The future of sport for fans and advertisers alike lies in streaming, according to Marie Donoghue, VP Global Sports Video at Amazon, as she offered a jaw-dropping statistic to support her case at a Cannes Lions event charting the evolution of live sports viewing.
“By 2026, 136 million fans will be streaming sports,” she quoted from New Marketer. “It’s the present and it’s the future. It’s a great opportunity to bring great content, convenience and value to fans, and for advertisers to interact and engage.
“Viewers are younger, more affluent and spend a lot more time with the game. A lot of our audience wasn’t even watching NFL on other services.”

Three of Holland’s most decorated players have announced they will take part in Soccer Aid for Unicef this summer.
Patrick Kluivert will make his debut for the Soccer Aid World XI, with Jaap Stam returning at the heart of the defence in front of goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar who has also starred previously.
The Dutch triumvirate – two of which, Stam and van der Sar, enjoyed successful club careers with Manchester United at Old Trafford – will team up with compatriot Clarence Seedorf who has already announced that he too will play for the Soccer Aid World XI.
An imposing central defender, Jaap Stam won a range of trophies with some of Europe’s top clubs across a 15-year career. Included in this was a three-year stay at Manchester United, where he is remembered fondly as part of the ’99 treble-winning side.
Edwin van der Sar was one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation.

Liverpool are in Spain preparing for tonight’s daunting Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, knowing that a victory would arguably be the most unlikely triumph in the club’s history. Brendan Rodgers’ side are in extremely poor form, both domestically and in Europe, while Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded team are scoring goals for fun and are the current champions of Europe. They key question is: has there ever been a game the Reds were less likely to win since the competition’s inception in 1992?
The 2005 Champions League Final is probably a good place to start. AC Milan, managed by Ancelotti at the time, had a ridiculous amount of talent in their side, whether it be Cafu and Paolo Maldini at the back, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka in midfield or the brilliant Andriy Shevchenko up front. Not many gave Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool much hope,...

West Ham United have signed AC Milan’s combative midfielder Antonio Nocerino on loan for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old has 15 caps for Italy and once drew comparisons to Rossoneri great Gennaro Gattuso, but has been in and out of the side under Max Allegri and successor Clarence Seedorf this term.
Nocerino’s arrival at the Hammers comes after Milan agreed to sign Michael Essien from Chelsea. This move thus left Nocerino surplus to requirements at the San Siro.
Fans of English football may remember Nocerino from Euro 2012. He converted one of the penalties in Italy’s shootout quarter-final win over the Three Lions. Nocerino also counts Juventus and Palermo as former clubs.
In other West Ham news, the East London outfit have had a reported £3.5 million bid for Championship top scorer and Leeds United captain Ross McCormack rejected.

Liverpool are eyeing a loan move for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong to replace the injured Lucas, according to the Daily Mail.
Lucas is expected to miss two months of the season after sustaining knee ligament injury, leaving Reds boss Brendan Rodgers light in defensive midfield.
That could lead to Rodgers turning to de Jong for cover, and he will be encouraged by the fact the Netherlands international has Premier League experience having also played for Man City.
However, new Milan manager Clarence Seedorf may be reluctant to sanction a move, as de Jong has become a first team regular for the Rossoneri.
The 29-year-old could though be tempted by a return to England, where he won the Premier League and Fa Cup with City during his three-year spell.
Milan are currently struggling in Serie A and languishing in 11th place – 30 points adrift of league leaders Juventus.

Italian Serie A giants AC Milan want to sign Newcastle United number one Tim Krul in the January transfer window.
The Rossoneri recently appointed playing legend Clarence Seedorf as their new head coach and he wants to sign fellow Dutch international Krul for £8 million, according to the Metro.
Krul, 25, has put in some hugely impressive displays for the Magpies this season – most notably setting a Premier League record for most saves in a match during the 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur in November.
Performances like this have alerted Milan and German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach. There has been widespread speculation across Europe that Gladbach goalie Marc-Andre Ter Stegen could join Barcelona to replace Victor Valdes.
So long as he stays fit, Krul looks certain to go to the World Cup with the Netherlands as other keepers Maarten Stekelenburg and Michel Vorm have struggled with injuries this term.

Former AC Milan playing favourite Clarence Seedorf is to return to the San Siro as the Rossoneri’s new boss.
A Champions League winner four times with three different clubs, Seedorf, 37, spent a decade with Milan between 2002 and 2012. He takes his first steps into management after announcing his retirement from planning after 18 months at Brazilian team Botafogo.
Milan president Silio Berlusconi dispensed with the services of Massimiliano Allegri on Monday following a 4-3 loss to promoted side Sassuolo. The Rossoneri sit eleventh in Serie A – six points above the relegation zone, 20 outside a Champions League place and 30 behind Italian league leaders Juventus.
Seedorf told the BBC:
“This experience of a year and a half [with Botafogo] helped me grow and will help me in the next stage of my life – as coach of Milan.”
Suriname-born Dutch international Seedorf played at three European Championships and 1998 World Cup. He earned 87 Netherlands caps across 14 years.

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has emerged as a shock target for AC Milan.
The son of owner Silvio Berlusconi has urged his father to pull off the ambitious transfer after being impressed by Carroll’s late Premier League and Fa Cup form for Liverpool and his brief showing at Euro 2012 for England.
AC Milan are looking at bringing in some younger players to the San Siro for the new season and according to the Metro, Berlusconi jnr has said;
“This is a new era for Milan. We will continue to get younger while maintaining the culture. Milan still has its superstars. As a future target I’d like Andy Carroll.
“I must admit that for his body build, and after seeing his header in the Euros, I would like to have Carroll at Milan,” he added, reports the Metro.
Berlusconi jnr is the president of the Italian TV company Mediaset that owns AC.

According to reports from Football Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio Sam Allardyce is lining up an ambitious move to bring 33-year-old Inter veteran Dejan Stankovic to Upton Park, despite the Serbian international recently pledging his future to the club amid a raft a high-profile potential departures from The Nerazzurri.
Stankovic is the latest eye-catching name to be linked with the Hammers after last week’s news that Big Sam was considering a move for Clarence Seedorf, who instead opted to sign for Botafogo in Brazil, as well as Alessandro Del Piero and yesterday’s link with Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku.
Inter are currently stream-lining their squad to make way for new, younger talent and to cut down what is a considerable wage bill. And now it seems Stankovic, who has spent nine seasons at Inter Milan, making over 300 appearances and winning an impressive five Serie A titles and a Champions...

West Ham United are preparing to make a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s veteran French defender William Gallas, according to The Sun.
Hammer boss Sam Allardyce, as he often did at Bolton, is keen to add some experience to his side and is often prone to a free transfer bargain for a once world class player. Gallas, a two time Premier League winner at Chelsea, is thought to be surplus to requirements at Spurs as they would prefer not to continue paying his high wages and he is likely to move on a free transfer.
Allardyce recently released 34-year-old Stoke defender Abdoualye Faye and is unlikely to make last season’s loan spell for 31-year-old Stoke defender Danny Collins a permanent one and is in the market for a new defender. He is also mulling over making an ambitious offer to Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf, 36, who may want to...
