Double booking is the least of the worries awaiting the vacationers arriving at this desert home
Whether or not you think it deserves it, the online property-hire business Airbnb is taking a pasting of late, and now even horror films are piling in to sully its name. In this snappily edited film, a house in the desert near Joshua Tree national park (judging by the local flora) appears to have been double-booked, leading to murderous results. They complain about the circular frustration created by their inability to compare booking confirmations because they don’t have the code for the house’s wifi, which is accessible only on the Airbnb app, which they can’t access because of lack of wifi or phone signal. Typical first-world problems.
But the director, Travis Greene, and the screenwriter, Jonathan Buchanan, have more on their minds than shaming the booking service, mainly how to make...

8 Found Dead: "Stuck in a pandemic, Travis Greene and Jonathan Buchanan stumbled upon the story of 8 Found Dead while spitballing ideas at their local coffee shop.
Using several real-life characters and situations from Travis' life, Jonathan crafted a story around the inherent drama of being held hostage by conversation, a cue taken from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) - which, along with Death Trap (1982), Funny Games (2007) and The Strangers (2008) served as inspiration for the filmmakers.
The next step was choosing a cinematographer. and the obvious choice was their friend Ryan Valdez. His unique style had always stood out and seemed perfect for 8 Found Dead."
Synopsis:
"Two couples drive to a secluded house in the desert for a weekend getaway, each with their own baggage, expectations and secrets. Upon their arrival, they are met by two strangers, claiming to have rented the house as well.

At one point in time, I had to deactivate my social media accounts and stop watching the news to preserve my mental health. I was so tired of seeing Black people headline the news, whether for crime, being disproportionately affected by Covid-19, or as victims of police brutality. Time and time again, my saving grace has been entertainment; it has helped me create my own utopia. It is where I can re-create a world where Black people are safe, celebrated, and belong. Here are a few of my entertainment safe havens.
1. This Is Us
When I want to be vulnerable and live vicariously through an imperfectly perfect modern Black family, I watch This Is Us. Right now, it is hands down my favorite show. There isn't a single episode where the interaction between Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) doesn't bring me to tears. During those moments,...

Filmmaker Travis Greene recently completed a short film entitled Deer Head Valley, and he'd like nothing better than to share it with the twisted readers of Dread Central. Come on in and check out this horrific little number.
Directed by Greene and written by Ronnie Prouty, Deer Head Valley is a 10-minute nightmare scenario enveloped with dark humor. It's nicely shot and walks a fine line between the horrific and the humorous. It's certainly a quality effort well worth the brief investment of your time.
Deer Head Valley stars Ronnie Prouty, James McCabe, Rebecca Lee Reynolds, John Kirk, Galen Howard, Tod Purvis and David Brosky. Give it a look and let us know what you think in the comments section. We think you're gonna love it!

Guillermo is a very offbeat film with a dark quirkiness to it that makes it a unique watch. Unfortunately it suffers from the element of... well... not making any sense. It jumps around in time and location so sporadically, never letting viewers catch up on what is going on. The narrative jumps between Billy's fantasies and real life, or at least what is perceived as real life. There's really no way of knowing what is real and what is imagined. Whatever is happening on screen, just...
