The 2024 Barcelona Open has received a major boost, with local hero Carlos Alcaraz set to return to the Atp 500 event this year.
The tournament will feel like a long time away for the Spaniard. Alcaraz's next matches are exhibitions at the Australian Open, which includes a repeat of the 2022 US Open final with Casper Ruud.
However, the clay-court season is undoubtedly one that Alcaraz looks forward to every year. It is the surface that he grew up on, and how comfortable he feels on the dirt is clear for everyone to see.
Alcaraz is yet to translate that clay-court prowess into a triumph at the French Open. However, most in the tennis world agree it is only a matter of time before that changes. Some argue that he would have beaten Novak Djokovic in last year's semifinal, had cramp not set in.
The Barcelona Open is a tournament where Alcaraz has been successful.

After playing some smashing tennis in Asia, Jannik Sinner will postpone his tennis return to Europe as he withdrew from the 2023 European Open in Antwerp.
Jannik Sinner has been utterly amazing in Asia, though the run that he produced didn't come easy to him. At the start of his China Open campaign, Sinner ran into some problems against Dan Evans, seemingly injuring his ankle that required a medical timeout.
He would finish the match and keep going; however, a few matches later, Sinner threw up on the court but again kept going . His run would include wins over Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final and then a huge win over Daniil Medvedev in the final to win the event .
It was significant in many ways as it continued his spectacular season and allowed him to win 50 matches in a year for the first time in his career. By doing that, he...

Carlos Alcaraz can eclipse Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Atp Race, which determines the player who will finish as the year-end No. 1 in 2023.
Currently, Djokovic sits at the top of the pile after overtaking Alcaraz at the US Open. Not only did Djokovic reclaim the Atp No. 1 ranking, but he would also dethrone the Spaniard in the Atp Race, which factors points earned during the course of the season.
But Djokovic elected to give this year's Asian swing amiss , and that will come at a cost, as Alcaraz has a clear path to the top spot in the race. The 20-year-old added 180 points from his semifinal run at the China Open last week, cutting Djokovic's lead to 590 points.
What Alcaraz needs to do to overtake Djokovic in Shanghai:

British Next Gen star Jack Draper revisited his recent boozy ride with Andy Murray that left the former World No. 1 seething in the driver's seat.
Recently, Murray shared his side of the story of a viral video he posted on Instagram in which the duo shared a car ride back home after guiding Great Britain into the Davis Cup Final 8. Murray and Draper scored wins in their singles rubbers.
But it was up to Dan Evans and Neal Skupski to seal their spot in Malaga by winning the decisive doubles match against France in dramatic circumstances, saving four match points in front of a packed house inside Ao Arena in Manchester.
And the evening got doozy for Murray who was unimpressed by Draper's singing skills. The 21-year-old could be seen chugging a can of beer while performing his own rendition of the music playing inside the car.

In his fourth-round match, top seed Carlos Alcaraz was spotted with a heavy tape on his left thigh for the first time at this US Open .
Although Alcaraz barely showed any discomfort or conspicuous physical issues during his third-round win against British player Dan Evans, he did receive some pills during the match prompting a debate on social media that he could be hampered physically.
Alcaraz was not questioned about it during his post-match press conference. On Sunday, the Spaniard skipped training as he could not be seen near the US Open site, and instead utilized his off-day for sightseeing in New York with his family.
Alcaraz chose to combat Italy's World No. 61 Matteo Arnaldi in Monday's fourth-round match prioritizing rest over the practice. But on arrival to the court on Monday, Alcaraz quickly garnered the attention of those watching the match on TV, as he was already taped up...

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz decided to take a day off from practice ahead of his fourth-round clash against Matteo Arnaldi at the US Open .
The Spaniard was scheduled to be on the site of the US Open practice courts on Sunday, almost 24 hours since he was stretched to four sets by former British No. 1 Dan Evans in the third round. Instead, Alcaraz elected not to train in order to give his body adequate rest time after navigating the first week as reported by Marca.
It looks like Alcaraz might have been on a leisure excursion on Sunday after sharing a photo on his Instagram stories of the seafront during sunrise. It's not an uncommon practice for the Spaniard to skip training during his day off, having done so to great effect before the Wimbledon final.

Nottingham (England), June 10 (Ians) British tennis star Andy Murray has accepted a wildcard to play in the Nottingham Open next week to continue his grass-court preparations for Wimbledon.
The three-time Major champion has skipped the French Open this year to concentrate on his preparations for the grasscourt season.
According to a BBC report, Murray has opted to play in Nottingham instead of Stuttgart to cut down on travel but also because the surface is similar to both Queen’s and Wimbledon.
“Andy Murray is set to star at the Rothesay Open Nottingham this week after receiving a wild card into the main draw. The former No.1 heads to Nottingham in strong form on the grass, having already made the semifinals at the Lexus Surbiton Trophy,” said Lawn Tennis Association (Lta) in a statement.
Another British player and World No.25 Dan Evans also accepted a wildcard to the Challenger event as...

Andy Murray will be playing at the Queen's Club event that he won in the past alongside a big number of native British players.
We will see a very strong Queen's Club event later this year unless the Lta elects to ban Russian and Belarusian players once more which could see them stripped of all of their events sending this event into early retirement.
The Cinch Championships will host at least 10 British players across all competitions and former champion Murray will be among them. The Brit missed the event last year opting to play in Stuttgart which was a good event for him but it also saw him injuring himself preventing him to play in Queen's the following week.
Besides Murray, we'll also see other Union Jack defenders such as 2021 finalist Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Jack Draper. Neal Skupski, Joe Salisbury, Lloyd Galsspool and Jamie Murray will play doubles.
