Submarine Entertainment is picking up worldwide sales rights on Chris Skotchdopole’s feature directorial debut “Crumb Catcher.” The move comes just ahead of the darkly comic thriller’s Fantastic Fest world premiere.
Skotchdopole wrote, directed, edited, and produced the movie and Submarine Entertainment, a notable sales and production company, will launch sales out of the festival, which runs from Sept. 21 to Sept. 28 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas. “Crumb Catcher” was described by Fantastic Fest programmer Anna Bogutskaya as a “chamber piece that melds extreme anxiety with the worst salesmanship imaginable.” The film follows a newlywed couple held captive by an entrepreneur desperate to finance his outlandish invention with a blackmail plot.
With ten years of experience working with Glass Eye Pix, the New York independent genre production outfit led by horror auteur Larry Fessenden, Skotchdopole has amassed numerous credits on several films, including working as the cinematographer on Fessenden’s “Depraved,...

"We're representing the United States of America... Who are we?" Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Foxhole, the second feature from filmmaker / actor / composer Jack Fessenden. This premiered at a few small film festivals last fall, and will be out on VOD in the US this May. Unfolding over 36 hours in three different wars - the American Civil War, World War I, and Iraq. Foxhole follows a small group of soldiers who are confronted in a confined space with questions of their morality, the futility of their actions, and an increasingly unpredictable combat situation. Description from one of the fests: "There is no war, there is no patriotic goal, not even orientation in the most elementary sense. All there is, is a foxhole, a wall of fog and a desperate will not to die." This stars Motell Gyn Foster, Alex Hurt, Cody Kostro,...

A triptych of vignettes set in places where exhaustion, tedium, fear and duty collide to make moral reasoning difficult, Foxhole marks the second feature so far by a filmmaker barely out of his teens. Jack Fessenden (son of genre fixture Larry, a producer here) wears many hats, most of them very well, teaming with a fine cast to deliver a war film where happy endings may be imagined but bloody ones are never in doubt.
The protagonists are Americans caught in three different conflicts: the Civil War, World War I, and Iraq. The same actors play characters with the same names ...

The festival will take place September 29 to October 3 in three Hudson Valley communities about two hours north of New York City. Panels, concerts and comedy sets along with film screenings are planned in Woodstock, Kingston and Saugerties. Neon chief Tom Quinn is slated to receive the festival’s Honorary Trailblazer Award, an honor announced in 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic.
The festival will kick off with Fanny: The Right to Rock, a documentary about a pathbreaking Filipina-American garage band, with a performance by some of the band’s members following the screening. Music is an annual touchstone for Woodstock’s lineup,...

Larry Fessenden (Wendigo) goes back to his monster drawing-board to tell a modern-day Frankenstein story about a man named Henry, a medic with Ptsd, who makes a guy out of body parts and, yep… you guessed it… he’s alive. Alive. Fessenden is no stranger to the topic, and he handles it well. Bringing the famous tale of Frankensteins Monster to modern times, using psychological horror, mental illness and science to do so. Apparently Depraved, a passion project for Fessenden that he’d been sitting on for a long time, was shot on the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s famous literary classic. Fitting, then, and indeed you can see plenty of the...

Look, I'm not a parent, but if I were, and if my teenage child expressed a desire to make a feature film, I hope I would respond as did Larry Fessenden. Not only did the indie filmmaker say yes to his kid's passion project, but he also produced it and acted in it. By now, Larry Fessenden's name should be familiar to all genre fans, but as a reminder, his credits include Wendigo, Habit, Wendy and Lucy, and many more. He's known as the mentoring type, which means he's more than willing to help both friends and budding filmmakers. Ok, enough blathering: we have three alternate posters to debut for Jack Fessenden's Stray Bullets and they are all kinda dazzling. Jack Fessenden wrote and directed...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb! Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters.

"My understanding is we've got a bit of a situation..." A trailer has debuted for a film titled Stray Bullets, from young filmmaker Jack Fessenden, son of Larry Fessenden. Not to be confused with the comic book series Stray Bullets, this crime thriller is about two teenaged boys who end up in a fight against a hitman while being held hostage by three criminals they discover hiding out in their father's old mobile home. Jack Fessenden stars along with Asa Spurlock, including James Le Gros, John Speredakos, and Kevin Corrigan, with an appearance by Larry Fessenden. This looks solid, better than expected for a first film. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jack Fessenden's Stray Bullets, found on YouTube (via Tmb): In upstate New York, two teenage boys (Jack Fessenden, Asa Spurlock) are tasked with cleaning out their father's old mobile home on an abandoned property, but the...

Jodorowsky actor directorial debut to be presented at new co-production event; Reygadas curates for Filmfest Hamburg.
Argentinian actor Leandro Taub’s directorial debut The Dream of the Guest and Slovenian filmmaker Jan Cvitkovic’s new feature film Mercedes Fire Horse are among the projects to be presented at a new co-production event, the Matchbox Coproduction Lounge, during this year’s Oldenburg International Film Festival (Sept 14-18).
Matchbox’s inaugural edition will also present Buddy Giovinazzo’s Potsdamer Platz which had been the last project, which the late Tony Scott had optioned to direct.
Taub, who was a lead actor in veteran Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Cannes competition film Endless Poetry this year, wrote the screenplay for the comedy drama which centres on how a family’s life changes dramatically when a special guest, claiming to be building a space ship, moves into their home to “confront them” with his strong belief in the possibility of the...

This Tuesday, March 30th, is the long awaited DVD/Blu-ray release date of Glenn McQuaid's I Sell the Dead, and our trilogy of interviews with its cast and crew continues with the one -- the only -- Angus Scrimm, who portrays the character of Dr. Vernon Quint in the film.
Elaine Lamkin: Thank you for taking time to do this interview with me, Angus. First question – how did you find yourself playing Dr. Quint in I Sell the Dead? What was the attraction? And how would you describe the good doctor, whose exit from the film is both hilarious and well-deserved?
Angus Scrimm: In January, 2008, this ruddy-cheeked Irish fellow with a perpetual twinkle in his eye turned up at the Burbank, California, studio where Larry Fessenden was filming the infamous rant I contributed to Jim McKenney's Automatons DVD "extras." Undeterred by what he saw, he offered me the role of Dr.
