The Senate subcommittee investigating the recent merger of rivals the PGA Tour and Liv Golf League has set its first hearing for next week, inviting two PGA Tour execs to testify.
PGA Tour COO Ron Price and board member Jimmy Dunne will testify before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations on July 11.
PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan has been on medical leave and was not on the two-person witness list released Monday.
The panel will probe the merger deal, reached June 6, citing its impact on the future of the sport as well its implications for Saudi Arabia’s influence in the U.S. Liv, which had lured several of the PGA Tour’s top players to its side as part of the bitter feud with the PGA, is backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

Ending two years of rancor and legal warfare, the PGA Tour has agreed to merge with Saudi-backed Liv Golf.
In a joint statement, the two organizations declared the stunning turn of events “a landmark agreement to unify the game of golf, on a global basis.” Technically, the pact that was announced is a framework for a deal, with a finalized version expected in the coming weeks.
The new spirit of comity represents a significant departure from the barbed exchanges between the parties in dueling antitrust lawsuits as well as players and fans on opposite sides of the split. The upstart Liv maintained that the well-entrenched PGA had engaged in anticompetitive practices by punishing its players, while PGA objected to Liv coming into its turf and poaching talent with hefty payouts.

In a move that practically no one in the sports or broadcasting worlds saw coming, it was on Tuesday that the PGA Tour and Liv Golf will merge in an effort to promote golf around the world. The two rival tours will also unite with Dp World Tour — the PGA’s European Tour — to form a new commercial entity to promote all of the brands in order to deliver “maximum excitement and competition among the game’s best players,” according to a press release issued by the PGA Tour.
While the three tours will continue to exist and operate independently, Liv’s parent company Public Investment Fund (Pif) will make a capital investment into the new commercial enterprise, whose name will be announced at a later date. Pif is run and funded by Saudi prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has been accused of crimes against humanity and the brutal murder of Suadi-American journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Dubai, Jan 28 (Ians) It was not the kind of a start Shubhankar Sharma was looking for as he began his first round of the weather-disrupted 2023 Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Due to start on Thursday afternoon, he finally got to tee off on Friday but after a promising start of 2-under through the first three holes, he finished 2-over 74 and was in danger of missing the cut.
He did get some respite with a birdie in the three holes of the second round he got to play before play was suspended due to fading light on Friday. Sharma is now 1-over through 21 holes at the Emirates Golf Club.
Richard Bland and Ian Poulter were tied at the top of the leader board reaching eight under par before the daylight ran out.
Angel Hidalgo was their nearest challenger on seven under, with Louis de Jager another shot further back alongside Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed,...

Dubai Desert Classic: Three players finish at 68 at weather-hit opening day, Shubhankar yet to start
Dubai, Jan 26 (Ians) Thomas Pieters was the man to catch at the top of the leader board when the first round of the weather-affected opening day of the Dubai Desert Classic was suspended due to fading light on Thursday. But at 5-under through 15 holes he still had three more to play.
India’s lone man in the field, Shubhankar Sharma, who was due to start, did not get to start and will begin play on Friday morning. He could have a long day with his second round also due.
England’s Daniel Gavins had sat alongside Pieters when the hooter sounded but opted to finish up at the 18th in near-darkness and surrendered a bogey to join the large group on four under.
Gavins and countrymen Oliver Wilson and Matthew Jordan signed for 68s to set the early clubhouse target, while last week’s winner Victor Perez, Tommy Fleetwood and...

Liv Golf player Patrick Reed is suing NBC’s Golf Channel and analyst Brandel Chamblee for 750 million in a defamation suit. The pro says the Golf Channel and Chamblee “have maliciously caused a hostile workplace environment for Mr. Reed, spilling over to his family.”
The suit, filed on Monday, claims that Reed has been “actively” targeted since he was 23 years old, but that things have come to a head this year, after he was removed as a member of the PGA Tour and signed with Liv Golf. Reed faced several accusations of cheating during his time on the tour, including in 2019, when he was given a two-stroke penalty for moving sand away from the ball while taking practice swings.
“Chamblee and NBC’s Golf Channel have conspired as joint tortfeasors for and with the PGA Tour, it’s executives and it’s Commissioner Jay Monahan, to engage in a pattern and practice of defaming Mr.

"To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time." The rebooted American Idol tipped the demo win ABC’s way on Sunday, while a Masters-goosed CBS took total viewers.
ABC’s singing competition scored its lowest Sunday showings yet in the demo and total viewers but still tied CBS’ 60 Minutes for the night’s top spot in the demo. In its first season airing on Sundays, Idol‘s most recent showing on the night more than doubled its two-hour slot, year to year, for ABC, by 157% in viewers, and 114% in demo.
Meanwhile, the Masters conclusion boosted not just CBS’ newsmag but the entire primetime slate. Most noticeable was Instinct (0.9, 8.20M), which spiked three-tenths in the demo and 1.6M viewrs compared twith previous week. CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles (0.9, 806M) and Madam Secretary (0.6, 6.25M) both ticked up a tenth in the 18-49 age bracket.

Morning Joe picked a slow Donald Trump Twitter morning to trot out Trump Twitter Bingo. Potus has so far confined his Twitter efforts to congratulating Patrick Reed on his Masters win – by way of plugging his Trump National Doral Gold Club –and complained about China-imposed tariffs on American cars.
“Congratulations to Patrick Reed on his great and courageous Masters win!” Trump tweeted. “When Patrick had his amazing win at Doral 5 years ago, people saw his great talent and a bright future ahead. Now he is the Masters Champion!
Trump also tweeted, “When a car is sent to the United States from China, there is a Tariff to be paid of 2 ½%. When a car is sent to China from the United States, there is a Tariff to be paid of 25%. Does that sound like free or fair trade. No, it sounds like Stupid Trade – going on for years!”

Great news for a CBS: a rising Masters finale, up 14 percent from 2017, assisted its Sunday lineup — doubling <em>60 Minutes</em>' score from the previous week to tie <em>American Idol</em>.
Final numbers for Patrick Reed's Augusta National victory won't arrive until later on Monday, but the highlight of the PGA calendar was the biggest thing going over the weekend with an overnight 8.7 rating among metered market households. That helped <em>60 Minutes</em>, which started on time, jump more than 100 percent to a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. The series also scored 10.8 million viewers,...

I'm sure a lot of you are already aware of this Star Wars-inspired film 5-25-77. The film comes from director Patrick Reed Johnson who has been working on the movie for well over a decade. This movie is a true love letter to Star Wars as it tells a coming-of-age drama story that centers on a teenage movie geek played by John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks), whose life is changed by George Lucas' classic sci-fi fantasy film. This is an autobiographical movie about the director's own experience of how Star Wars affected him.
Today we have a great new trailer for you to watch and it's also been announced that 5-25-77 will be released in theaters on 5-25-17. Seems like an appropriate release date! It's crazy to see that after all these years this movie is actually going to get released. It's just another...

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

Time flies, doesn’t it? It seems like just yesterday I was watching Animaniacs Live, interviewing folks about Turtles and cartoons, seeing the latest in geek fashions, hanging out with American Gods, and chatting with the Kings of Con at Sdcc, not to mention chillin’ at Nerd HQ. And now suddenly it’s September, and I’ve since attended both the UK Discworld Convention and Dragon Con! Convention season: it really never stops, does it?
Despite my busy schedule, I don’t want to miss sharing any of the fantastic adventures I’ve been having with you; so first, let’s rewind to San Diego and reminisce about the summer party-party-parties, because they are a staple of Sdcc and deserve to be featured. Every year, I try to line up at least a couple of parties each night, because, let’s be frank, I just love a good party. (I...

The fall festival rush is upon us. Locarno is currently ramping up. Venice has released their line-up and Thom Powers and the Toronto International Film Festival team have dropped a bomb with a previously unannounced new feature from powerhouse docu-provocateur Michael Moore. It is truly a miracle that the production of a film such as Moore’s upcoming Where To Invade Next (see still above) managed to go completely undetected by the filmmaking community until it was literally announced to world premiere at one of the largest film festivals in the world. Programmed as a one of the key films in the Special Presentations section at Tiff, the film sees Moore telling “the Pentagon to ‘stand down’ — he will do the invading for America from now on.” Also announced to premiere at Tiff was Avi Lewis’ This Changes Everything, which has slowly been rising up this list, as well as...

One of the more notable aspects of the Toronto International Film Festival, due to its location, has been its emphasis on Canadian cinema. The festival’s popularity and prominence among film fans around the world has led to Tiff becoming a key platform for Canadian films and Canadian filmmakers to showcase their talents, with the festival’s opening film often coming from a Canadian. The 2015 incarnation is no different in this regard, with Jean-Marc Vallée’s newest feature Demolition set to open the event, and filmmakers like Deepa Mehta, Atom Egoyan, Jon Cassar, and Paul Gross showcasing their newest films at the festival. The Festival organisers, however, have now revealed the other Canadian features that will be playing at the event, across a variety of programs. The list can be seen below.

Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Chavira busted for DUI
Chavira was arrested for DUI early this morning in Los Angeles ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ. The 39-year-old actor was pulled over for a routine traffic stop at around 2 a.m. -- when cops allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath.
Chavira was given field sobriety tests at the scene -- but they didn't go so well -- so cops arrested him on suspicion of DUI. Sources say Chavira refused to take a blood or breath test. Chavira was taken to a nearby jail -- where he was booked. He's currently being held on $25,000 bail.

This is part of collection of emailer interviews conducted prior to the festival - we would like to thank the filmmakers for their time and the hardworking publicists for making this possible.] Patrick Reed When did you first hear of Dr. James Orbinski's story, and why did you want to make it into a documentary?I first met James in Rwanda in 2004. Peter Raymont and I were there making a film about the 1994 Rwandan genocide and General Romeo Dallaire's return for the 10th anniversary commemoration.Like Dallaire, James had been based in Rwanda during the genocide, as Head of Mission for Msf; and like Dallaire, the experience of witnessing genocide while the outside world turned a blind eye understandably haunted him.Unlike Dallaire, though, Rwanda was just one of many humanitarian catastrophes that James had personally experienced: Somalia during the 1992 civil war and famine; Afghanistan; refugee crises in Zaire; Kosovo; among others. I was curious to know why he kept going back, what compelled him, and how he was able to deal with the fall-out without be consumed by either rage or despair.
