“The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for its sophomore season Monday after delaying its premiere due to the WGA strike, which officially came to an end earlier this week.
The host will welcome guests including Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, Taye Diggs and Cedric the Entertainer, among others, for the daytime talk show’s first week back on air.
After delaying its initial premiere scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18, the talker joins a slew of other daytime talk shows that are resuming production following the resolution of the writers’ strike, including “The Drew Barrymore Show,” which is expected to return in October. Before delaying its start date, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” faced criticism from striking writers who found the decision to return without its WGA staffers harmful to the strike.

Jennifer Hudson is staying put.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that its freshman entry, The Jennifer Hudson Show, would be back on Fox TV Stations for a season two next fall. Hearst Television, along with other station partners, also renewed the Telepictures-produced series. With the freshly-minted Egot as host, the syndicated show is said to be reaching, on average, 5.2 million weekly viewers — hardly Oprah ratings, but “absolutely deserving,” as Fox TV Stations exec Frank Cicha noted, of a second year.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for a second season on Fox television stations this fall, Mike Darnell, President of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, announced on Wednesday.
“Jennifer is an incredible talent and can literally accomplish anything she sets her sights on. This show is second to none because of her and all of the talented producers and crew who work daily to make every single episode special. A Season 2 pick-up this early on proves that this show is here to stay,” said Darnell in a statement.
While he was effusive in his praise for the Egot winner, no one was more emotional than Hudson herself. In a video clip from Wednesday’s show, Hudson teared up as she told her studio audience, “Today is a major day of celebration.” She briefly burst into song, “We made it,” before announcing, “Y’all, we just got renewed...

Roku is getting into the daytime talk show space — sort of. Starting December 1, the Roku Channel will stream full episodes of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” a Warner Bros. and Telepictures syndicated series, the day after they air on linear television. The deal makes Roku the exclusive streaming home to the Egot winner’s new talk series; all previously aired episodes of the show are now available to stream for free on The Roku Channel.
Hudson’s talk show, a mix of celebrity interviews, topical stories, community heroes, viral sensations, and yes, music, has been a pretty strong freshman performer. Among the six new syndicated strips in their first run, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” is a close second to “Sherri,” averaging a 0.6 household rating versus Sherri Shepherd’s 0.7, according to Nielsen data. Shepherd, an alum of “The View,” basically took over for Wendy Williams last season and launched her own new show this fall.

The Roku Channel has now become the exclusive AVOD streaming home for The Jennifer Hudson Show.
All previously aired episodes are available beginning Thursday, and new episodes will hit the platform the day after they air.
“The authentic spirit that Jennifer Hudson brings to each episode of the series has already won over the hearts of audiences across the country, and we look forward to extending its viewership potential further to the millions of streamers reached by The Roku Channel,” said Rob Holmes, VP, Programming, Roku.
Finding additional avenues on other platforms has become crucial for high-end syndicated talk shows to survive in the current economic environment, which has been increasingly challanging for first-run fare.
Warner Bros.’ freshman The Jennifer Hudson Show got to a respectable start this fall and is currently looking good to be renewed for Season 2 by its core station group, the Fox Stations.

On the first episode of Jennifer Hudson’s new talk show, guest Simon Cowell was very gently criticizing the series “American Idol,” on which he had been a judge and Hudson had been a contestant. Remarking how he found the producers’ assignment for her to sing a Barry Manilow song (which she did the week she was sent home) to be unfair to her and outdated, Cowell generated the first semblance of real heat on the episode. Here was something, perhaps, with the frisson and excitement of real conversation. Hudson let it sit there, allowing a couple moments of silence before remarking “Simon being Simon,” then trailing off.
This first episode began with a run-through of Hudson’s career achievements: From the sorrow of her “Idol” elimination during Barry Manilow Week to her casting in “Dreamgirls,” for which she would win an acting Oscar, to her successful recording career. Hudson...

‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’ Producer Promises Music – Just Not How You Might Expect (Fall TV Preview)
Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson heads to daytime television on Monday, with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson” show. And according to Andy Lassner, one of the show’s executive producers, what the “American Idol” alum brings to her take on talk TV is a universal relatability.
“I think what’s important with her is that she appeals to everybody, because she has a story of perseverance,” Lassner, who spoke to TheWrap on behalf of the EP team that also includes Mary Connelly and Corey Palent for our Fall TV Preview, said. “There’s something about her that no matter how you know her, you root for her. … Jennifer Hudson is someone that the public roots for. Jennifer Hudson’s forthcoming syndicated talk show is getting a leadership injection from The Ellen Show.
The newly minted Egot winner’s The Jennifer Hudson Show will launch Sept. 12 in more than 95 percent of the country and be steered by Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner and Corey Palent. The trio have been the driving force of Ellen DeGeneres’ syndicated show, which recently said farewell to its host after a nearly 20-year run. The trio will serve as showrunners on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Connelly and Lassner, as part of their deal for the show, have also each inked an overall deal with Warner Bros. Unscripted TV and will develop and create other unscripted series for the studio. (It’s worth noting that multiple Ellen Show segments were spun off to unscripted series.)
Hudson, Lisa Kasteler Calio, Graehme Morphy and Walter Williams III will also executive produce alongside Connelly,...

As if Jennifer Hudson’s week can’t get any better, the newly-minted Egot is about to add another title to her resumé: talk show host.
Hudson’s upcoming show, titled “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” has been cleared in more than 95 of the country, now officially heading into national syndication this fall. The series will debut on Sept. 12 on the Fox TV stations as its core station group.
Hudson’s show hails from Warner Bros., the same studio that was behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which just closed its curtain after 19 years on the air. Many of DeGeneres’ top producers are moving over to Hudson’s show. Her show will also be taped from the same studio where “Ellen” was shot on the Warner. Bros. lot.

Turns out that like Bekah Martinez, Nielson appeared on the show hoping Peter Kraus, the fan favorite who made it to the final two on Rachel Lindsay‘s Bachelorette season, would be the guy handing out roses.
“You know, I was really pleasantly surprised,” the 30-year-old fitness coach said about Luyendyk Jr.
