’s the synopsis:
On the darkest moon of Mars, scientists have found an ancient portal which allows teleportation throughout the universe. Considered to be mankind’s greatest discovery, it’s actually a gateway from hell, unleashing a swarm of demons looking to steal the souls of everyone who gets in their way. It’s up to Lieutenant Joan Dark and an elite unit of Marines to destroy an ever-growing horde of bloodsucking...

British broadcaster ITV and a slew of European networks have signed up to the remake of classic British detective drama Van Der Valk.
This comes after Deadline revealed in April that Safe and Mad Dogs actor Marc Warren will star in the reboot from The White Princess producer Company Pictures and All3Media International.
The three-part series will air on ITV in the UK, on Germany’s Ard, which co-commissioned the series with All3Media International, France Télévisions and Npo Netherlands.
Company and All3Media International are adapting the series that first aired in 1972 and ran for five seasons. Midsomer Murders writer Chris Murray is writing a three-part series of feature length episodes.

"What is going on??" "They opened up a portal to Hell!" Universal 1440 Entertainment has just debuted the first brief teaser trailer Doom: Annihilation, another new live-action Doom movie arriving some 14 years after the original attempt at adapting the classic video game. This one is heading straight-to-vod, skipping theaters entirely, but has a major producer behind it (Lorenzo di Bonaventura of the Transformers series) and doesn't look that cheap. Described as an "intense action-packed" thriller, the sci-fi action horror movie is about a group of space marines who land on a Martian moon, but "discover it's been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth." Of course. Starring Amy Manson, Dominic Mafham, Luke Allen-Gale, Hari Dhillon, Jemma Moore, and Nina Bergman. There isn't much footage so far, but it does look pretty cool. Some big guns, some cool sets, might not turn out too bad. I'd like to see more.

Well, that was fast! Earlier this morning we shared some first look photos from the upcoming new Doom film, Doom: Annihilation. Now Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for you to watch, and it actually looks like it will be kinda fun.
This film didn’t get the epic big-budget treatment, but there are aspects of the trailer that I like, like that big-ass gun and crazy creatures. It’s also said to be an "intense action-packed" movie. This is only a 30-second teaser, but I’m looking forward to seeing more.

The “space marines” have been confirmed to be the Uac marines, who are the same team from the video game franchise.

The first trailer for “Doom: Annihilation,” the latest live-action adaptation of the popular first-person shooter, is out in the wild.
An NBC/Universal spokesperson told Variety the new “Doom” is being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment, which produces live-action and animated non-theatrical productions directly for distribution in all media worldwide. That means the film may be direct-to-dvd, or it could possibly appear on a digital platform like Netflix. Universal 1440’s other projects currently include the latest “Tremors” movie, a “Death Race” sequel, and an adaptation of Bruce Coville’s sci-fi classic “Aliens Ate My Homework.”
Bloody Disgusting reports that the upcoming film, written and directed by Tony Giglio, stars Amy Manson (“Atlantis”), Dominic Mafham (“Ophelia”), Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”), and Nina Bergman (“The Car: Road to Revenge”) with Lorenzo di Bonaventura of “Transformers” producing. “Animal Kingdom’s” John Wells is also on board as executive producer.

After 2005’s Doom bombed hard at the box office, the video game franchise has largely stayed away from the medium of film, but if Resident Evil can yield at least six commercially successful features, then there’s no reason to think that its fellow action-horror property doesn’t have at least one profitable movie in it.
Enter Doom: Annihilation, which has set itself the more modest goal of a direct-to-video release, and is headed for small screens some time in the fall. To tease the Aliens-style action that’s in store, Bloody Disgusting has premiered a new trailer, and sadly, the response so far isn’t looking too promising, with many criticizing the low-budget look and the questionable dialogue. Still, 30 seconds isn’t a lot to base to a judgment on, and anything as no-frills in its demonic action as this movie looks to be is bound to find some kind of audience.

Last month, Syfy finished airing the first (and very short) season of Dominion. How did the sci-fi series do in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season or, will it be cancelled instead?
Based on characters from the Legion movie, Dominion takes place 25 years into the future. It's after the "Extinction War" in which an army of lower angels waged a war against mankind. The show's cast includes Christopher Egan, Tom Wisdom, Carl Beukes, Alan Dale, Roxanne McKee, Anthony Head, Luke Allen-Gale, Shivani Ghai, and Rosalind Halstead.
In June, the series debuted to 1.96 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Compared to other current Syfy scripted series, that was a positive premiere. Viewership dropped 26% in week two but then grew slightly in week three and leveled off.

Dominion Review
Syfy has a tricky base of fans, and Dominion may just be the kind of crazy that works for a lot of them. The network’s identity can seem a bit polarizing, with Haven, Helix, and Being Human fans perhaps not wanting to identify themselves as also Sharknado fans. That leaves an area open which some consider to be something like “mid-range Syfy.” Different shows fall in different places on the hokey spectrum depending on who you ask, but Dominion, based on the 2010 film Legion, is clearly trying to see just how far you can push things.
Much like the film that came before (and indeed, Sharknado), Dominion sidesteps certain requirements of cohesion, believability, and logical construction and/or characters, by having a basic premise so bonkers that it is ultimately critique immune. It’s a story about angels attacking humans because God “disappeared.” If you want characters...

After watching the pilot episode of Syfy’s newest original series, Dominion, I’m still not quite sure how it ever got off the ground. Now, I don’t mean to slam the show by saying that – but it’s not often that a small-scale flick like Legion, which proved a modest success at the box office back in 2010 but wasn’t really anything special in terms of plot, premise or acting, gets a follow-up, let alone in the form of an entire TV series. Was there any reason to so extensively revisit the world of Legion, in which an army of angels led by archangel Gabriel fight a war of possession against humankind? Honestly, probably not – but Dominion entertains regardless.
The show opens 25 years after the conclusion of Legion, in which the archangel Michael succeeded in protecting a newborn child, prophesied to be the Chosen One, from Gabriel’s army.

With "Dominion" premiering June 19th, Syfy recently hosted a conference call with star Chris Egan and exec producer/creator Vaun Wilmott, and we have the highlights for you here.
Settle in a bit because it's a long, wide-ranging discussion that touches upon the mythology of the TV show vs. the movie (2010's Legion) and how things have changed - Wilmott promises for the better - in this adaptation. He also describes the caste system in place in Vega society, what other worlds and supernatural beings we might see, and what the plan is for future seasons.
Egan elaborates on his character (soldier Alex Lannon) and his relationships with both the Archangel Michael and the upper class Claire Riesen. Of course the great Anthony Head's name comes up as well as how much like the angels we know from religion these guys really are.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
