Updated, Day 46: After visiting many, many picket lines over the last month, we’ve learned that lots of pickets signs are reused for conservation purposes. And to that we say — screw the recycling. Bring on more of those sweet corporate burns!

Die Hart saw Kevin Hart living his dream of being an action hero in the hit comedy series that started as a launch title for the failed Quibi streaming service. The show found a new home at The Roku Channel, and much like Cobra Kai, it found new life as a success on a wider streaming platform. The show was renewed with a sequel season titled Die Hart 2: Die Harter. That season became a hit when it premiered on Roku, so prepare for season 3 which could very well follow with the title Die Hart with a Vengeance.
Deadline reports that Die Hart 2: Die Harter premiered to record numbers on The Roku Channel, which has led to a season 3 renewal. Season 2 became the No. 1 Roku Original TV series weekend premiere of all time by both unique views and streaming hour engagement. Hart released a statement that said, “Die Hart...

Kevin Hart‘s comedy series Die Hart has been renewed for a third season at Roku on the heels of a record-breaking premiere weekend for Season 2.
Die Hart 2: Die Harter debuted on March 31, nearly doubling the first season’s opening weekend audience. It became the No. 1 Roku Original TV series weekend premiere of all time by both unique views and streaming hour engagement, according to the streamer.
“Die Hart is one of my favorite projects to act in and produce. I am so excited to get back to set to shoot season three,” Hart said in a statement Thursday. “My fans are the best and their reaction to season two fuels Hartbeat to keep raising the bar on this show. Kevin Hart is back with a thirst for fame in the official trailer for “Die Hart 2: Die Harter,” which the Roku Channel dropped today.
Hart plays a fictional version of himself in the comedy series, which follows his quest to become a renowned star of action films. When Season 2 kicks off, Hart is attempting to establish a reputation as the greatest action star of all time by developing an avant-garde unscripted feature. But his plans are soon foiled when an enemy from his past intervenes.
The new trailer previews what’s to come, along with a first look at series newcomer John Cena’s character. Cena plays a Hollywood stuntman who goes by the moniker “Mr. 206,” and is introduced to viewers holding a crossbow. The grizzly performer changes his tune once he sees Hart, immediately asking, “How do you like your tea?”

Quibi, the short-lived mobile-concentrated streaming service, may be gone, but one of its original shows had survived. The show is the action parody, Die Hart, by comedian and actor Kevin Hart. In this comedy, Hart plays himself where he wants to live out his fantasy of being an action hero and enlists the help of John Travolta to teach him the ways of being an action star.
The first season also featured appearances by Josh Hartnett and Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones and the Fast and Furious franchise. Variety now has the lowdown of new cast members joining for season 2 of the show. Another veteran of the Fast and Furious family, the brother of Dominic Toretto himself, John Cena, will be making an appearance for this season, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Ben Schwartz and voice artist and comedic actress Paula Pell.

Kevin Hart’s “Die Hart 2: Die Harter” has added John Cena, Ben Schwartz and Paula Pell to its cast. Additionally, Nathalie Emmanuel is set to return to the series.
“Die Hart” and the upcoming second season follow Hart as he plays a fictional version of himself. Tired of being the comedic sidekick, he decides to train at an action school to become a leading man.
The second season of the Roku comedy began production on Wednesday in Atlanta.
Here’s a logline for Season 2, which includes more about the new roles: “After achieving his dream of becoming a bona fide action hero in ‘Die Hart,’ Kevin Hart now wants to cement his legacy as the greatest action star of all time. He’s developed a concept for a revolutionary movie where the action is so unscripted and unexpected that even Kevin won’t know what’s coming next. But...

Kevin Hart’s comedy action series Die Hart, which debuted last year on short-lived streaming service Quibi before being resurrected this year as a Roku Original, has been renewed for a second season.
The show is the first Roku Original to get a renewal. The streaming purveyor used the dozens of Quibi shows it acquired in January to launch its original programming banner, with shows all streaming on the free, ad-supported Roku Channel. The first 30 Quibi alumni debuted May 20.
The second outing of the show will be titled Die Harter. Hart will return as star and exec producer but the rest of the cast will be announced down the line. John Travolta, Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett and Jean Reno appeared alongside Hart in the first season.

Kevin Hart action-comedy series “Die Hart” has officially been renewed for a second season — again.
Roku announced that it has ordered Season 2 of “Die Hart,” which naturally will be titled “Die Harter,” as an exclusive for the free, ad-supported Roku Channel. “It’s been great to see the incredible response to ‘Die Hart’ on the Roku Channel,” Hart said in a statement. “We’re excited to be partnering with Roku to bring another season to its audience.”
The show is the first former Quibi original that Roku is renewing. Actually, “Die Hart” had already been picked up for a second season by Quibi last September, but that came about a month before the richly funded Jeffrey Katzenberg-led mobile subscription-video startup announced that it was shutting down. In January 2021, Roku paid substantially less than $100 million to snap up the assets of Quibi, a deal that included more than 75 shows.

Kevin Hart is returning to Quibi for a sequel to “Die Hart,” the streaming service announced on Thursday. The sequel will be dubbed “Die Harter,” naturally, with the title once again paying homage to the Bruce Willis-led “Die Hard” movies.
In the first season, Hart played a fictionalized version of himself who’s looking to avoid being typecast strictly as a funnyman. To do so, Hart went to a top notch “action star school” that was led by a nutty director (played by John Travolta) and pitted him against a strong-willed rival student (played by Nathalie Emmanuel), with the dream of becoming Hollywood’s next great action star.

The WGA West says it has collected “tens of thousands of dollars” in interest payments in the past few months from companies that were late in paying their writers, including several interest payments in excess of $10,000 for individual writers.
The guild says much of its success in this area is attributable to its requirement that franchised agents turn over their writer-clients’ contracts, invoices, deal memos, writer compensation and commission information.
“Late pay is so pervasive that many writers have a story about waiting weeks, or even months, for a paycheck,” the guild told its members Friday. “It is one of the problems the Guild is working to address in the agency campaign.” The guild said that with the information the agencies are required to provide, “the Guild can now see when payment is due, then check with writers to see if they’ve been paid on time and, if payment is overdue,...

Pitching projects during a pandemic is no easy task, but the WGA West is offering five tips on virtual pitch meetings. “As if the prospect of pitching wasn’t daunting already, writers now have to do it through the impersonal, virtual workplace that is the Zoom room,” the guild told its members today. “The subtle and stressful art of pitching is not made easier when you can’t read the room, make eye contact, or tell if the people in the tiny squares on your computer screen are laughing – or even paying attention.”
The guild’s recommendations stem from its recent “Pitch Perfect” panel discussion moderated by Spiro Skentzos that featured conversations with writers Annie Julia Wyman (The Chair), Mikki Daughtry (The Curse of La Llorona), and Tripper Clancy (I Am Not Okay With This); and executives Amy Suh, development executive of genre series at Amazon Studios, and Sheila Walcott,...

Chicago – Kumail Nanjiani is reaching the next level of stardom. Recently, he was the best thing in the rebooted “Mib: International” (as a cartoon sprite), and now he is the only reason to indulge in “Stuber.” Kumail portrays a nervy Uber driver named Stu (get it?), and upholds everything about the buddy movie that is enjoyable. The rest of it, including his buddy Dave Bautista, land with a dull thud.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
There was something there, but maybe it needed ten more rewrites or so. The lazy screenplay – by Tripper Clancy, I kid you not – seemed content with rehashing plots from the 1990s, as the Kumail/Bautista team pursuit an Asian martial artist running a heroin ring … complete with exotic Asian branded drug packaging. But Kumail is blissful in his zen surrounding this illogical scenario, and gets off a few hilarious lines. The Über Critic Rule … if it makes me laugh several times,...

Sony’s second weekend of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is dominating North American moviegoing with around $45 million, taking in more than the combined totals of the next three titles — “Toy Story 4,” “Crawl” and “Stuber.”
Should Saturday estimates hold, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” will wind up the weekend with $275 million in domestic grosses in its first 13 days at 4,634 locations. The 23rd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe should top the $44 million second weekend of 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which also starred Tom Holland as the teenage webslinger. “Spider-Man: Far From Home”has also generated $392 million internationally for a global tally of $635 million.
Disney’s fourth weekend of “Toy Story 4” will finish a distant second with $21 million, followed by the openings of Paramount’s alligator disaster movie “Crawl” with about $11 million and Fox’s buddy comedy “Stuber” with about $8 million.
“Toy Story 4” is showing impressive staying power with a 37% decline.

What we have here is an action-comedy about an Uber driver named Stu. Hence the title, Stuber. These are the jokes, folks. Also not funny — besides the title and the script — is the fact that Stuber traps two talented dudes — Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista — in a car that’s going nowhere so fast that Thelma and Louise would hop right on. Still, if you loved Nanjiani in Silicon Valley and The Big Sick, he’s going to get through the Stuber muck with his reputation intact. His comic delivery is foolproof.

Incapacitated cop Dave Bautista forces timid Kumail Nanjiani to help him take down the bad guys in this lame La-set caper
Stuber is a buddy action-comedy in which Kumail Nanjiani plays a sporting-goods store worker and part-time Uber driver called Stu – thus reprising in lamer form the comedian and part-time Uber driver he gave us in his 2017 movie The Big Sick. Opposite him, Dave Bautista rolls out a broad Mr Magoo turn as Vic, the tough cop rendered almost blind by that morning’s laser eye surgery who must respond to a crime emergency but hilariously can’t drive, and so commandeers wussy Stu in his Uber, riding shotgun in the nerdy beta-male electric car.
Vic forms an odd-couple partnership with his timid new civilian partner as they barrel around La aiming to take down the bad guys. Canadian-born Michael Dowse directs, working from what was originally a spec script from screenwriter Tripper Clancy.

The new release slate for this weekend’s box office consists of two smaller budget films: Disney/Fox’s action-comedy “Stuber” and Paramount’s horror film “Crawl.” But in a month dominated by “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “The Lion King” coming next weekend, it could be a struggle for either film to garner much attention.
“Stuber” is the third 20th Century Fox film distributed by Disney since the two studios merged this past spring, following “Breakthrough” and “Dark Phoenix.” It is also the first R-Rated film distributed by Disney in six years, the last being the DreamWorks/Participant Media biopic “The Fifth Estate.” Independent trackers are currently projecting an opening for the film at around $15 million. The film premiered at SXSW in March, and has received mixed reviews with a 44% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
For “Stuber’s lead star, Dave Bautista, the film marks a new stage in the actor’s rapidly rising career.

Action comedies can often feel old fashioned. That’s not a criticism either, just a fact of the matter. They don’t necessarily represent a trip to a whole different era, but more simply a throwback to 1980’s type cinema. As such, it either needs to lean into a modern transgression of the tropes, or it needs to lean in to the throwback vibe. It’s hard to not choose one direction and succeed. Stuber, the new action comedy pairing Dave Bautista with Kumail Nanjiani, opts for the former, bringing ride share apps to the forefront. Though hardly groundbreaking, the comic stylings of Nanjiani help to set this one apart and make it worth a watch. The film is, obviously, an action comedy pairing a cop with a civilian for a wild ride. A prologue sets up Vic (Bautista), a detective with vision problems. While investigating a drug dealer named...

In a desolate summer of blockbuster sequels and Disney remakes and Pokémon moonlighting as detectives, it’s hard to overstate how refreshing it is to see a studio movie as silly and self-contained as Michael Dowse’s “Stuber.” Spider-Man is nowhere to be found. The biggest action scene is set in a sporting goods store. And the hero isn’t fighting to save the planet, but only to help pay for the small business he wants to open with his crush (it’s a spinning gym geared towards single women called “Spinsters”). If not for the triple-underlined nowness of an action-comedy about a rideshare driver — will that premise make even a lick of sense to anyone in the future? — and a socially conscious subtext about the perils of toxic masculinity, this is the kind of fun July diversion that Hollywood might’ve made 20 years ago.

The Venn diagram of “people who love watching violence and swearing and buddy comedies” and “people who hate the gig economy” is a perfect circle Friday night, thanks to the new red band trailer for the Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista action-comedy “Stuber.” You can watch it above.
The film follows Stu (Nanjiani), an Uber driver thrust into terrible danger after he picks up Vic (Bautista), a grizzled police detective who drags Stu into his scheme to catch a brutal killer. Stu must survive the horrible ordeal and work with Vic while struggling to hold on to a five star rating. Fun stuff! (Except for the fact that Stu is presumably a contract employee without health insurance.)

The main takeaway from the trailer is that these guys get beat up pretty badly over the course of their adventures together.
