So many movies intended for the big screen are having to forgo it these days, it seems odd when something as apt for home viewing as “Half Brothers” makes the Covid-defying move of opening on 1,200-plus American screens. Those looking for undemanding entertainment may give it a passing grade, but or the collective viewing experience. Nor does writer-producer Eduardo Cisernos’ concept add much to culture-clash politics beyond contrivance and reinforced stereotypes. It’s a slick film that’s forgettable at best, annoyingly broad and unfunny at worst.
A 1994 prologue has engineer Flavio (Juan Pablo Espinosa) enjoying a close, playful relationship with only child Renato (Ian Inigo) in their native San Miguel de Allende. But a steep economic downturn forces dad to leave his wife (Bianca Marroquin) and son behind in order to seek work up north, along with many others. While he promises he’ll soon return, that promise is broken.

An emotional Michelle Williams praised FX and Fox 21 Television Studios, thanking them for their support and for “paying me equally” in her acceptance speech for her Emmy win for outstanding actress in a limited series or movie for Fosse/Verdon. This was the four-time Oscar-nominated actress’ first Emmy win.
Williams, who won the trophy for her starring role as Broadway dancer/choreographer/singer Gwen Verdon in FX’s Fosse/Verdon, urged pay equality for women, particularly women of color.
“When you put value into a person it empowers that person to get in touch with their own inherent value, and where do they put that value they put it into their work and so the next time that a woman, especially a woman of color because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her male white counterpart, tells you what she needs in order to do her job,...

Michelle Williams is dancing her way into another leading role with FX’s “Fosse/Verdon.”
At the New York premiere on Monday night, the actress told Variety it took more than dance lessons to get ready to play Broadway legend Gwen Verdon.
“It’s going to sound weird, but I had to start meditating. I had to become a bigger person in order to play her. I needed to expand my consciousness to be able to grasp her,” she said. “There was all kinds of stuff in terms of research and physical preparation and the reading and the watching and the listening and like this constant sort of studying, but I also had to grow my whole my mind.”
The four-time Oscar nominee’s pairing with co-star Sam Rockwell brings to television the story of trailblazing choreographer Bob Fosse and his creative collaborator wife.

The new FX miniseries Fosse/Verdon has all the makings for both awards success and theater geek nirvana: with executive producers from stage - Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail and Dear Evan Hansen's Steven Levenson - and screen - The Americans' Joel Fields - and starring Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams, the eight episodes begin airing April 9 and tell the story of Bob Fosse, one of the most acclaimed directors of all time, and his wife, Gwen Verdon, the terrific Tony Award-winning actress and dancer who often gets left out of the story.
This project hopes to rectify that. Speaking to journalists on Feb. 4 at the show's Television Critics Association press day in Pasadena, CA, the stars and creators elaborated on the plot and characters of Fosse/Verdon, which aims to do justice to the true story at its center.

The much-anticipated Manila premiere of Broadway's longest-running American musical, Chicago, razzle-dazzled audiences with its hard-hitting numbers All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, Razzle Dazzle, which speak of passion, treachery, murder, and glossed-over celebrity, on opening night. Leading the pack of an all-American cast of Broadway veterans is Bianca Marroquin who rocked Solaire Resort and Casino's The Theatre with her multi-faceted portrayal of accused murderess Roxie Hart. The strong ensemble, while writhing, gyrating, and exploding to John Kander's music, provided the backdrop to Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse's dark satirical commentary of the 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago. When the audience rose to a standing ovation at the end of the show, it was palpable that even in these modern days, it is impossible to convict good looking murderesses.
