Back in February 2015, Reddit announced its first new web series, Cyborg Nation, in conjunction with Wired. But now, the social site is extending its original video content plans even further. Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian revealed the Reddit Video initiative during the TechCrunch Disrupt NY event on May 6, 2015.
Ohanian told TechCrunch co-editor Alexia Tsotsis how Reddit Video will initially aim to turn the site’s famous “Ask Me Anything” (Ama) forum-based text interviews into video versions (previous AMAs have featured YouTube stars like John Green and Felicia Day, among many other participants.) “Video is a pretty hot thing right now, and we wanted to get the best people we could to launch Reddit Video,” Ohanian said, as reported by VentureBeat.
The Verge reports Reddit’s video initiative will bring site users’ stories to the online video masses, as well. Stephen Greenwood and Jordan Oplinger from The Verge are slated to lead Reddit Video.
