The years shall run like rabbits… -W.H. Auden From the start, before Richard Linklater conducted his grand experiment on the nature of time - Boyhood - he was out to capture the great container of all experience: time - good times / bad times, we’ve all had our fill. Sometimes, time passes without a shred of significant activity. Other moments contain a heart full of emotion that can make time feel as though it’s stopped. Some things last a long time. Some things last a lifetime… as Austin’s own Daniel Johnston once said. A moment can feel like nothing and everything and it's one of life’s great tragedies that even the most significant times of our lives will too pass and fade as more time...

Author: The Jt LeRoy Story relives the literary hoax of the early aughts, the truly weird and out of control tale of Jt LeRoy. An allegedly gender-fluid HIV positive son of a West Virginia truck stop hooker, he rose to the heights of indie stardom befriending the likes of Courtney Love, Shirley Manson, Lou Reed, Michael Pitt, Billy Corgan and filmmakers Gus Van Saint and Asia Argento (both would “adapt” works by LeRoy). An anonymous experiment originally conducted by Laura Albert, the myth grows out of control when she hires Savannah Knoop, her sister-in-law, as an avatar. The real Laura Albert had been described by media accounts as a Brooklyn housewife, but here director Jeff Feuerzeig dives deeper.
A sweeping first-hand account of the bizarre saga as told by Albert, Author: The Jt LeRoy Story is wildly entertaining and truly stranger than fiction, even perhaps the fiction Albert wrote as LeRoy.

Daniel Johnston has already been the subject of one great music documentary, 2005's The Devil and Daniel Johnston, but a mind as deeply complex as his is deserving of another. Two years ago, his longtime fans Lana Del Rey and Mac Miller donated to Gabriel Sunday's crowdfunded short film on the lo-fi icon, earning executive producer credit. Hi, How Are You Daniel Johnston? will star Johnston in an imagined conversation with his younger self from 1983, when he was recording his seminal album Hi, How Are You, with the singer-actress Soko also appearing as his long-lost love, Laurie. Lana soundtracks the film's first trailer (as she very often does), with a stirring cover of Johnston's devastating "Some Things Last a Long Time" from 1990. A snippet of her cover comes in around the trailer's 1-minute mark, and you can watch the short film on Vimeo on November 11.

If Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You in the End” is the dominant track throughout a film, chances are the world depicted therein will be an insular one. Writer-director Sebastián Silva’s “Nasty Baby” follows three New Yorkers who are over-the-moon about their friendship and singularly focused on the woman (Kristen Wiig) becoming a surrogate for her gay-couple BFFs (Silva and TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe). That is, when they’re not covering up a murder, after which their cooler-than-thou hipness allows them to go roller-skating. If that summary sounds like it’s a mash-up of two different movies,...

"Guardians of the Galaxy"
Chris Pratt stars as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, an outlaw who stumbles upon a special orb that it seems everyone in the galaxy is after. He inadvertently teams up with a few other alien misfits (Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket) to save the world from some super bad dudes. The Blu-ray looks great, and it's full of cool little details, like the graphics that pop up when you pause the movie, as well as the regular old featurettes, commentaries, and so on. And, if you think the cast has amazing chemistry in the movie, just wait until you watch them go Unscripted.

Kurt Cobain created a mixtape in the late 80s that’s been rediscovered on the Internet with fans stating that it gives a deeper look into the Nirvana frontman’s psyche.
Kurt Cobain 'Montage Of Heck'
Cobain's "Montage of Heck" has found some new life online over the past few days. It contains snippets from his personal record collection and the radio, band demos that wound up on Nirvana albums as well as sounds Cobain recorded and/or created – including urinating into a toilet and the toilet's flush. It also includes bits of dialogue from vintage TV shows and movies, as well as from conversations with his friends.
There's an 8-minute mono version of the mixtape, as well as a 36-minute full-length version.

Frank is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart. Frank is a comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon, who discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins a band of eccentric pop musicians led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank and his terrifying sidekick, Clara. Frank’s uniqueness lies in the fact that he makes music purely for the joy of creating…and because he wears a giant fake head. After a rocky start, Jon ingratiates himself with the band members, and they retreat to a cabin in the woods to record an album. It's safe to say that I won't see anything else like "Frank" this year, because I don't think there's a chance anyone's going to make anything else like "Frank" this year. Written by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, who previously collaborated on the adaptation of Ronson's book "The Men Who Stared At Goats," this is the story of an ambitious young musician named Jon (Domhnall Gleeson) who is struggling to define his own voice as a songwriter. He crosses paths with Soronprfbs, a very strange band as he watches their keyboardist try to drown himself, and thanks to that meltdown, Jon is given a chance to play with them. What he doesn't realize until he gets to the run-through is that their lead singer, Frank (Michael Fassbender), performs wearing a giant sculpted head. More than that, though, he wears it everywhere, all the time. No one in the band says...

The droll wit and formal daring of Frank start with the casting. Michael Fassbender has been an X-Man, a gladiator (300), a sex addict (Shame) and an Oscar nominee (12 Years a Slave). Also a hottie, whose posters get drooled over on dorm walls. So why cast Fassbender as a cult-music icon in the title role in Frank and then ask the swoony bugger to cover his head in plastic for 99 percent of the movie?
Don't ask. I'll tell. Because the role is the kind of risk the reliably ballsy Fassbender likes to take.

Are some so-called "diamonds in the rough" so special they can only exist on the fringes? When a rare species enters the ecosystem of the mainstream, does its unique needs break down in a polluted environment? These are some of the ideas expressed in “Frank,” an off-the-wall and terrific paean to misfits and freaks, their dreams and visions. In a quaint English town, the naïve, ginger-haired dreamer Jon (Domhnall Gleeson) lives a placid but utterly charmless life. A cubicle drone, he tweets out utterly banal thoughts (“Panini with cheese and ham #livingthedream”), but Jon’s waking life takes a backseat to the songs he’s constantly composing in his head. A wannabe musician, Jon has no outlet for his songs. Right on cue, Jon’s universe is transformed when he meets a strange, dysfunctional psych-rock outsider band (think a Shaggs-y version of the Velvet Underground meets Captain Beefheart and Daniel Johnston...

In a funny yet poignant film, Michael Fassbender's turn as cult character Frank Sidebottom proves liberating rather than limiting
If you've ever wondered what would happen if you transplanted the method of Captain Beefheart and the madness of Daniel Johnston into the gigantic papier-mache head of Frank Sidebottom (and frankly, who hasn't?) then this surreally comic – and yet poignant – oddity has the answers. Investing the frame of Chris Sievey's madcap creation with the tortured soul of avant garde rock, Frank manages to get beneath the mask and the skin of its eponymous antihero in a manner that bridges the gap between absurdist laughter and all-too-tender tears. The result is something weird, wonderful, and utterly unique – a cracked classic which takes its place alongside the Barbie-doll animation Superstar and the conjoined twins mockumentary Brothers of the Head in the pantheon of genuinely unexpected pop movies.

“There’ something wrong with Frank;” the line that perfectly summarises Michael Fassbender’s character in this obscure film of the same name. After a cheerful reception at this year’s Sundance and SXSW festivals, Lenny Abrahamson’s offbeat interpretation of one of pop music’s more bizarre performers reaches cinemas this May.
What began as a first hand testament to Frank Sidebottom who Jon Ronson, now an established author, briefly played with in the 80s, has grown into a fictional account of an unhinged but naturally brilliant musician, inspired partly by the lives of Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.
Ronson, who wrote The Men Who Stare at Goats, pairs up with previous collaborator Peter Straughan (Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy) to craft a screenplay told from the perspective of Jon, a well intentioned but creatively challenged musician. Based loosely on real events, events escalate after a well timed but unfortunate coincidence...

While the thought of watching an entire Michael Fassbender movie without catching the briefest glimpse of those twinkly Fasspeepers might bring one or two people out in a rash, they’ll need to give Frank a pass. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a Frank Sidebottom-inspired film if he swanned around without that famous papier-mâché head on. Here’s a new poster for the film foregrounding the big-bonced comedy warlock to set him in context. Click on the image for a closer look. The story, from The Men Who Stare At Goats’ Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, finds Domhnall Gleeson as Jon, who joins a band led by the eccentric Frank (Fassbender). Loosely based on comedian and musician Chris Sievey (with influences from Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart), Frank tells the story of a group who want to make some truly new music, and go about it in very strange ways.

A really fun trailer has been released for Michael Fassbender's very odd new movie Frank. What's interesting about this is Fassbender is wearing a giant head through the whole movie. Michael Fassbender plays a musical genius who can’t seem to face life “face on” in the film Frank.

If you were intrigued by the first clip from askew comedy Frank, which emerged online in January, then here comes the trailer to give you more a sense of the film as a whole. Even if it doesn’t try to explain everything…The story, from The Men Who Stare At Goats’ Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, finds Domhnall Gleeson as Jon, who joins a band led by the eccentric Frank (Michael Fassbender). Loosely based on comedian and musician Chris Sievey (with influences from Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart), Frank tells the story of a group who want to make some truly new music, and go about it in very strange ways. Oh, and there’s the fact that Frank himself refuses to ever take his giant papier-mâché head off. When the group is offered a gig at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, a road trip begins that starts...

Frank Sidebottom was possibly the strangest pop star in history. Jon Ronson, who played in his band, and has co-written a film inspired by the character starring Michael Fassbender, remembers Frank's creator Chris Sievey as being even more eccentric than his papier-mache alter ego
In 1987 I was 20 and the student union entertainments officer for the Polytechnic of Central London. One day I was sitting in the office when the telephone rang. I picked it up.
"So Frank's playing tonight and our keyboard player can't make it and so we're going to have to cancel unless you know any keyboard players," said a frantic voice.
I cleared my throat. "I play keyboards," I said.
"Well you're in!" the man shouted.
"But I don't know any of your songs," I said.
"Wait a minute," the man said.
I heard muffled voices. He came back to the phone. "Can you play C, F and G?...

Singer gets "signed Smurf ukulele" in return for her pledge to the Kickstarter fundraiser for Hi, How Are You short film
Lana Del Rey and rapper Mac Miller are among the financiers for a new film starring Daniel Johnston. Both musicians have contributed money to Hi, How Are You, a short film looking back on Johnston's "most prolific and maddening era".
Earlier this month, director Gabriel Sunday launched a Kickstarter fundraiser for the narrative short that he begun shooting at this year's Open Borders arts festival. In the film, Johnston himself reflects on the making of his seminal 1983 album. "But as Daniel tells his stories, the rabbit hole gets deeper and deeper and time and reality begin to bend," Sunday said in a promo video. "What starts out as this interview spills into a world where Daniel's art and characters and music come to life."

Director Gabriel Sunday is promising psychedelic good times with his latest short film about troubled indie-music icon Daniel Johnston. The work plays like a documentary, but things transform when Johnston’s art, music and other quirks are used to create his internal world — and if you’ve listened to his music, then you know that’s an emotionally complex experience. The footage was captured during the Open Borders Festival in California, inside an abandoned bookstore, shot in just a few days. The soundtrack boasts songs from Tom Waits, Beck, Bright Eyes, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, Johnny Depp and Gibby Haynes, Pearl Jam, the Flaming Lips and more. The filmmakers are currently campaigning on Kickstarter to gather funds for the postproduction...

The final 12 on this year's X Factor performed live for the first time last night, with some acts faring better than others. Sam Bailey gave 'The Power of Love' plenty of oomph, while Sam Callahan had to make do with compliments about being so gosh-darn handsome after an awkward 'Summer of '69' cover.
But it was Shelley Smith who had the worst night as she fell victim to the first 'Flash Vote' of the series. Will Sharon Osbourne's mission to finally win the show be off to a rocky start, or will her Overs remain intact after lines close and the judges vote?

Wayne Coyne might as well be a modern day Renaissance man. The Flaming Lips frontman has tackled music, visual art, film and theater, spreading his own brand of weird to any realm that will take him. Psychedelic, absurd and often times hair-raising, the various projects all seem to fit nicely into the hallucinatory experience that has become the Lips.
So it shouldn't be surprising that Coyne has decided to dip his toes into the world of comics with his very Nsfw graphic creation, "The Sun is Sick." Centering on an intergalactic plot line involving a dying star, a blind princess heroine and a mysterious eyeball baby, the work is everything you'd expect from the experimental rock god. Guts, nudity, a penchant for the color pink and all.

History has shown us that not every musical hit is unique to the artist. Take Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." When that catchy tune fell into the hands of the late Whitney Houston, the powerful ballad became an instant success, but many of the people caught humming the melody had no idea a blonde bombshell was the mastermind behind the hit.
Houston's rendition is just one a number of cover songs that eventually became more famous than the originals. We've compiled a list of some of these beloved gems below; let us know which ones surprised you in the comments.
1. "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor (original by Prince/The Family)
O'Connor's breathy song was actually written by "Purple Rain" genius Prince for one of his side projects, The Family. But the Irish songstress was the one whose tears actually brought it to the general public.

Here's our first hilariously crazy look at Michael Fassbender in a comedy called Frank. We also get a look at Domhnall Gleeson and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the film. The movie was directed by Lenny Abrahamson from a script written by The Men Who Stare at Goats author Jon Ronson and Peter Straughn. Here's the synopsis...
Frank is a comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon (Gleeson), who discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins a band of eccentric pop musicians led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Fassbender) and his terrifying sidekick Clara (Gyllenhaal).
Frank is based on the memoir by Jon Ronson and is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.

Early last fall, we learned that Michael Fassbender would team up with Domhnall Gleeson (son of Brendan Gleeson) for director Lenny Abrahamson's rock band comedy Frank. Just recently Maggie Gyllenhaal was listed to join that cast that also includes rising star Scoot McNairy, and now a first look photo from the film has emerged featuring her with Gleeson and an obscured Fassbender. The story follows a young wannabe musician (Gleeson), who discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins a band of eccentric musicians led by the mysterious Frank (Fassbender) and his sidekick Clara (Gyllenhaal). Trailing by a bicep in the world’s sexiest man stakes (Channing Tatum, all rights reserved), Michael Fassbender is striking back in just the way you’d expect... by sticking a Frank Sidebottom-like head on and travelling into the desert. Your move, Gosling.Fassbender, an actor firmly set on the path less travelled, is Frank, mysterious leader of an indie band that will be doing likewise in Jon ‘The Man Who Stare At Goats’ Ronson’s story. Domhnall Gleeson joins him and his crazed band member Maggie Gyllenhaal in a tour that, on the basis of this picture alone, looks like it will combine the very best of Almost Famous and a heavy dose of peyote. This first look comes courtesy of UK distributors Artificial Eye. Fassbender’s Frank character was based by Ronson on the man behind Sidebottom, comedian and musician Chris Sievey, and cult musical heroes Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.
